COMMUNITY INFORMATION:

http://www.hellobc.com/prince-george.aspx

Prince George is the largest city in Northern British Columbia, and it is located centrally in the

provinces. Here you will find the amenities of a larger city along with instant access to picturesque

wilderness and outdoor activities, including hiking, fishing, and golf and camping.

Prince George is situated where the Nechako River joins the Fraser River near the center of British

Columbia. The north-south Highway 97 and the east-west Highway 16 intersect at Prince George. The

City is also the junction of the British Columbia and Canadian National Railways.

Variety is the spice of life in this city. Take in any number of theatre or musical performances, attend a

local festival, learn about the city’s history or visit its heritage sites, or take in any number of local

attractions.

Dining and accommodation options are diverse in Prince George. And when entering the city, be sure

to wave at “Mr. PG” – a whimsical 8.2m/27ft tall statue, who stands at the junction of Highways 97

and 16, waving his flag.

OUR FIRST NATIONS HISTORY:

http://www.tourismpg.com/first-nations

Before Europeans arrived, the Carrier Nation lived in this

area. The local band was known as Lheidli T’enneh, and

they lived at the junction of the Fraser and Nechako Rivers.

The translation of the word Lheidli means "where the two

rivers flow together" and T'enneh means "the People".

Eventually, the Grand Trunk Pacific purchased the

traditional land from the First Nations, who were then

moved to a reserve at Shelley.

The Lheidli T'enneh covers a vast traditional territory, stretching over an area of 4.3

million hectares, from the impressive Rocky Mountains to the beautiful interior plateau.

The Lheidli T'enneh community occupies four Indian Reserves totalling approximately 675 hectares

within and adjacent to the City of Prince George. By managing resources in a sustainable manner and

seeking new economic opportunities, this First Nations community is keen to expand their participation

on the wider global economy.
