Talk about it: Tell people about it and you will receive support. 6. Reward Yourself: Don’t get carried away by treang yourself to an enre box of chocolates, but treat yourself. 7. Track your Progress: Short term goals are easier to achieve. Write down your progress to keep you movated. 8. Don’t beat yourself up: We all fall down, just be sure to get back up and brush yourself off. 9. I have roughly ten years of professional experience in an administrave capacity. I have worked as a customer service representave, work force manager, supervisor and now a Secon Chief over the Commercial and Residenal Connects secon. Currently, I oversee the daily operaon and personnel for the Commercial/Residenal connect group. Tell me about a typical day at the office, what is your role at UCS. My role involves extensive management responsibly and staying organized is not an opon. I start each day planning and organizing work demands for our group. Communicang with my team is a must to organize and priorize tasks. I dedicate me, supporng and monitor staff performance. But as always, a poron of my day goes to handling escalated cases and trouble - shoong unusual issues. On top of these responsibilies, there are always planned acvies such as staff meengs and coaching sessions. What would people never guess you do in your role? I spend me reviewing and analyzing Texas property and Real Estate laws and/or speaking with the City Legal Department. It’s not unusual to request clarificaon on a Deed or Commercial applicaon. What do you like most about your posion? The fulfilling emoon of being able to lead people. Having the opportunity to develop and empower employees to meet and exceed customer expectaons and achieve the organizaonal objecves with the available resources. What is your favorite part about working with UCS/City of Houston? That there is never a dull moment, I learn something new every day What do you find most challenging at UCS? We are so busy all the me and somemes I forget or miss opportunies to connect with people at personal level. Before working here, what was the most unusual or interesng job you’ve ever had. When I was younger I worked for a college newspaper as a field journalist. It was a fast pace and entertaining experience. I didn’t want to leave without leng you know how lucky I feel to have had the opportunity to work side- by-side with you. I set five priories for my administraon: public safety, infrastructure, Jobs and sustainable development, fiscal responsibility, quality of life. There is not a single problem or issue related to these five priories that has come before us that isn’t beer now than it was six years ago. Whether it was holding the line on crime and spending, rebuilding our infrastructure and adding thousands of jobs or bringing fresh fruits and vegetables to food deserts, improving city employee health and restoring our parks, we have truly done great things together. Personally, I am proudest of our work to end chronic homelessness, make Houston more sustainable, shore up wa- ter and sewer department finances, implement Rebuild Houston and make Bayou Greenways a reality. Public Service is a calling. Because we work for this wonderful, amazing city, we need to bring our “A” game every day. By and large, city employ- ees provide exemplary service day aſter day aſter day. Although this oſten goes unnoced by the public, I want you to know that I recognize how hard you have worked over the last six years. I’ve tried to demonstrate appreci- aon for this hard work through pay raises, investment in leadership train- ing and by encouraging an overall posive work environment. I love this city and want it to be the best place in which to live, work and raise a family. As I prepare to hand over the reins to my successor, I am sasfied that with your help we’ve been able to do all that we can to meet that goal. The city is truly in a good place for the future. Of course, the New Year and the new ad- ministraon will bring new challenges. I know you will tackle them with the same dedicaon and support you have exhibited during my tenure.
