July 2017

Dear Parents,

Welcome to second grade! My name is Kristina Stewart and I will have the pleasure of

working with you and your child this school year. The growth that will occur in your child this

year will be spectacular! I look forward to working together as a team to make this school year

a very exciting and memorable one for your child.

This is my first year at StoneBridge School, transitioning from teaching eight years in

the public school setting. I began my teaching career in my hometown of Smithfield, VA for five

years in the first and second grades. I then continued my career for the next three years in

third grade with Virginia Beach City Public Schools. I currently hold a state of Virginia teaching

license, with a preK-6 endorsement. In 2009, I received a B.S. from Longwood University. In

2016, I received a M.Ed. in Educational Leadership from Regent University. During my graduate

studies, I completed a week-long internship with StoneBridge School and that experience is

what led me to be here today!

My husband, Adam and I reside in the Deep Creek community of Chesapeake with our

rescue pup, Milton (a Chihuahua/Terrier mix). We recently celebrated five years of marriage

together on June 23!

The primary principle we will be studying this year in second grade is the internaliza-

tion of Christian self-government. Our studies from the Bible and key individuals will focus on

this significant character trait. In reading class, we will be using the Bible as our primary reader.

Second grade is an important year for developing reading comprehension and oral reading flu-

ency. It will be a wonderful journey!

At StoneBridge Lower School, homework nights are Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday.

The assignments will be posted on RenWeb weekly. Please check your child’s homework night-

ly and initial it when the work is completed. If your child is unable to complete a homework

assignment due to a legitimate reason such as an illness, please write a note of explanation and

send it in the following day.

Our schedule will include a mid-morning snack each day. I strongly encourage that

students bring a nutritious snack from home, such as fruit, cheese, yogurt, pretzels, etc. You

may also send fruit juice or water. Soft drinks are not allowed during the school day. Please

send all drinks in child-safe containers. Glass bottles or glass-lined thermos containers are not

permitted due to safety concerns.

The student supply list is included. If you have any questions, please email me at my

email address listed below. New students will need to bring all supplies to the “New Student

Orientation” on Tuesday, August 22nd at 9:00- 10:00 a.m. Returning students can bring their

supplies to the “Meet & Greet” from 1:00-2:00 p.m. the same day. Our first day of school

begins with a half day on Thursday, August 24th.

I know He has prepared for us an exciting year full of remarkable milestones! I look

forward to sharing it with you!

Sincerely,

Kristina Stewart
