MissionOkefenokee Technical College, a unit of the Technical College System of Georgia, educates students through rigorous, learner-centered occupational programs designed to meet the workforce development, literacy, and lifelong learning needs of Southeast Georgia. The College provides college-wide services; associate degree, diploma, and certificate programs; adult education programs; continuing education; and customized business and industry training through traditional and distance delivery formats at on-and off- campus locations.

VisionThe vision of Okefenokee Technical College is that Okefenokee Technical College will be recognized as the leader in and provider of choice for technical education, adult education, business and industry training, continuing education and economic development in the region.

Overview of Okefenokee Technical College Goals

In order to create a skilled local workforce, Okefenokee Technical has established strategic goals and supporting objectives to achieve its mission and to ensure student success. The following goals capture the critical areas of postsecondary education and training provided by Okefenokee Technical College.

GOAL 1 STUDENTS: Promote student success through accessible, high quality education and training which meet the workforce needs of the six county service delivery area.

GOAL 2 STUDENT SUPPORT SERVICES: Promote student success through effective student support services and experiences.

GOAL 3 BUSINESS AND COMMUNITY: Promote economic development through workforce training and partnerships.

GOAL 4 COLLEGE ADVANCEMENT: Improve the visibility, value, and support of technical education, adult education and workforce training for all citizens in Southeast Georgia.

GOAL 5 ACCOUNTABILITY: Maintain a culture of accountability and continuous improvement through an ongoing research-based system of assessment, planning, and budgeting.

GOAL 6 TECHNOLOGY AND INFRASTRUCTURE: Provide well-maintained facilities including technological infrastructure and systems needed to deliver efficient and effective services and information resources, enhancing an optimum learning environment for the campus.

Goal 1 Promote student success through accessible, high quality education and training to meet the workforce needs of the six county service delivery areas.

Objectives1. Establish and evaluate, annually, student learning outcomes to improve student learning.

2. Increase the number of high school, dual enrolled, and ACCEL students.

3. Plan, implement, and evaluate strategies to improve student retention and graduation rates.

4. Increase the number of qualified workers employed or available for employment in Southeast Georgia.

5. Conduct needs assessment of the service delivery area to determine program needs for academic and continuing education.

6. Expand graduate opportunities by increasing program articulation agreements with other higher education institutions.

7. Decrease the time to graduation through a redesign of learning support services.

8. Provide and maintain library/media center support for on-campus, off-campus, and distance program offerings.

Promote student success through effective student support services and experiences.

Objectives1. Increase student involvement by expanding and

promoting student activities.

2. Improve access for special populations.

3. Increase awareness of student support services and facilitate the collaboration of student support services from recruitment to job placement.

4. Increase use of technology to deliver student services consistent with current trends in strategic enrollment management.

5. Improve internal and external customer service.

6. Develop, implement, and evaluate recruitment and retention strategies.

Goal 3 Promote economic development through workforce training and partnerships with the business and community area served.

Objectives1. Provide client-focused, customized solutions and training for new and existing business and industry to

stimulate economic development opportunities.

2. Develop and offer continuing education programs that promote lifelong learning opportunities.

3. Provide certification training and testing that promotes attainment of enhanced credentials in the workforce.

4. Develop community relationships that promote economic development opportunities for local and international business and industry.

5. Promote adult literacy and increase number of GED graduates.

6. Increase GED student and graduate transitions to postsecondary career pathways and employment.

7. Assist communities in establishing and maintaining Certified Literate Community Programs.

4. Provide faculty and staff with ongoing professional development support.

ACCOunTABiliTYGoal 5 Maintain a culture of accountability and continuous improvement

through an ongoing research-based system of assessment, planning, and budgeting

Objectives1. Utilize a web-based software system for assessment, planning and budgeting.

2. Maintain a culture of assessment and accountability to ensure that decisions are data driven to strengthen effectiveness and efficiency of all areas of the College.

3. Participate as a partner in the Complete College Georgia initiative implemented through the Georgia Higher Education Completion Plan, a joint project of the University System of Georgia and the Technical College System of Georgia.

4. Ensure that College policies, procedures and practices are in compliance with external agencies/organizations including the Technical College System of Georgia, the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges, and specialized program accreditation/certification organizations.

Goal 6 Provide well-maintained facilities including technological infrastructure and systems needed to deliver efficient, effective services and information resources, enhancing an optimum learning environment for the campus.

Objectives1. Increase accessibility of electronic data to facilitate effective communication and delivery of services.

2. Enhance campus technology to continually improve the college network infrastructure to streamline processes and improve services.

3. Provide campus-wide technologies and infrastructure to enhance student learning opportunities.

4. Provide safe and secure campuses.

5. Construct new facilities, maintain and renovate current facilities, and maintain campus grounds to meet the needs of current and future students.

6. Develop long range facility plans that support the Technical College System of Georgia’s capital budget requests, ensuring the College maintains world class facilities to enhance student learning.
