PREDICTIONS

2. There are 162 games during the regular season, Andre Ethier hits 8 home runs after playing the first 50 games of the season. If he keeps up this pace, how many home runs do you predict he will hit during the entire season?

3. Three quarters of the way through the season, Joc Pederson has 15 home runs. At this rate, how many home runs did he hit per quarter? How many will he finish

1. The average length of a baseball game is about 3 hours. What is the average length of an inning in a regular 9-inning game? Using that value, what is your prediction for the length of a game that lasts 12 innings?

4. Yasmani Grandal’s goal was to have a .300 batting average at the end of the season. At the All-Star break (halfway through the season), he has 85 hits in 288 at bats. If he continues at this pace, will he reach his goal? (Hint: batting average is found by dividing hits by at bats.)

5. On average, a starting pitcher pitches once every 5 games. If the team plays 162 games and Kenta Maeda wins half of his starts, how many wins will he have at the end of the season?

6. Adrian Gonzalez’s goal is to have 200 hits by the end of the season. After the first quarter of the season, he has 47 hits. Is he on pace to reach his goal? If not, how many hits does he need to hit in each of the 3 remaining quarters of the season?

7. Clayton Kershaw pitches on average 98 pitches per game. If he averages 7 innings per appearance, how many pitches does he average per inning? If he pitches a full game (9 innings) how many pitches would he throw?

8. If it takes Corey Seager about 4 seconds to run from home to first base, how long would it take him to run the bases if he hits a triple? If in one game, Puig gets two singles, a double and a triple, how much time would he spend running the bases?
