Enhance Hamilton County Foundation is a 501(c)3 charitable foundation created by and for local citizens to improve the quality of life right here in our communities. Through its volunteer board, representing all of Hamilton County, it awards funding according to its donor’s directions. Mission Statement: The mission of the Enhance Hamilton County Foundation is to foster private giving, strengthen service providers and improve the quality of life of citizens of Hamilton County. To these ends, it will promote endowment building, community building, grant making, organizational collaboration, and public leadership for the benefit of the designated area. What we support: The Enhance Hamilton County Foundation will provide grants to improve life in Hamilton County, Iowa. We want to help develop all our communities into places where people want to live, as well as to benefit rural areas of the county. Areas of Foundation giving are: arts & culture, community betterment, education, health & human services, recreation & environment and youth development. The Foundation supports the spirit of giving throughout Hamilton County by providing outstanding support and services to our donors, volunteers, other charitable-focused agencies, grant seekers, and the community. We achieve this by: Helping people realize their dreams of making a difference and finding the best vehicle to achieve that, by designing and implementing their charitable giving plans. Facilitating and supporting the works of charitable-focused organizations in Hamilton County through strategic grant making. Acting as stewards for the community by managing donor funds. Bringing diverse groups together for the common good. To be eligible to apply for grant funding your organization must be:

• Tax exempt, non-profit entities classified by the IRS as 501(c)(3) or a 170 (c)(1) governmental entity

• If not 501(c)(3), you must have a fiscal sponsor who will be legally & financially responsible • Only one application per organization is allowed

Grant Application Instructions

• All grant applications must be received by 5 PM on February 16, 2015. Submissions that arrive after 5 M are considered late and will not be considered for funding.

• All grant applications must be typed. No hand written applications will be accepted. • All grant applications must be submitted electronically to Darcy Swon at

[email protected]. • Narrative pages are limited to four. This does not include the cover page or budget pages. • All grant application projects must be focused on a community betterment project in Hamilton

County. • All grantees must be a 501(c) (3) or a 170 (c) (1) governmental entity or have a fiscal sponsor

who will be legally and financially responsible for the grant and fiscal management. • All grantees must agree to a visit by an Enhance Hamilton County Foundation Board Member(s). • All grantees must submit an article to their local newspaper regarding their grant project and

must credit Enhance Hamilton County Foundation as a funder. This article shall be included in the final report.

• Grant requests cannot exceed 50% of the grant project. • Grant projects that are not completed must return all grant funding.

• Grantees needing extended time to complete their project must fill a Grant Extension Request form and submit to Darcy Swon, Enhance Hamilton County Foundation Development Director, at [email protected] or by calling the Foundation office at 515-835-0437.

• Grants will be awarded for nine months. Grants needing additional time must state this need and reason for not meeting the nine month deadline in the grant application.

• Grant reports must be completed on time. Incomplete grant reports will result in ineligibility to receive grant funding for the next years grant cycle(s). The due dates for reports include:

• Three month progress report---July 22, 2015 • Six month progress report---October 21, 2015 • Final report, when project is completed or by January 22, 2016

• An agency may have only one current grant, previous grants not completed cannot apply for this year’s grant cycle.

• Report formats will be included in your grantee contract. • All grantees will receive a letter indicating their status of approval.

Definitions/Explanations Fiscal Sponsor: is an organization that is receiving the money on behalf of the grant applicant and is responsible for disbursing the money for the project and maintaining appropriate documentation. This entity must be a 501(C) (3) or a 170 (c) (1) unit of government in order to serve in this capacity. A fiscal sponsorship agreement must accompany the grant application if a fiscal sponsor is being used. Organizations must be recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as tax-exempt, nonprofit, public charities under section 501(c) (3) or as a “unit of government” under Section 170(c)(1) to receive grant funding. A 501(c) (3) is a section of the Federal Tax Code, which establishes the criteria for tax-exempt charitable organizations. Section 170(c) (1) refers to agencies that conduct activities to benefit the public at large, like public schools, state universities, public libraries and volunteer fire departments.
