PCR STAFF SPOTLIGHT Meet Joan Morris

For nearly seven years, Joan Morris has shared her lifelong love of music with PCR members while working at our NoteAbles and Chorus programs. “I’ve always been involved in singing and instrumental music,” mentioned Joan, “and, every day, I’m reminded by the members of how much joy music can bring to daily life.” She credits PCR contractor and music therapist Amy Gardiner for getting her started with PCR, and the helpfulness of the PCR staff, members and caregivers for making her time at PCR a truly rewarding experience.

Joan also works with children with developmental differences at the Katherine Thomas School in Rockville. She lives in Rockville with her husband, Patrick; she has two grown children and two stepchildren. In her leisure time, Joan enjoys traveling, biking, hiking, baking, reading and going to movies. PCR appreciates Joan’s great dedication and care for PCR’s members, and is delighted to honor her with the 2017 Outstanding PCR Staff Member Award.

March Is National Developmental Disabilities Awareness Month

To raise awareness about the importance of including people with developmental differences in all aspects of community life, and about the barriers still sometimes faced in connecting to their communities, the National Association of Councils on Developmental Disabilities, the Association of University Centers on Disabilities and the National Disability Rights Network have partnered to launch a social media campaign throughout the month of March. For more information, please visit www.nacdd.org.

PCR Is a United Way Member Nonprofit PCR has been accepted as a United Way of the National Capital Area nonprofit for the 2017-2018 campaign year. As a member, PCR is included in hundreds of workplace campaigns in the DC area, and is eligible to apply for targeted grants to help fund our award-winning programs.

If you would like to designate PCR for your contributions, PCR’s four-digit designation number is 8538. Please note that the Combined Federal Campaign (CFC) assigns a different five-digit designation code, which is 95292 for PCR. Thank you for contributing to PCR through the United Way campaign!

March 2017 Edition

PCR’s Annual Beach Party was held at the Connelly School of the Holy Child on February 4th. This year’s event honored the memory of Father Donald Worch, a PCR board member and supporter, and was sponsored by the generosity of a PCR donor. Nearly 400 PCR members came in from the winter’s cold to enjoy volleyball, arts and crafts, dancing, music, and snacks at this fun event. Thank you to the PCR staff and all of the Connelly School of the Holy Child student volunteers and staff who helped make this year’s Beach Party so very special. To see more photos, please visit www.pcr-inc.org.
