8:15am 9:05am - General Session: MoneyGuidePro: The Future of Advice Delivery

  • Brief Description: Rapid Advances in technology are driving rapid changes in the delivery of advice. As always, change creates both risk and opportunities. This is particularly true for Financial Planning. Its pretty obvious to everyone that Financial Planning has changed in the last ten years, and will certainly continue to change in the future. Whats not as well recognized yet is that these changes are not minor or cosmetic: Financial Planning is changing in more fundamental ways. What constitutes a financial plan, how and when its delivered, who delivers it and, most importantly, the relationship between investor and advisor during the planning process are all rapidly evolving. Account aggregation is everywhere and often free for the investor. Robo-advisors didnt exist two years ago now, a new one raises capital every week. Investors have access to unlimited amounts of new information and on-line tools (much of it of dubious accuracy) and will use them to validate whatever their advisor says. Paying attention to this rapid transition and determining how you should respond to it is important for every firm and every advisor, whether you are currently providing planning services or not. Anticipating and embracing change can greatly benefit your business ignoring it can be costly. Bob will share his observations and opinions about the future of the financial planning universe in general, as well as some of the ways MoneyGuidePro itself will influence that future, and, discuss how your business can benefit from change, rather than be hurt by it.Presenter: Bob Curtis, CEO and Founder

9:10am 10:00am - General Session: RiXtrema: The Future of Risk is Here: Enhance Your Value or Perish

  • Brief Description: Ben Graham said long ago: The essence of investment management is the management of risks, not the management of returns. Portfolio risk modeling is the most computationally data intensive toolkit in the financial industry. Historically it has been available only to large institutions. However, Moores Law (CPU power doubles every two years) ensured that this once exclusive toolkit is already embraced by robo-advisors and rapidly coming to the advisory workstation near you. Daniel Satchkov, President of RiXtrema and former Director of Risk at FactSet, has been the chief architect of stress testing tools now used by 95 out of top 100 investment management firms in the US. He also led the creation of Portfolio Crash Testing, the first stress testing software for advisors and broker-dealers that uses the same exact risk model used by large institutions, but in an advisor-friendly package. Daniel will discuss the latest trends in risk modeling and how they parallel the advances in the field of biotechnology. He will explain how advisors and broker-dealers can use risk management as a crucial value-added tool to respond to increased commoditization of financial advice. The future is here. Enhance your value proposition or perish.
