Since we established SJT OutReach six years ago, we have found ourselves expanding and outgrowing the space within the building. It’s our dream to have our own dedicated OutReach space and we can’t wait to share this with you in the 60th anniversary year of the Stephen Joseph Theatre.

After a lot of planning, consulting, fundraising, drilling and banging, it is almost time to cut the ribbon on our new community facility – The OutReach Rooms!

Opening on Sunday 17 May, everybody is welcome to join in the celebrations. Find out more about what The OutReach Rooms have to offer in free taster sessions, workshops and more (see page 4 for details).

The new OutReach Rooms will give us scope to expand with exciting new community

projects and workshops, and a greater variety of participatory courses.

As we come back into the building, we will also be taking on the SJT colours and changing the OutReach logo from purple to red.

The SJT OutReach Rooms will be able to host workshops on every day of the week and will also be available for hire to community groups and commercial businesses.

We do hope you come and celebrate this important day with us on Sunday 17 May. We’re sure there is something for everybody to enjoy – and IT’S ALL FREE!

So please give us your support and make this space something that Scarborough will be proud of over the next 60 years!

NT Connections Showcase27 – 29 April, 7.00pm

Each year the National Theatre invites 10 writers to create new plays for young people to perform. This spring 260 youth theatre companies will present the premieres of these plays in venues from Inverness to Cornwall and Belfast to Norfolk. Each company will also perform at one of 27 Connections Festivals in professional theatres across the country, and 10 companies will go on to perform at the National Theatre. Connections celebrates great new writing for the stage – and the energy, commitment and talent of young theatre-makers.

Beasts And Beauties Adapted by Carol Ann Duffy, dramatised by Melly Still & Tim SuppleDirected by Cheryl Govan A gang of unsavoury characters gather to drink tea and challenge each other to perform gruesome folk tales.

They’ll make you laugh, they’ll make you cry, they’ll make you feel a little bit sick and if you’re really lucky, they might make you a cup of tea!

Not for the fainthearted!

Stephen Joseph Youth Theatre presents

Tiny Time Tales: Sally by the SeaWritten & directed by Cheryl Govan

25 July – 22 August, Every Saturday, 10.30am

Poor old Sally Ragdoll. The last thing she remembers is being on holiday with her lovely friend Tommy and his Mummy and Daddy and now here she is... washed up, on the seashore, all covered in shells and seaweed. She has no idea how long she’s been here and definitely no idea how to find her way home.

Come along and watch as Sally meets some of the weird and wonderful creatures who live by the sea. You might even be able to help her find her way home.

The usual Tiny Time Tales fun and nonsense with plenty of joining in.
