2016 ACCOMPLISHMENT REPORT

“CNSC in 2016: Perseverance amidst Challenges”

SUMMARY

This report focus on the four mandated functions of the college along Instruction, Research, Extension and Administration while highlighting significant efforts on Infrastructure Developments, significant increase in relevant research outputs and sustained extension programs.

DETAILS OF ACCOMPLISHMENTS

A. On Instruction

A.1. Enrolment

Relative to AY 2016-2017, CNSC had a decline of about 20.72% in its undergraduate

or baccalaureate enrolment in First Semester, AY 2016-2017, as shown in Figure 1. It

decreased from 7,634 to 6052.This is due to the implementation of the K-12 in the Basic

Education curriculum. On the other hand, for the advanced education, the enrolment

increased by 46.91% from 81 to 119, First Sem AY 2015-16.

Figure 2. Comparison of graduation data for AY 2015-2016 and AY 2016-17.

A.2. Graduation

The number of graduates for the undergraduate programs for AY 2015-2016

decreased by 4.06% when compared to that of AY 2015-2016 from 1379 to 1323.

Meanwhile, the number of graduates in the advanced education decreased by 5%, from 20

to 19

A.3. On PRC Licensure Examinations

For 2016, CNSC has maintained its remarkable performance in PRC-administered

licensure and professional examinations, across various disciplines such as accountancy,

engineering, and teachers’ education. Comparing the CNSC passing percentage to that of

the National Passing percentage, it can be summarized that the over-all performance of

CNSC exceeded that of the National, by approximately 6%. Figure 3 shows the performance

in each licensure exam compared with the national passing percentage. This feat was even

highlighted by a 100% passing rate in electrical engineering and mechanical engineering

board examinations. It is noteworthy, however, that for Fisheries and Agriculture programs of

CNSC, the passing rate was lower than that of the national rate. Hence, CNSC shall initiate

actions to improve performance in these areas of discipline.

A.4. On Program Accreditation

The accreditation of its curricular programs was one of the strategic priorities of

CNSC in 2016 as indicated in its aggressive efforts to AACCUP accreditation. Comparing

with last year’s level of accreditation, many of the undergraduate programs were visited by

AACCUP resulting to a rapid increase in the number of programs with higher accreditation

level. From 37% or (10 out of 27 programs) accredited Level 1 and 48% (13 out of 27

programs) accredited Level 2 in 2015 to a remaining 30% or (8 out 27 programs) accredited

level 1 and an increased Level 2 accredited programs of 63% or (17 out of 27 programs)

accredited Level 2. Remarkably a 100% accomplishement rate since all of it 27 out 27

programs are accredited at least Level 1.

On the other hand, the academic programs in the CNSC Graduate School was

improved with the year 2016. However, it is to be noted that the Master’s in Business

Administration program was finally subjected to preliminary visit by AACCUP in 2015,

making it ready for higher level accreditation in the coming years. Figure 5 completely shows

this accreditation profile of programs in the CNSC Graduate School.

B. On Research

The research function of CNSC has indeed taken off in the past years hence more

accomplishments were reaped in 2016. The succeeding sections discuss the

accomplishments of CNSC relative to research, be it presented and published papers, or

patented inventions/utility models.

B.1 Research Completed in 2016

Table 1 Summarizes the CNSC researches completed in various research

conferences/fora. The researches were parallel to the Research and Development Agenda

previously identified by the College. A total of 34 researches were completed in 2016.

B.3. On Patenting

For the first time in CNSC, research outputs have successfully applied for patent

through the assistance of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST). Two research

outputs of Dr. Lilibeth A. Roxas on the use of Rambutan (Nephelium lappaceum Linn.)

kernels for cacao chocolate and its use as a composition in chocolate cake brownies were

awarded with Patent ID No. of UM Registration No. 2-2015-000255 and UM Application No.

2-2015-000254, respectively.

C. On Extension

Figure 6 shows that there was a decrease in the number of person trained weighted

based on the length of training. There was a ? increase relative to the FY 2015

accomplishment. The number of persons trained depends on the extension

programs/projects being conducted each year. The trainings provided to various group of

extension clients are presented in Table 3.

CONCLUSION With its accomplishments in 2016, CNSC has sustained the momentum it has started in the

past years, enabling it to reach new heights. The milestones achieved by the College this

year were all aligned to its greater vision of becoming a premier higher education institution

in the Bicol Region. Its growth in the academic, research, extension and even administration

shall further pave the way to that particular vision. The initiatives that we embarked on the

past years, is our inspiration to work on, a motivation to drive at and an accomplishment to

look back which can synergize our action into one dream, one goal and one vision of

becoming a premier higher education institution in the Bicol region.
