INTRODUCTIONTOCOMPETITIONRULESSection1.01 PURPOSEToprovidea consistent setof competition rules (CompetitionRules) forall IRONMANandIRONMAN 70.3branded triathlon race competitions (the Races and together with allprograms,activities,ceremonies,receptions,andexhibitionsauthorizedbyIRONMANinconnectionwiththeRaces(theEvents)).Section1.02 INTENTIONCompetitionRulesareintendedto:

    (a) Facilitatefairplay,equality,andsportsmanship;(b) Supportingenuityandskillwithoutundulylimitingathletes;and(c) Penalizeathleteswhogain,orseektogain,anunfairadvantage.

    Section1.03 RACEPERSONNELDEFINITIONS(a) EventDirectoristhepersonappointedbyIRONMANtobeinchargeoftheEvent;(b) GlobalHead Referee is the person appointed by IRONMAN to be in charge of rule

    enforcementforallRaces;(c) HeadRefereeisthepersonappointedbyIRONMANtobeinchargeofruleenforcement

    fortheRace;(d) HeadTimeristhepersonappointedbyIRONMANtobeinchargeoftimingfortheRace;(e) RaceOfficialsorareeachpersonappointedbyIRONMANtomanageand/orsupervise

    theEvent;and(f) RaceRefereesaretheHeadRefereeandeachpersonappointedbytheHeadRefereeto

    enforcerulesfortheRace.Section1.04 EXCEPTIONS

    (a) CompetitionRulesmayvaryfromvenuetovenueduetocertainsanctioningrequirements,laws,localordinances,and/orRacecoursesurroundings;

    (b) EventspecificAthleteInformationGuideswillprovidefurtherguidancetoathletesandwillspecificallyaddressanyCompetitionRuleexceptions(ifany)foreachEventvenue;

    (c) CompetitionRulesspecificallyapplicabletothePhysicallyChallenged(PC)OpenDivisionaresetforthinArticleVIII;and

    (d) CompetitionRulesspecificallyapplicabletotheHandcycle(HC)DivisionaresetforthinArticleIX.

    Section1.05 INTELLECTUALPROPERTY

    TheEventsaretheexclusivepropertyofWorldTriathlonCorporation(WTC),WTCssubsidiaries,and,with respect to certain Events that are licensed byWTC to thirdparty licensees,WTCsauthorizedthirdpartylicensees(collectively,IRONMAN).IRONMANownsallrightsassociatedwiththeEventsincluding,withoutlimitation,therightstoorganize,exploit(commerciallyornoncommercially),broadcastandreproducetheEvents.IRONMANsrightsinclude,butarenotlimitedto, any type of digital media, whether photographic, audio, or video in nature, captured inconnectionwithanyEventorvenue(including,withoutlimitation,theRacecourse)andregardlessofownershipofthecapturingdevice.AllpersonaldataprovidedbyathletesorspectatorsforeachEventandthedataproducedfromtheEvent(including,withoutlimitation,theRaceresults)aretheexclusivepropertyofIRONMAN.Section1.06 PRIZEMONEY

    (a) PrizeMoneyisonlyavailableforprofessionaltriathleteswho,atthestartoftheRace,aremembersingoodstandingoftheIronmanProMembershipprogram(ProMembers);

    (b) WhenprizemoneyisavailableforanyEvent,norestrictiverulesorconditionsthathavetheeffectofimpedingperformancemaybeplaceduponanyonecategoryofProMembersunlesssuchrulesorconditionsareimposedequallyuponallthoseProMemberswhoareeligibleforprizemoney;

    (c) Prizemoney for any Event shall be offered equally between ProMembermales andfemalesinbothamountanddepth.Foreachplacingwhereprizemoneyisofferedforonegender, including any bonus for swim, bike, or run placement, there must be acorrespondingandequalplace for theothergenderofferingthesameamountofprizemoney;

    (d) WherethedepthofprizeplacesexceedsthenumberofregisteredProMembersineithergender, thatportionofprizemoneydesignated for theplaces forwhich there arenoregisteredProMemberswillnotbedistributed;and

    (e) ProMembersandanyotherprofessionaltriathletesarenoteligibletoreceiveagegroupawardsandagegroupathletesarenoteligibletoreceiveprizemoney.

    Section1.07 COMPETITIONAGEAllagegroupathletesmustparticipateandcompeteintheagegroupdivisioncorrespondingtotheathletesageasofDecember31oftheyearoftheEvent.

    ArticleII. CONDUCTOFATHLETESSection2.01 GENERALBEHAVIOREachathletemust:

    (a) Practicegoodsportsmanshipatalltimes;(b) Beresponsibleforhis/herownsafetyandthesafetyofothers;

    (c) Know,understand,andfollowallCompetitionRules,asstatedherein,intheEventspecificAthleteInformationGuide,andattheEventspecificathletebriefings;

    (d) ObeytrafficregulationsandinstructionsfromRaceOfficials;(e) Treatreferees,officials,volunteers,spectators,thepublic,andotherathleteswithrespect

    andcourtesy;(f) Avoidtheuseofabusivelanguage;(g) InformaRaceOfficialpromptlyafterwithdrawingfromtheRace.Failingtodosomayresult

    intemporarysuspensionorpermanentexpulsionfromotherEvents;(h) Competewithoutreceivingassistancefromotherparties(otherthanfromRaceReferees,

    RaceOfficials,andotherathletesinaccordancewithSection2.02;(i) Notdisposeoftrashorequipmentonthecourse(exceptataidstationsorotherdesignated

    trashdisposal points). Intentional or careless littering will result in a time penalty ordisqualification;

    (j) Notgainorattempttogainanyunfairadvantagefromanyexternalvehicleorobject;(k) Followtheprescribedcourse.Itistheathletesresponsibilitytoknowthecourse.Athletes

    must cover the prescribed course in its entirety. Failure to do so will result in adisqualification.Ifanathletemustexitthecourse,heorsheshallreenterthecourseatthesamepointofdeparturebeforecontinuing;and

    (l) Avoid indecent exposure and public nudity at all times during an Event. Indecentexposure/publicnuditymayresultinadisqualification.

    Section2.02 OUTSIDEASSISTANCE(a) AssistanceprovidedbyRaceRefereesorRaceOfficials isallowedbutsuchassistance is

    limited to: providing drinks, nutrition, mechanical and medical assistance, and othernecessaryassistance(asmaybeapprovedbytheEventDirectororHeadReferee).AthletescompetinginthesameRacemayassisteachotherwithincidentalitemssuchas,butnotrestrictedto:nutritionanddrinksafteranaidstationandpumps,tires,innertubes,andpuncturerepairkits;and

    (b) AthletesmaynotprovideanyitemofequipmenttoanathletecompetinginthesameRaceif it results in thedonorathletebeingunable tocontinuewithhis/herownRace.Suchequipment includesbut isnot restricted to:shoes,completebicycle, frame,wheels,orhelmet.Thepenaltyforthiswillbedisqualificationofbothathletes.

    Section2.03 ANTIDOPING

    (a) Athletes are bound by and must comply with all provisions of the AntiDopingRulesadoptedbyIRONMANincludingtheWorldAntiDopingAgency(WADA)Code(theWADA Code), the International Standards and List of Prohibited Substances andProhibited Methods issued and published by WADA, and all policies and proceduresadoptedbyIRONMANinsupportofsuchWADArules(IRONMANsantidopingpoliciesandprocedurescanbefoundatwww.ironman.com)(collectively,theAntiDopingRules);

    (b) AnyviolationoftheAntiDopingRulesisaviolationoftheCompetitionRules;(c) PriortoeachEventallathletesareresponsibleforfamiliarizingthemselveswiththeAnti

    Doping Rules including medical and doping control tests, testing obligations, rights,responsibilities and procedures, penalties and appeal processes, and prohibitedsubstances;and

    (d) SanctionsissuedforAntiDopingRuleviolationswillbedealtwithinaccordancewiththeWADACodeandIRONMANsAntiDopingRules.

    Section2.04 ELIGIBILITY

    (a) AthletesmustmeetallrequirementsoftheEventssanctioningbody(e.g.,includingbutnotlimitedtothesanctioningbodieslicensingand/orinsurancerequirements).Licensingand/or insurance requirementswillbe stated in theEventspecificAthlete InformationGuide;

    (b) AthletesundersuspensionbyIRONMANarenotallowedtocompeteinanyEvent;(c) Anathletesracingage isdeterminedbytheirageonDecember31st intheyearofthe

    Event;(d) MinimumracingagewillbestatedintheEventspecificAthleteInformationGuide;(e) Anathletewhocompetesinacategorydifferentfromhis/heragewillbedisqualifiedfrom

    theEvent(s) inwhichhe/sheparticipated in.Anyawards,prizes,and/orpointswillberevoked;

    (f) Anyathletethatcommits fraudbyenteringanyEventunderanassumednameorage,falsifyinganaffidavitorgivingfalseinformationwillbedisqualifiedandrisksuspensionorexpulsionfromotherEvents;

    (g) ThePhysicallyChallenged(PC)OpenDivision(eligibilityrequirementsarespecificallysetforthinArticleVIII;and

    (h) TheHandcycle(HC)DivisioneligibilityrequirementsarespecificallysetforthinArticleIX.Section2.05 RACEFINISH,TIMING,ANDRESULTS

    (a) Anathletewillbejudgedasfinishedthemomentanypartofhis/hertorsocrossesaverticallineextendingfromtheleadingedgeofthefinishline;

    (b) ARacewillbewonbytheathletewhohastheshortesttimefromtheapplicablestartsignaltothemomentwhentheathletefinishestheRace;

    (c) TheHeadReferee,inconsultationwiththeHeadTimer,willuseallresourcesreasonablyavailabletodecidethefinalpositionofeveryathlete.Informationfromtechnologymaybeusedtoassistinthedecisionmakingprocess.TheHeadRefereeorHeadTimermaydecide,basedontheavailableevidence,thataRaceistiedifthereisnoreasonablewayofclearlydeterminingwhichathlete crossed the line first.Resultsof tiedathleteswillbe sortedaccordingtoRacebibnumbers,provided,however,thatathleteswhofinishinacontrivedtiesituation(e.g.,wherenoeffortismadebyeitherathletetoseparatetheathletesfinishtimefromthefinishtimeoftheotherathlete)willbedisqualified;

    (d) Results will be official once the Head Referee signs them. Incomplete results can bedeclaredofficialatanytime;and

    (e) Resultswill include athleteswho do not finish the Race (DNF), and thosewho aredisqualified(DSQ),listedinthisorder:

    (i) DNFathletes,followedbyDSQathletes;and(ii) AllavailablesplitswillbelistedforDNFathletes.

    ArticleIII. PENALTIESSection3.01 GENERAL

    (a) Failure to comply with any of the Competition Rules may result in an athlete beingpunishedwithaStopandGoTimePenalty,a5:00MinuteTimePenalty,disqualificationfromtheEvent,suspensionfrommultipleEvents,orexpulsionforlifefromallEvents;

    (b) RaceRefereeswillnotifyathletesofaruleviolationbyshowingtheathleteacoloredcardincombinationwithaverbaldirective.Penaltycardcolorsandtheirassociatedpenaltyisasfollows:

    (i) YellowCard:StopandGoTimePenalty;(ii) BlueCard:5:00MinuteTimePenalty;and(iii) RedCard:disqualification;

    (c) Thenatureoftheruleviolationwilldeterminethetypeofpenalty;(d) AsuspensionoranexpulsionwilloccurforseriousviolationsoftheCompetitionRules(the

    severity of Competition Rule violations shall be determined by the Head Referee inconsultationwiththeGlobalHeadReferee,intheirsoleandabsolutediscretion);

    (e) ThemostcommonruleviolationsandpenaltiesaresetforthinAppendixA;(f) InanycircumstancewhereaRaceRefereedeemsanunfairadvantagehasbeengainedby

    anathlete,orifaRaceRefereedeterminesthatanathletehasintentionallyorrecklesslycreatedadangeroussituation,suchRaceRefereemay,attheRaceRefereesdiscretion,assesspenalties toordisqualifyathletes (even ifsuchviolationsby theathletearenotexpresslysetforthintheCompetitionRules).

    Section3.02 TIMEPENALTIES

    (a) Forpurposesofclarityandfortheathletesconvenience,certainCompetitionRulesmayexpresslyciteacorrespondingtimepenaltybeingexpresslycitedhereinordisqualificationpenalty.However,theabsenceofacorrespondingpenaltywithrespecttoanyruledoesnotprecludeRaceRefereesfromissuingapenaltyfortheviolationofanysuchrule.Eachapplicablepenalty(ifone isexpresslystated intheseCompetitionRules)maybestatedwithin thecontextof the ruleormaybestated inparentheses following the rule (e.g.,StopandGoTimePenalty,5:00MinuteTimePenalty,ordisqualificationDSQ);

    (b) RaceRefereesarenotrequiredtogiveathletesawarningbeforeissuingapenalty;(c) Swimcoursetimepenaltieswillbeservedintheswimtobiketransitionarea(T1)under

    instructionsfromaRaceReferee;(d) BikecoursetimepenaltieswillbeservedinadesignatedPenaltyTent(PT).Thelocation

    ofthePTswillbestatedintheEventspecificAthleteInformationGuide.ItistheathletesresponsibilitytoreporttothenextPTonthecourse.FailuretostopatthenextPTonthebikecoursewillresultindisqualification;

    (e) Runcourse time penalties will be served at the point of the rule violation, underinstructionsfromaRaceReferee(therearenoPTsontheruncourse);

    (f) Abluecardwillbeusedfordraftingviolationsandintentionallittering,andayellowcardwillbeusedforcertainotherruleinfringements;

    (g) Whena ruleviolation is issuedbyaRaceRefereewith respect toconducton thebikecourse,theRaceRefereewill:

    (i) Notifytheathletethattheathletehasareceivedayellowcard,bluecard,orredcardandwillshowtheathletethecorrespondingcard;and

    (ii) InstructtheathletetoreporttothenextPTonthecourse.(h) Whencitedforaruleviolationonthebikecourse,theathletemust:

    (i) ReporttothenextPTandtellthePTofficialthecolorofthecardreceived.IftheathletefailstoreporttothenextPTorfailstoreportthecorrectcolorofthecard,theathletewillbedisqualified;

    (ii) HavebikenumbersmarkedbythePTofficialwithaslash(/);(iii) RegisteronthePTsigninsheet;(iv) Uponreceivingayellowcard,resumetheRaceonlyaftercompletionof(ii)and

    (iii)above;and(v) Uponreceivingabluecard,resumetheRaceonlyafterremaininginthePTfor

    5:00Minutes(andonlyaftercompletionof(ii)and(iii)above).Section3.03 DISQUALIFICATION

    (a) Any athlete who accumulates three penalties (of any color) will be disqualified. Ifdisqualified,anathletemayfinishtheRaceunlessotherwiseinstructedbyaRaceReferee;

    (b) Aredcardmaybeissuedtoanathleteforsevereruleviolationsincluding,butnotlimitedto, repeated rule violations, disregard for directives given by Race Referees or RaceOfficials,ordangerousorunsportsmanlikeconduct;and

    (c) Disqualifiedathleteswillnotbeeligibleforagegroupawardsincluding,withoutlimitation,IRONMANWorldChampionshipslotsorIRONMAN70.3WorldChampionshipslots.NeithertimingsplitsnorRaceresultswillbelistedfordisqualifiedathletes.

    Section3.04 SUSPENSION(a) Asuspensionmaybeissuedforfraudulentconductorcertainruleviolationsincluding,but

    not limited to, illegal transfer of entries, repeated rule violations, intentional coursecutting,ordangerousorunsportsmanlikeconduct;

    (b) SuspensionswillbeassessedbytheGlobalHeadRefereebasedoninformationsubmittedbytheHeadRefereeortheEventDirector;

    (c) SuspensionswillbeissuedbytheGlobalHeadRefereeforperiodsofnolessthanthree(3)monthsandnotexceedingfour(4)years,dependingontheseverityoftheviolation(s);

    (d) SuspendedathleteswillbeprohibitedfromcompetinginanyEventandanyothereventaffiliatedwithIRONMANduringthesuspensionperiod;

    (e) Suspendedathleteswillbenotified,inwriting,bytheGlobalHeadReferee.IRONMANwillnotify the International Triathlon Union and the relevant National Federation of theathletessuspension;and

    (f) AlistofcommonruleviolationsthatmayresultinasuspensionaresetforthinAppendixA.

    Section3.05 EXPULSION(a) AnathletemaybeexpelledforlifefromcompetinginanyEventsoranyotherIRONMAN

    affiliatedevents if theathlete repeatedly violates theCompetitionRules, is repeatedlydisqualifiedfromEvents,oriftheathleteisrepeatedlysuspendedfromEvents;

    (b) Expelledathleteswillbenotified,inwriting,bytheGlobalHeadReferee;(c) ExpulsionsissuedforAntiDopingRuleviolationswillbedealtwithinaccordancewiththe

    AntiDopingRules;and(d) TheInternationalTriathlonUnionandrelevantNationalFederationwillbenotifiedofthe

    athletesexpulsion.

    Section3.06 RIGHTOFPROTESTORAPPEAL(a) Theathletesrighttoprotestorappeal,ifany,willbegovernedandhandledbytheEvents

    sanctioningbody,and/orthecompetitionrulesoftherelevantNationalFederation;

    (b) Noprotestmaybe filedwith respect tomatterswhichwereobservedbyorpreviouslyruleduponbyaRaceReferee.Nopersonmayfileaprotestwhichrequiresajudgmentcall.A"judgmentcall,"asusedintheseCompetitionRules,meanstheresolutionofadisputeinvolving one ormorematerial facts that cannot be determinedwith certainty solelythrough the production of tangible physical evidence. The term "judgment call" shallincludebutshallnotbelimitedtoaresolutionof:

    (i) any purported violation of the cycling position foul rules (including allegeddraftingviolations);

    (ii) allegationsofblocking,obstruction,orinterference;or(iii) allegationsofunsportsmanlikeconduct.

    (c) Appealsbyathletespenalizedforjudgmentcallswillnotbeconsidered.Section3.07 REINSTATEMENTFollowinganysuspensionperiod,thesuspendedathletemustrequest, inwritingtotheGlobalHeadReferee,andreceiveIRONMANsapprovalpriortoresumingparticipationinanyEvent.

    ArticleIV. SWIMCONDUCTSection4.01 GENERAL

    (a) EachswimmermustwearanofficialswimcapprovidedbytheRaceOfficials.FailingtowearaswimcapatalltimesduringtheswimsegmentoftheRacemayresult inatimepenaltyenforcedbyRaceRefereesaftertheswimsegmentinT1.

    (b) Wearingswimgogglesorafacemaskisneitherprohibitednorrequired;(c) Theuseoffins,gloves,paddles,orflotationdevicesofanykind(includingpullbuoys) is

    prohibited;(DSQ)(d) TheuseofacastorsplintmustbepreapprovedbytheEventspecificHeadReferee;(Stop

    andGoTimePenaltyorDSQ)(e) Neoprene or any other booties are prohibited unless the water temperature is 18.3

    degreesC/65.0degreesF,orcolder;(StopandGoTimePenalty)(f) Snorkelsmaybeworndue toamedicalconditionsupportedbydocumentation froma

    physician.Anyathleteusingasnorkelwillnotbeeligibleforagegroupawardsincluding,without limitation, IRONMAN World Championship slots or IRONMAN 70.3 WorldChampionshipslots;

    (g) Whentheuseofwetsuitsisprohibited(seeSection4.03),clothingcoveringanypartofthearmsbelowtheshouldersandclothingcoveringanyofthelegbelowthekneeisdeemedillegalequipmentandisnotpermittedduringtheswimsegmentoftheRacebutmaybewornaftercompletionoftheswimsegment;(DSQ)

    (h) Individualpaddlersorescortsareprohibited;(DSQ)

    (i) Anyassistanceduringtheswimwillresultindisqualificationifforwardprogresswasmade.Athletesarepermittedtousekayaksandboatsasaid,aslongasnoforwardprogressismade.Specialprovisionsaremade forathletes in thePhysicallyChallengedOpen (PCOpen)division.RaceOfficialsandmedicalpersonnelreservetherighttoremoveathletesfromthecourseifsuchremovalisdeterminedmedicallynecessary;

    (j) It isthesoleresponsibilityofeachathletetoknowandfollowtheprescribedswimmingcourse.Noadjustmentsintimesorresultswillbemade,foranyreasonwhatsoever,forathleteswhofailtofollowthepropercourse;

    (k) Indecentexposure/publicnudityisprohibitedatalltimesduringanevent;(DSQ)and(l) SwimcoursecutofftimeswillbestatedintheEventspecificAthleteInformationGuide.

    Section4.02 WETSUITRULES(a) Foragegroupathletes,wetsuitsmaybeworninwatertemperaturesuptoandincluding

    24.5degreesC/76.1degreesF;(DSQ)(b) Forprofessionalathletes,wetsuitsmaybeworninwatertemperaturesuptoandincluding

    21.9degreesC/71.5degreesF;(DSQ)(c) Wetsuitscannotmeasuremorethan5mmthick. Aracekitmaybewornunderneatha

    wetsuit,butwhenusingasleevelesswetsuit,clothingcoveringanypartofthearmsbelowtheshouldersisprohibited;(DSQ)and

    (d) Wetsuits are mandatory for professional athletes and agegroup athletes for watertemperaturesbelow16degreesC/60.8degreesF.(DSQ)

    Section4.03 SWIMWEARPOLICYWHENTHEUSEOFWETSUITSISPROHIBITED(a) Swimwearmust be 100% textile material,which is defined asmaterials consisting of

    naturaland/orsynthetic,individualandnonconsolidatedyarnsusedtoconstituteafabricbyweaving,knittingand/orbraiding(thisgenerallyreferstosuitsmadeonlyfromnylonorlycrathatdonothaveanyrubberizedmaterialsuchaspolyurethaneorneoprene);(DSQ)

    (b) Swimwearmustnotcover theneck,mustnotextendpast the shoulder,andmustnotextendpasttheknees.Swimwearmaycontainazipper;(DSQ)and

    (c) Atextileracekitmaybewornunderneathswimwear,provided,however,thatthetextileracekitmustnotextendpasttheshoulderandmustnotextendpasttheknees.(DSQ)

    Section4.04 ILLEGALEQUIPMENT(a) HeadsetsorheadphonesareprohibitedduringtheswimsegmentoftheRace.(Stopand

    GoTimePenalty,DSQifnotremediedpromptly)(b) UnlesspreapprovedbytheHeadReferee,communicationdevicesofanytype,suchascell

    phonesandtwowayradiosarestrictlyprohibitedduringtheswimsegmentoftheRace;(DSQ)and

    (c) Cameras,phonecameras,andvideocamerasareprohibitedunlesspermissionisgivenbyIRONMAN. If suchpermission isgivenby IRONMAN, it is theathletes responsibility tonotifytheHeadRefereeofsuchpermissionpriortothestartoftheRace.Athletesseenwithanunauthorizedcamera,phonecamera,orvideocamerawillbedisqualified.

    ArticleV. BIKECONDUCTSection5.01 GENERAL

    (a) Allbicyclesmustbepropelledonlybyhumanpower.Other thanpushingorcarryingabicycle,anypropulsiveactionbroughtonbyuseofthehands isprohibited(exceptwithrespecttoPCathletesandHCathletesinaccordancewithArticlesVIIIandIX);(DSQ)

    (b) Athletesmustnotmakeanyforwardprogressunaccompaniedbytheirbicycle.Ifabicycleisrenderedinoperable,anathletemayproceedonthecyclingcourse,runningorwalking,whilepushingorcarryingthebicycle,solongasthebicycleispushedorcarriedinamannernottoobstructorimpedetheprogressofotherathletes;(DSQ)

    (c) Itisthesoleresponsibilityofeachathletetoknowandfollowtheprescribedcyclingcourse.Noadjustmentsintimesorresultswillbemade,foranyreasonwhatsoever,forathleteswhofailtofollowthepropercourse;

    (d) All athletes must obey all traffic laws while on the cycling course unless otherwisespecifically directed by a Race Referee or Race Official with actual authority. Unlessotherwisedirectedinaccordancewiththeprecedingsentence,allathletesmustcometoacomplete stopwhen requiredbya traffic signor trafficcontroldeviceandmustnotproceedthroughanyintersectionunlesssuchintersectionisclearofoncomingtraffic.Innocasecanacyclistcrossasolidyellow line indicatinganopassingzone;(StopandGoTimePenaltyor,dependinguponseverityofviolation,DSQ)

    (e) Nocyclistshallendangerherself/himselforanotherathlete.Anycyclistwhointentionallyorrecklesslypresentsadangertoanyathleteorwho,inthejudgmentoftheHeadReferee,appearstopresentadangertoanyathletewillbedisqualified;

    (f) Allathletesmustexerciseextremecautionanddecreasespeedifnecessaryinpassingthesiteofanycyclingorotheraccident;(DSQ)

    (g) Cyclingwithabaretorsoisprohibited.Athletesmustwearashirt,jersey,orsporttopatalltimesduringthecyclingsegmentoftheRace;(StopandGoTimePenalty,DSQ ifnotremediedpromptly)

    (h) Cameras,phonecameras,andvideocamerasareprohibitedunlesspermissionisgivenbyIRONMAN.IfpermissionisgivenbyIRONMAN,itistheathletesresponsibilitytonotifytheHead Referee of such permission prior to the start of the Race.Athletes seenwith acamera,phonecamera,orvideocamerawillbedisqualified;

    (i) Athletesmustwearabikehelmetnumberonthefrontoftheirhelmet;(StopandGoTimePenalty)

    (o) BikecoursecutofftimeswillbestatedintheEventspecificAthleteInformationGuide.

    Section5.02 EQUIPMENT(a) Wheels

    (i) The front wheel must be of spoke construction (aero rim with spokes ispermitted)andmustnotbesolid;(DSQ)

    (ii) Therearwheelmaybeeitherspokeorsolidconstruction(discwheel).Wheelcoversarepermittedonlyontherearwheel.Forreasonsofsafety,solid(disc)rearwheelsareprohibitedattheIRONMANWorldChampionship;(DSQ)and

    (iii) Nowheelmay containanymechanism capableofacceleratingorartificiallycausingthecontinuedrotationofthewheel.(DSQ)

    (b) Helmets(i) Helmetsmustbeapprovedbyanationalaccreditedtestingauthorityandsuch

    authoritymust be recognized by the International TriathlonUnion and therelevantNational Federation. (Please note: at all Events sanctioned by USATriathlon (USAT), USAT requires all agegroup athletes to wear a helmetapprovedbytheUSACPSC);(DSQ)

    (ii) AhelmetmustbewornbyathleteswhoareridingabikeduringtheEvent:(e.g.,including but not limited to the Race competition, familiarization of Racecourse,andtrainingsessions);(StopandGoTimePenalty,DSQifnotremediedpromptly)

    (iii) Analterationtoanypartofthehelmet,includingthechinstrap,ortheomissionofanypartofthehelmet,isprohibited;(DSQ)

    (iv) The helmet must be securely fastened at all times when the athlete is inpossessionofthebike,whichmeansfromthetimetheyremovetheirbikefromtherackatthestartofthebikesegmentoftheRace,untilaftertheathletehasplacedtheathletesbikeontherackatthefinishofthebikesegmentoftheRace;(StopandGoTimePenalty,DSQifnotremediedpromptly)and

    (v) IfanathletemovestheathletesbikeoffoftheRacecourseforanyreason,theathletemaynotunfastenor remove thehelmetuntil after the athletehasmovedoutsidetheboundaryofthebikecourserouteandhasdismountedfromthebike.Beforereturningontothebikecourseorbeforeremountingthebiketheathletemustfastenthehelmetsecurelyontheathleteshead.(StopandGoTimePenalty,DSQifnotremediedpromptly)

    (c) IllegalEquipment(i) Helmetmirrorsormirrorsattachedtothebikeorbodyareprohibited(unless

    neededforaverifiablemedicalreasonandpreapprovedbytheHeadReferee).Athletesgrantedpermission touse amirrorwillbe ineligible for to receiveawardsincluding,withoutlimitation,WorldChampionshipentryslots.Athletesusingamirrorwithoutpriorapproval,willbedisqualified;

    (ii) Cameras,phonecameras,andvideocamerasareprohibitedunlesspermissionisgivenby IRONMAN. Ifpermission isgivenby IRONMAN, it is theathletesresponsibilitytonotifytheHeadRefereeofsuchpermissionpriortothestartoftheRace.Athletesseenwithacamera,phonecamera,orvideocamerawillbedisqualified;

    (iii) UnlesspreapprovedbytheHeadReferee,communicationdevicesofanytype,suchascellphonesandtwowayradiosareprohibitedduringtheRace.UseofsuchdevicesduringtheRacewillresultindisqualification;

    (iv) HeadsetsorheadphonesareprohibitedduringtheRace;(StopandGoPenalty,DSQifnotremediedpromptly);and

    (v) Bikeorpartsofthebikenotcomplyingwiththebikespecifications(assetforthinSection5.03)areprohibited;(StopandGoTimePenaltyorDSQdependingonseverity).

    Section5.03 BIKESPECIFICATIONS

    (a) Allbicyclesandbicycleequipmentmust conform to the specifications set forth in thisSection.Anyathlete(otherthananathletescompetingintheHCDivisionorthePCOpenDivision) using a nonconforming bicycle or otherwise violating this Section will bedisqualified:

    (i) Lengthcannotexceedtwometers,andwidthcannotexceed75centimeters;(ii) The distance from the ground to the center of the chainwheel axlemust

    measureatleast24centimeters;(iii) Averticallinetouchingthefrontmostpointofthesaddlemaybenomorethan

    5centimeters infrontofandnomorethan15centimetersbehindaverticallinepassingthroughthecenterofthechainwheelaxle.ThecyclistmustnothavethecapabilityofadjustingthesaddlebeyondtheselimitsduringtheRace;

    (iv) The "fronttocenter" distance,which is defined as the distance between averticallinepassingthroughthecenterofthechainwheelaxleandaverticallinepassingthroughthecenterofthefrontaxle,mustmeasurenotlessthan54centimeters,exceptwhere thedistancebetween thecenterof thechainwheelaxleandthetopofthesaddleislessthan71centimeters(inthiscasethefronttocenterdistancecannotbe lessthan50centimeters). The"fronttocenter"distancemustnotmeasuremore than the65centimeters,orseveneighthsofthedistancebetweenthecenterofthechainwheelaxleandthetopof the saddle, whichever is greater. Applicability of the two foregoingexceptionsisdeterminedbymeasuringfromapointontopofthesaddlewhichis14centimetersbehindthefrontmostpointofthesaddle.

    (b) Fairingsareprohibited.Anydeviceaddedorblendedintothestructurethatmaydecrease,orthathastheeffectofdecreasing,resistancetoairpenetration,orthatmayartificiallyacceleratepropulsion, such as aprotective screen, fuselage form fairingor the like, isprohibited;(DSQ)

    (c) ExceptasotherwisedeterminedbytheEventDirectorintheinterestofsafety,thefrontwheelmaybeofadifferentdiameterthantherearwheel;

    (d) Handlebarsandstemmustbefashionedtopreventanydanger.Allhandlebarendsmustbesolidlypluggedtolessenthepossibilityofinjury;(StopandGoTimePenalty,DSQifnotremediedpromptly)

    (e) Theremustbeoneworkingbrakeoneachofthetwowheels;(DSQ)(f) Theremustbea freewheelingmechanismbetween thecrankand the rearwheel that

    allowsthebicycletorollforwardwhilethepedalsremainstationary;(DSQ)(g) Allaspectsof thebicyclemustbe safe to the riderand tootherathletes in theRace.

    Minimumsafetystandardsinclude,butarenotlimitedto,properlygluedandsealedtires,tightheadsetandhandlebars,andtruewheels;and

    (h) Nontraditionalorunusualbikesorequipmentareillegalunless,priortothestartoftheRace,approvalhasbeengrantedfromtheEventspecificHeadReferee.(DSQ)

    Section5.04 DRAFTINGANDPOSITIONRULES(a) Draftingmeanstoenterthedraftzone(asdescribedbelow)ofanotherathleteorany

    vehicle.DraftingduringtheRaceisprohibited;(5:00MinuteTimePenalty)

    (b) Theagegroupbicycledraftzoneis10meterslong,measuredfromtheleadingedgeofthefrontwheelandextending towards thebackof thebike (5bike lengthsofclear spacebetweenbikes).Anagegroupathletemayenterthedraftzoneofanotherathletewhenpassingandmustcontinuouslyprogressthroughthedraftzone.Amaximumof20secondswill be allowed to pass through the draft zone of another athlete; (5:00minute TimePenalty)

    (c) Theprofessionalbicycledraftzoneis12meterslong,measuredfromtheleadingedgeofthefrontwheelandextendingtowardsthebackofthebike(6bikelengthsofclearspacebetweenbikes).Aprofessionalathletemustimmediatelymovetothesideuponenteringthe draft zone of another athlete when passing (i.e., no slipstreaming) and mustcontinuouslyprogressthroughthedraftzone.Amaximumof25secondswillbeallowedtopassthroughthezoneofanotherathlete;(5:00MinuteTimePenalty)

    (d) Agegroupathletesmustremainoutsideofthedraftzone(5bikelengthsbetweenbikes)exceptwhenpassing.Failuretodosowillresultinadraftingviolation;(5:00MinuteTimePenalty)

    (e) Professionalathletesmustremainoutsideofthedraftzone(6bikelengthsbetweenbikes)exceptwhen passing (i.e., no slipstreaming). Failure to do sowill result in a draftingviolation;(5:00MinuteTimePenalty)

    (f) Apassoccurswhentheovertakingathletesfrontwheelpassestheleadingedgeofthefrontwheeloftheathletebeingovertaken;

    (g) Theovertakingathletemaynotbackoutofadraftzoneafterentering into it.Onceanovertakingathleteentersthedraftzoneofanotherathlete,apassmustbecompleted;(5:00MinuteTimePenalty)

    (h) Anovertakenathletemustimmediatelydropoutofthedraftzoneofthepassingathlete,andmust continuouslymake rearward progress out of the draft zone of the passingathlete.Repassingbytheovertakenathletepriortodroppingoutofthedraftzonewillresultinanovertakenviolation;(StopAndGoTimePenalty)

    (i) Overtakenathleteswhoremainwithinthedraftzoneofthepassingathleteformorethan20seconds(or25secondsforprofessionalathletes)willbegivenadraftingviolation;(5:00MinuteTimePenalty)

    (j) Athletesmustridesinglefileonthefarrightside(orleftsidedependingonlocallaw)ofthebikecourseroadexceptwhenpassinganotherathlete(orforreasonsofsafety).Sidebyside riding isnotpermittedandmay result inadraftingorblockingviolation; (5:00MinuteTimePenaltyorStopandGopenalty)

    (k) Exceptions: An athlete may enter the drafting zone without penalty only under thefollowingconditions:

    (i) Ifanathleteentersthedraftingzoneandcompletesapasswithin20seconds(foragegroupathletes)orwithin25seconds(forprofessionalathletes);

    (ii) Forsafetyreasons;

    constructions,detours,orforothersafetyreasons.(l) Athleteswho impede the forward progress of other athleteswill be given a blocking

    violation;(StopandGoTimePenalty)and(m) Athletesviolating rulesunder thisSection5.04willbenotified on thespotbyaRace

    Referee.Pleasenote:ifasafetyhazardpreventsarefereefromnotifyinganathleteonthespot(e.g.,heavytraffic,narrowroads,congestedarea,etc.)therefereewillnotifythepenalizedathletewhenthesafetyhazardnolongerexists.

    Section5.05 PENALTYTENT(a) Allbikecourse timepenaltieswillbe served in adesignatedPenaltyTent (PT). The

    locationofthePTswillbestatedintheEventspecificAthleteInformationGuide.Afteraruleviolationisissuedtotheathlete,itistheathletesresponsibilitytoreporttothenextPT on the course. Failure to stop at the next PT on the bike course will result indisqualification;

    (b) WhileinthePT,athletescanconsumeonlythefoodand/orwaterthatisontheathletesbikeorperson;(DSQ)

    (c) AthletesareprohibitedfromusingtherestroomwhileservingapenaltyinthePT.Usingtherestroomwhileservingatimepenaltywillresultindisqualification;and

    (d) Making adjustments to equipment or performing any type of bikemaintenancewhileservingapenaltyinthePTisprohibited;(DSQ)

    ArticleVI. RUNCONDUCTSection6.01 GENERAL

    (a) Athletesmayrun,walk,orcrawl;(b) It is the sole responsibilityofeach athlete to know and follow theprescribed running

    ArticleVIII. PHYSICALLYCHALLENGED(PC)OPENDIVISIONSection8.01 GENERAL

    (a) Participation in the PCOpenDivision is available to athleteswith amedically verifiedphysical,visual,orneurologicalimpairmentthatsubstantiallylimitsoneormoremajorlifeactivities.Athleteswithothermiscellaneousmedicalconditionssuchas,butnotlimitedto,intolerance to temperature extremes, organ transplants, joint replacements(endoprosthetics),kidneydialysis,hearingimpairments,and/orcognitiveimpairmentarenoteligibletoparticipateinthePCOpenDivision;

    (b) Exceptasset forthabove in (a),PCathletesarenotrequiredtorequestorreceiveanyformalparatriathlonclassification;

    (c) Exceptwithrespecttotheexceptionslistedin(i)(iii)below,adaptiveequipmentusedinthe PC Open Division must conform to the equipment specifications listed in theInternationalTriathlonUnion (ITU)ParatriathlonRuleModificationsorasotherwisespecifiedintheseCompetitionRuleswiththefollowingexceptions:

    (i) PCathleteswithdisabilitiesthataffecttheathletesabilitytoremainbalancedmayusestabilizerwheelsduringthebicyclesegmentoftheRace.(Pleasenote:TheBIKEUSA,Inc.StabilizerWheelKitisanadulttrainingwheelkitandhasbeenapproved foruse inEvents.     (e) Conduct and standards forhandlers and guidesofPC athletes is governedby the ITUParatriathlonRules.

    Section8.02 SWIMCONDUCT(a) IRONMANreservestherighttoseedPCOpenDivisionathletesattheswimstartofthe

    Race(i.e.,earlystart,latestart,designatedwave,etc.);(b) PCAthletesmayusewetsuitsduringtheswimsegmentoftheRaceatanygivenwater

    temperature;(c) PriortothestartoftheRaceathletesmustobtainpriorapprovalfromtheEventDirector

    with respect toallspecial requests related toswimwearand/oraccessories tobeusedduring the swim segment of the Race. Any change thereafter will be grounds fordisqualification;and

    (d) Theuseofanyflotationdevicesisprohibited.Section8.03 BIKECONDUCT

    (a) EachPCathletescyclingconduct shallbeconsistentwithArticleVof theCompetitionRules;

    (b) Standardbicyclesaresubject tospecifications set forth inArticleVof theCompetitionRules.Adaptationsnotspecified inArticleVmustbepreapprovedbytheHeadRefereepriortoRaceday;

    (c) RaceOfficialsreservetherighttorejectanybicycle/handcyclenotmeeting IRONMANssafetystandards;

    (d) EachPC athlete is required tomaintain controlofhis/herbicycle and tooperate at areasonablespeedsoasnottothreatenthesafetyandwellbeingofaidstationvolunteers,othercompetitors,RaceOfficialsand/orspectators.Operationofabicycle/handcycleinadangerousorrecklessmannerwillbegroundsfordisqualification;and

    (e) AnapprovedhelmetisrequiredduringtheentirebikesegmentoftheRace(includinginandoutofthetransitionarea).Anyathleteridingwithoutanapprovedhelmetorchinstrapfastenedwillbedisqualified.

    Section8.04 RUNCONDUCT(a) EachPCathletesrunningconductshallbeconsistentwithArticleVIoftheCompetition

    Rules;and

    ArticleIX. HANDCYCLE(HC)DIVISIONSection9.01 GENERAL

    (a) AHandcycleDivisionmaybeoffered at the Event,provided,however, that,basedoncertainsafetyandoperationalconstraints,theEventDirector(intheEventDirectorssoleandabsolutediscretion)mayprohibittheoccurrenceofanHCDivisionatanyEvent;

    (b) Handcycle athletesmust use a recumbent handcycle on the bike course and a racingwheelchairontheruncourse;

    (c) TheHCDivisionisacompetitivedivision;and(d) RaceawardswithrespecttotheHCDivisionwillnotbebaseduponagegroupswithinthe

    HCDivision,butwillbegiventothetopfemaleandmalefinishersoftheHCDivision.Section9.02 SWIMCONDUCT

    (a) ExceptassetforthinthisSection,eachHCathletesswimconductshallbeconsistentwithArticleIVoftheCompetitionRules;

    (b) IRONMANreservestherighttoseedHCDivisionathletesattheswimstartoftheRace(i.e.,earlystart,latestart,designatedwave,etc.);

    (c) HCathletesmayusewetsuitsduringtheswimsegmentoftheRaceatanygivenwatertemperature;

    (c) RaceOfficialsreservetherighttorejectanybicycle/handcyclenotmeeting IRONMANssafetystandards;

    (d) HCAthletesare required tomaintain controlofhis/herhandcycleand tooperateatareasonablespeedsoasnottothreatenthesafetyandwellbeingofaidstationvolunteers,spectators, thepublic,RaceOfficials,andotherathletes.Operationofahandcycle inadangerousorrecklessmannerwillbegroundsfordisqualification;and

    (e) AnapprovedhelmetisrequiredduringtheentirebikesegmentoftheRace(includinginandoutof the transition area).AnyHC athlete ridingwithout an approvedhelmetorchinstrapfastenedwillbedisqualified.

    Section9.04 RUNCONDUCT(a) ExceptassetforthinthisSection,eachHCathletesrunningconductshallbeconsistent

    withArticleVIoftheCompetitionRules;(b) ForHCathletesusingwheelchairs,standardracingchairsarerequired.Thestandardracing

    chair requirements are set forth in Section 17.14 of the International TriathlonUnionCompetitionRules;and

    (c) For HC athletes using wheelchairs, an approved helmet is required during the entirewheelchair(run)segmentoftheRace(includinginandoutofthetransitionarea).AnyHCathleteridingwithoutchinstrapfastenedwillbedisqualified.

    ArticleX. RACEOFFICIATINGSection10.01 POWERSOFTHEHEADREFEREETheHeadRefereehasthepowerto:

    (a) To interpretandenforcetheCompetitionRulesandanyotherregulationsorpoliciesofIRONMAN;

    (b) Tosuperviseandcontrolthegeneralconductofallathletes,andtointerveneduringtheRaceatanystagetoensurethattheCompetitionRulesareobserved;

    (c) ToenforcetheCompetitionRulesandimposepenaltiesforviolationsoftheCompetitionRules;

    (d) TomakedecisionswithrespecttoanyRacerelatedsituationbefore,during,and/oraftertheRace(includingsituationsnotspecificallycoveredintheCompetitionRules);

    (e) Toinstruct,direct,assigndutiesto,anddelegateauthoritytoallotherRaceReferees;(f) TooverruleanyJudge,Marshal,orotherRaceOfficialonanypointofinterpretationofthe

    CompetitionRules;(g) Toexaminetheequipmentorotheritemsofanyathleteatanytimetocheckcompliance

    withtheCompetitionRules,andtomakethefinalandbindingdecisionastowhetheranyequipmentorotheritemisimproperorunauthorized;and

    (h) Toestablishallaspectsofprotestprocedures(includingthetimeandplaceofhearing),toimposesanctionsfornoncompliancewithestablishedprocedures,andtoassesspenaltiesinaccordancewiththeresolutionofanyprotests.

    Section10.02 RACEREFEREESRaceRefereeswillfollowallinstructionsoftheHeadReferee.RaceRefereesshallhavejurisdictionoverallpersonsintheirrespectiveareasofassignmentandshallenforcetheseCompetitiveRulesbyreporting,inwriting,violationstotheHeadReferee.Section10.03 HEADTIMERTheHeadTimerisresponsibleforcollectingandprocessingalldatarelevanttothecalculationanddeterminationofofficialRaceresults.
