Acosta was one of four members from the Boys & Girls Club of Henderson County compeng for the Youth of the Year tle and a $1,000 college aid scholarship provided by Hunter Subaru. Following this local level of recognion, Acosta will go on to compete for the North Carolina Youth of the Year tle and a $5,000 college scholarship from Boys & Girls Clubs of America. In their bid for the tle of Youth of the Year, Acosta, along with fellow candidates Maya Gash, Xzavier Jacobs, and Julius Hooper submied porolios for review including volunteer hours, report cards, and mulple essays. In addion, the four were interviewed by a panel of three judges before presenng a speech to the more than 100 guests in aendance. Volunteer judges included Dr. Laura Leatherwood, President of Blue Ridge Community College; Johnny Johnston, longme supporter and Fazio Golf Tournament commiee member; and, Randy Hunter, Boys & Girls Club Board member and Chairman of Hunter Corporaon. The judges based their decision on the porolios submied, candidate interviews and the final presentaon before the aendees at the luncheon. Weareanorganizationofvolunteersfromtwelvefaith-basedandcivicorganizationsinHendersonCountywhoarecommittedtocookingandservingahotmealto250to300childrenattheBoys&GirlsClubeveryFridayafternoon.Thatisouronlymission.DonationsandGrantspayforthefoodandsupplies.

Our only other need is volunteers. Ifyouagreethatnochildshouldgohungry,considerofferingyourtimeandtalenttothiscause.Wewelcome all volunteers whether they are part of an

organizationoroffertohelpasanindividual.Youdonothavetobeacooktobeavaluableasset to this work. Belowisalistoftalentsandskillsthatwouldbeofgreatvaluetothemissionoffeedingkids.PleasecallIrvKershner(828-489-9569)orSkipGrasser(828-595-1105),ifyouseeagoodfitforyour skills/experience.
