Back at our home base in Washington, DC, the Inspired Teaching Demonstration School served

as a site for learning about how to engage students of all backgrounds in powerful, joyful

instruction. Visitors across the city, country, and world – from the DC State Superintendent of

Education to an international conference of leaders in higher education – experienced the impact

of a school where Inspired Teaching is evident in every classroom.

Our thriving residency program for new teachers and changemakers continued its track record of

success: 92% of our Fellows trained through the residency model are still working in classrooms

as teachers, and more than 60% of program graduates have assumed leadership positions at their

schools within their first five years of teaching.

We also completed the first year of a new program, supported by a multi-year grant from the Toyota USA Foundation, to train K-12 science teachers district wide in inquiry-based, Next Generation Science Standards-aligned instruction. This program builds on our organization’s nearly 20 years of experience teaching teachers to elevate student voice and achievement through

innovative training that engages teachers intellectually, emotionally, and physically.

Inspired Teaching’s work won’t be finished until every child has an Inspired Teacher. By expanding our reach and connections with likeminded organizations around the world, we improve our ability to create meaningful, lasting change in the school experience. It’s an exciting time to be involved in education and an even more exciting time to be involved in Inspired

Teaching.

Aleta Margolis, Executive Director Shelley N. Fidley, Board Chair

Dear Supporter of Inspired Teaching,

Over the past year, Inspired Teaching has created new programs, connections, and partnerships

both within the United States and around the world. The need to transform education isn’t limited by county, state, or national borders; students everywhere need school experiences that

prepare them to be creative and empathetic problem solvers, citizens, and leaders, and as Inspired Teaching approaches our 20th Anniversary, we’re better positioned than ever before to influence and lead this global conversation.

This year, Inspired Teaching’s instructional model and theory of change - to Prepare new

teachers for successful and sustainable careers; Shift the practice of inservice teachers; and

Model Inspired Teaching in action - received national and international recognition.

Inspired Teaching was selected as one of the LEGO Foundation and Ashoka Changemakers’ 10 Re-imagine Learning Champions; we were chosen from 632 entries submitted from 63 countries around the world.

Following that achievement, Inspired Teaching’s Real World History program - an innovative citywide course combining academic coursework with internships at historic sites across

Washington, DC - was one of 14 projects from across the United States to win the LRNG Innovation Challenge, sponsored by the National Writing Project in partnership with the MacArthur Foundation and John Legend’s Show Me Campaign.

“This has been the most exhausting yet

have ever been a part of.

This professional development directly

pertains to issues that I deal with on
