As of January 2, 2015, after entensive preperations,

Safe Connections proudly began offering counseling and support to adult males who have experienced

domestic or sexual violence as adults or in their childhoods.

We provided individual weekly therapy to 260 women and men, as well as 93 teen girls and boys.

Multiple therapists built on their Eye Movement Desensitization

and Reprocessing and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy skills by attending advanced training for each therapeutic method. These techniques have proven

to be the most effective in helping trauma survivors recover.

We began offering Rape Aggression Defense (RAD)

classes in self defense to both teens and adults.

With the hiring of a new Adolescent Therapist who is a Registered Yoga

Teacher, we began offering a popular yoga group for teen survivors of

intimate partner violence.

Crisis Intervention Services 2015

Staff and trained volunteers answered more than 4,600 calls on our 24-hour Crisis Helpline providing voice-to-voice support to callers from all over the St. Louis region.

We provided emergency transportation for 208 adults and 116 children over the course of 2015 for a total of 211 trips to safety. By covering travel expenses we helped get those experiencing violence out of danger and into safe places, including area shelters.

Our Crisis Support Program provided face-to-face intervention to 48 individuals in need of immediate stabilization while awaiting counseling services. This is an increase of 50% more clients than seen in 2014, largely in our efforts to better meet the urgent needs of those on our waiting list

Project HART teen dating violence prevention workshops were delivered to more than 9,300 middle and high

school-age students throughout the St. Louis area. We reached teens at

86 unique sites including 26 which were new this year.

All Project HART staff were trained in the delivery of our LGBTQ Education Series for

students. We continued to provide LGBTQ Safe Zone trainings

and other professional development workshops to

youth-serving professionals.

Nearly 660 young men accessed our Guys Group while Girls Group reached 157 young women. Participants learned

about the importance of healthy relationships and became peer leaders

against dating violence.

Safe Connections on Campus focused on training others on

supporting rape and dating violence victims on campuses.

Partnerships included key ones with Maryville University, Saint

Louis University and Washington University.

More than 240 volunteers dedicated more than 6,300 hours on boards, answering crisis calls, interning and much more. That’s more than $120,000 in time donated.

Safe Connections staffed booths at the St. Louis Business Journal Women’s Conference in January and Pridefest in June. Thousands were reached!

Safe Connections made a loud noise at our One Billion Rising in February at Maryville University. Our effort was part of the international movement to call attention to the worldwide epidemic of violence against women and girls.

Our Young Professionals raised funds and spirits through Trivia Night, Race4 Domestic Violence Prevention, a LOVE Dance Party and so much more.

National Charity League moms and daughters did so much including serving as the volunteer backbone for our brunch, beautifying our garden and making gift bags for clients. We appreciate you!

The 10th annual Voices Ending Violence dinner raised more than $65,000 – the most ever!

College student Cari Hill shared her story of rebuilding her life after abuse through family,

faith and hard work with her therapist here.

More than 360 women and girls celebrated our strengths at the Together!

brunch and raised more than $45,000. Cari Hill, Theresa Schwartz and

Susan Block inspired guests with their stories of overcoming adversity.

The best of Quilt National was on display for 10 days at the Peabody Opera House with 575 guests visiting this biennial fiber arts

show. More than $43,000 was raised for Safe Connections’ programs, almost completely

through generous individuals.

Safe Connections and Family Resource Center co-hosted the No More Abuse

Breakfast for more than 400 guests. Speakers included United Way CEO

Orvin Kimbrough and Honorary Co-chairs Michael McMillan of the Urban League and Kathy Osborn of

the Regional Business Council. Guests signed pledges of to say “no more” at

this free event which inspired enthusiastic community response.

Generous donors rallied online May 5th for our region’s second annual 24-hour GiveSTL Day which provided $6,813 to support our Emergency Assistance Fund for survivors of domestic and sexual violence.

Former client, Lindsay Fischer, re-released her memoir, The House on Sunset, and donated 50% of proceeds from sales to Safe Connections during February.
