Our on-court success included: • In 2013, the Sky made history with its first-ever WNBA Playoff appearance. Last season the Sky built on that momentum and became 2014 WNBA Eastern Conference Champions earning their first trip to the WNBA Finals. • Guard, and Chicago native, Allie Quigley earned the WNBA 6th Woman of the Year honor.
• Jessica Breland was named to the WNBA Eastern Conference All-Star team for the first time in her career and Elena Delle Donne was named an All-Star for the second consecutive season.
• This preseason the Sky took their show on the road playing in front of a sold out crowd at Forward Elena Delle Donne’s alma mater, the University of Delaware.
Our off-court success included:• Participating in a service learning project with City Year as part of WNBA Cares week. The entire team, along with Sky staff, spent the day painting murals, sprucing up the playground, landscaping, building benches and picnic tables and creating an outdoor basketball court.
• Donating over 30,000 tickets to 500 nonprofit groups.
• Providing 170 buses to various nonprofits in the Chicagoland area to enjoy games throughout the season.
• Hosting clinics with the Special Olympics led by Sky forward and Special Olympics Global Ambassador Elena Delle Donne. • Honoring 10 high school girls basketball teams through our High School Team of the Week program. After online voting, Glenbrook United was named the Chicago Sky’s 2014 High School Team of the Year.
• Teaming up with Home Depot for a renovation project at Lincoln Park High School. The renovation will include additions to their gymnasium and space for their ROTC program.
• Partnering with the American Cancer Society (ACS) to #GETPINK for our Breast Health Awareness (BHA) Night. Teaming up with Weiss Memorial Hospital we raised over $25,000 for the cause this year.
• Launching Hoops for Health as an interactive assembly school program to inspire and educate future generations to lead a healthy lifestyle.
• Engaging more than 700 youth at the Sky Cares Fitness Festival. Kids participated in basketball, zumba, jump rope, rugby, scooter hockey, football, dance and health & wellness activities prior to watching the Sky game. Participants were also treated to a healthy dinner donated by Jewel. • Teaming up with Polished Pebbles to host a basketball clinic and lesson on Title IX for 50 young girls at UChicago Charter Donoghue Campus as part of National Girls and Women in Sports Day.
• Adopting Moos Elementary School & Hamilton Elementary School through World Sport Chicago’s Athlete Ambassador Program. The Sky visited each school over the course of the school year to undertake health and wellness activities with the students. The Sky also donated tickets to all 25 participating Chicagoland schools in the program.
