Otterbein University’s Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Convocation Committee is pleased to announce the 6th annual MLK Multimedia, Essay & Arts Contest. The contest allows Central Ohio high school students (grades 9-12) to showcase their talents through art (drawing, photography, sculpture, etc.), essay or poetry, or multimedia (a song or dance for example). This years theme is Network of Mutuality. From a Birmingham jail King wrote, “In a real sense all life is inter-related. All men are caught in an inescapable network of mutuality, tied in a single garment of destiny. Whatever affects one directly, affects all indirectly. I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be, and you can never be what you ought to be until I am what I ought to be… This is the inter-related structure of reality.” Based on the above quote, students have two options in which to display creativity: #1 As you read Dr. Kings words above, how do you see or envision a “network of mutuality” in today’s society? #2 In your opinion, what leaders live/lived up to what they “ought to be” causing a ripple effect that positively impacted the lives of others? Students must submit a multimedia presentation, essay/poem, or work of art that symbolizes and represents either question above. Prizes will be awarded to the top entry per category or the top three entries if all categories are not represented. See guidelines for rules and regulations. The contest allows Central Ohio high school students (grades 9-12) to showcase their talents through art (drawing, photography, sculpture, etc.), essay or poetry, or multimedia (a song or dance for example).

This years theme is Network of Mutuality. From a Birmingham jail King wrote, “In a real sense all life is inter-related. mutuality” in today’s society?

#2 In your opinion, what leaders live/lived up to what they “ought to be” causing a

ripple effect that positively impacted the lives of others? Students must submit a multimedia presentation, essay/poem, or work of art that symbolizes and represents either question above. Prizes will be awarded to the top entry per category or the top three entries if all categories are not represented. See guidelines for rules and regulations.
