    PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Welcome new and returning families to the 2014-15 season of the Albion Park Athletics Centre.

Once again we have managed to put together a quality committee with a mixture of new and experienced people. I sincerely thank all past committee members for their assistance and efforts in keeping our club strong, allowing our athletes the best possible opportunities.

A lot of work has gone into the club over the off season, including

Successfully running the Little Athletics State Cross country and Road walks Championships in partnership with Kembla Joggers.

Finishing the canteen upgrade with the grant money supplied by the State Member for Kiama Gareth Ward.

Welcoming our new sponsor Anytime Fitness Albion Park.

    Continued improvement in management measures.

    Further upgrade to our website.

I look forward to another successful season of athletic development this summer. The objective will be to have all our athletes improve their skills and performances in a challenging, fun and supportive environment. I also urge parents to look at improving their fitness and involvement in physical activity. Our relationships with Anytime Fitness and Kembla Joggers will hopefully help parents enjoy the benefits of movement.

Always remember that the success of our club in the 2014-15 season will be dependent upon the support of the families and friends of our club. Friday night competition runs on the efforts of people setting up and packing up, helping with the canteen and working with age groups as age managers and helpers. This season we are going to instigate a roster for age group managing and canteen helping. This is designed to make the nights run smoother and help everyone to be involved. We are a volunteer organisation, we only need people to help. You don’t need to be experienced or have qualifications. We aim to support each other and make athletics an enjoyable experience for everyone.

Please make the most of your APLAC membership. Athletics allows for everyone to set their own goals, whether you choose to only be involved on Friday night competition or get involved in interclub and representative carnivals. Challenge yourself and have fun.

Welcome and all the best for a successful season of athletics.

    Yours in Sport,

    Patrick McPhillips

    PARENT/COMMUNITY PARTICIPATION

Welcome to Albion Park Little Athletics Centre

As a Committee we are committed to providing a weekly athletics program that is both enjoyable and well organised. To do this successfully we need your help with the following activities:

    - setting up (from 5pm) and packing away each Friday night

    - working in the canteen

    - cooking the BBQ (when required)

    - place judging for track events

    - age management

    - assisting with field events

    - undertaking set duties at representative carnivals your child competes in

Every week we need volunteer parents to manage each age group throughout the night’s competition.

New parents - please put your hand up to help - someone will show you the ropes.

    Results:

Athlete’s results will be displayed on the website. Please refer to the results section to keep track of performances as the season progresses:

    www.APLAC.org.au

    Sponsorship

Welcome to our 2014/15 sponsors Anytime Fitness Albion Park, Dapto Cosmetic and Family Dental Practice and Pinocchio Pizzas Albion Park and Shellharbour City. We are seeking further sponsorship partners. If your business or employer would like to get involved please see the president, Patrick McPhillips.

    PLEASE NOTE:

    1. Competition first call is at 5.15pm for 5.30pm start.

    2. Please sign in your child on the sheet in their age group folder located at the desk from 5pm.

    3. Age groups cannot commence their weekly events until such time as they have an age manager.

    4. Competition cannot commence until equipment for the events is set up.

    5. At all times you are responsible for the supervision of your child/ren. Under no circumstances can your child be left at the ground unless you have prearranged for another parent to supervise them on your behalf. Children found to be unsupervised will not be able to compete until their parent is in attendance.

Thank you in advance for your assistance.

    KEMBLA JOGGERS PARTNERSHIP

OVER 17 AND WANT TO COMPETE ON FRIDAY NIGHTS? Even parents!

Kembla Joggers (KJ’s) open aged athletes can compete at APLA with the U15 – U17’s age group.

KJ’s athletes can compete in any of the set events as per the program for U15 – U17’s.

KJ’s members would be required to purchase and wear a KJ’s singlet and navy blue pants to compete on Friday nights. Registered adult KJ’s athletes are then easily distinguishable from non-competing parents and will be assisting in role modeling uniform compliance.

APLAC parents may join KJ’s and compete on Friday nights at APLAC when their children are competing.

Athletes too old for Little Athletics can now register with KJ’s and still compete on Friday nights with friends and siblings, as well as in KJ’s summer series, track at Beaton Park and winter series.

Athletes still eligible for LA’s membership must join APLAC (KJs juniors cannot run without being APLAC members). Summer only membership of KJ’s is $40 adult, $30 junior and $80 family.

KJ’s family yearly membership allows parents to compete on Friday nights at APLAC and all family members to gain the full benefit of KJs memberships- including the winter and summer point scores and Thursday night track.

Athletes registered with KJ’s will then be eligible for ANSW membership (additional cost for adults, free for children who are members of both APLAC and KJs) allowing them to compete at ANSW events and in adult categories when offered at Little Athletics club carnivals e.g. Lake Illawarra Carnival

APLAC members are invited to take up KJ’s winter season participation as preparation for LA Cross Country Championships in July.

Visit the Kembla Joggers website for more information.

    TRANS-TASMAN TOUR

This year athletes will compete in Australia at Campbelltown Athletics Track on Sunday 18 January 2015.

    Entries close 17 June.

    CANTEEN ROSTER

Three or four people are required to work in the canteen each week. Each age group will be rostered on to supply helpers. This will mean your age group only has to work in the canteen a couple of times over the season. Different parents can help out each time, sharing the load.

The roster starts with the first night and follows down the list for each night we have Friday night competition. Please see the duty roster on the website or beside the canteen.

    AGE MANAGER ROSTER

Each age group requires several parent helpers in order to conduct the events. One of these is the Age Group Manager. The responsibility of organising the Age Group Manager will rotate through the families down the list of registered athletes. If you have multiple children, or are unable to help out on your scheduled night please make arrangements with another parent in your age group to swap. New parents to the club can seek assistance or swap with established parents familiar with this task for the first few weeks.
