summer camp -17-Age Restrictions & Parental ResponsibilityCamps are designed by the grade your child completed for the 2013-14 school year. Children enrolling in K4 camps must be the appropriate age and toilet trained on the first day of camp. If there are questions regarding a child’s age, the Recreation Department may ask to see a copy of the child’s birth certificate. It is the responsibility of the parent/guardian or program participant to notify the Recreation Department at the time of the registration process of any medical (physical or psycho-social) condition that requires consideration by the Recreation Department staff. It is necessary to identify these special needs for the concern and safety of the indi-vidual, other participants, and the Recreation Department staff. We will respect your confidentiality. The Recreation Department assumes no responsibility for injuries or ac-cidents occurring at programs or activities. Insurance for such would make program fees prohibitive.

Camp PhilosophyThe Nicolet Recreation Department Summer Camp at the Hills is designed to provide participants with a safe, primarily outdoor, age-appropriate playing and learning op-portunity. Recreational experiences enhance all children’s developmental needs and help create a positive self image through socialization and creativity.

Field TripsCampers will be going on various field trips throughout the summer. The fees for the field trips will be built into reg-istration costs. The children may need extra money on the field trips for lunches, snacks, or activities. Checking the field trip box on the registration form, enables your child to attend. These field trips will be carefully planned and supervised by our staff.

Guest PassesBecause our staff recognizes the importance of attend-ing camp with a friend, guest passes are considered for all campers. Simply complete a form at the camp location, pay the nominal fee of $15.00 and we do everything else.Your child’s guest will get to enjoy the everyday activities that accompany our day camp program. However there are some guidelines and restrictions that must be followed:• Guest pass requests will only be accepted with the com-pleted form and the fee paid in full.• Guest pass requests will only be honored if all fines and fees are up to date.• Guest pass requests will not be accepted for any field trips or special events.• Only one child may accompany your child per day-based on space available.• Guest passes will be accepted after the first week of camp.• Your guest must adhere to all other guidelines set forth by the Nicolet Recreation Department.

LocationThe Nicolet Recreation Department in cooperation with the Nicolet High School District strives to provide the optimum facility for summer camp at Glen Hills Middle School. Not only do we utilize the school, its swimming pool and out-door grounds, but also local parks and businesses.

Lunches & SnacksCampers may sign up for the 12:00-1:00pm lunch session only during the 5-week camp that runs immediately after the school district’s Summer Academy. Campers must bring a lunch each day. Lunches will not be provided by the Recreation Department. All campers are encouraged to bring drinks and snacks.

Americans With DisabilitiesNicolet Recreation Department programs, activities, and services are subject to the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as well as to all applicable laws regarding nondis-crimination. If you or someone you know has a disability and is interested in attending or participating in the Recre-ation Department programs, activities, or services, the Ni-colet Recreation Department will make reasonable accom-modations to facilitate that opportunity. Please contact the Recreation Department as soon as it is practicable before the program start date.

Typical DayWhen campers are not swimming or participating on field trips, camp counselors lead their grade in arts & crafts, sports, games, and other fun-filled summer activities. Parents will receive a calendar detailing each day’s events upon registration.

Anystudent currently enrolled in or attending Nicolet HighSchool or any public/private elementary and middle school in the communities of Bayside, River Hills, Fox Point, or Glendale at the time of participation. The Nicolet Recreation Department reserves the right to make the final determination on residency using the above criteria.

StaffThe Nicolet Recreation Department continues to attributethe success of the camp to a carefully selected and well-trained staff. Most adult counselors have degrees in educa-tion or related fields. Over 3/4 of the 2013 evaluations rated the staff as doing an excellent job. Our 2013 camp staff was considered enthusiastic and mature. Many will be returning for the 2014 Summer Camp - building on years of experience. Camp at the Hills Director, Lisa Vondra, a DPI Licensed Professional Educator along with two assistant directors, encourage guidance and leadership to both camp-ers and staff.

Photograph PolicyThe Nicolet Recreation Department uses photos of partici-pants in its bulletins and special ads to inform othersof our recreational opportunities. We do not use nameidentifications. Pick-ups and Drop-offsThe Camp at the Hills staff puts in long hours planning, or-ganizing, and implementing the camp. Please pick up yourchild from camp at the scheduled time. In previous years this has been a problem. To help eliminate the problem, we will be assessing a late fee penalty for delinquent parents. For every ten minutes a parent is delinquent a $10.00 late fee will be assessed and is to be paid before the camperreturns to camp. For example, if a camper is scheduled tobe picked up at 4:00pm and the parent arrives at 4:25pm,a $25.00 late fee will be assessed. We need to stringently adhere to this policy to ensure the safety and welfare of ev-eryone. I will always be grateful to him for that."--Kirk Kychowiak, Nicolet Athletic & Recreation Director

Estate and Financial Planning for Peace of Mind

Everyone, regardless of age, wealth, or family situation should have an estate plan. Wills, trusts, and beneficiary planning provide necessary direction and continuity when passing on your assets and administering your estate after death. Naming guardians for minor children and the related legal and financial considerations to protect their interests are significant issues as well. Estate planning also should address during-life issues such as health care directives, financial powers of attorney, and proper financial planning for your long-term needs. During these “café” meetings we will reconnect with our innate wisdom through first reading together in a text of our choice, and then sharing questions and discussing philosophically. Symbols and experiences will also be shared and discussed. Lacrosse – “Old Man” and Father/Son LacrosseHave you wanted to learn how to play lacrosse? Do you have a son who plays lacrosse and thought, “That looks like a lot of fun”? This is a recreational lacrosse program geared towards the “old man” (over 30) lacrosse player or fathers and sons who want to play lacrosse together. New and experienced adult players are welcome to participate in a non-body check game (we all want to go to work the next day). For the adults, no lacrosse experience is required to participate, just a desire to learn and play lacrosse. Or if you have not picked up a stick in ten years and want to dust off your cleats, this is for you! The boys must have at least one year of competitive lacrosse play, be rising 7th-9th graders and be accompanied by their father or male guardian who is playing. Get ready for a workout. Full men’s equipment is required. Helmets and limited lacrosse equipment are available.

PickleballYes, PICKLEBALL – the fun game with the funny name! Created in the backyard of Washington Congressman Joel Pritchard in 1965, it is a combination of badminton, tennis and table tennis, and is enjoyed by people of all ages. Using a badminton-sized court, tennis-height net, table tennis-type paddle, and a baseball-sized wiffle ball, usually played by doubles, this game has few rules and is far less strenuous than tennis. It is easy to learn and provides plenty of exercise and eye-hand coordination; a game of strategy for both men and women, you don’t have to be tall and powerful. Want to watch a video? Go to USAPA.org, click on link to “What is Pickleball?” REGISTER for the LIMITED ATTENDANCE FREE CLINIC to learn the game, or we invite you to sit in on any open court session to see if you’d like it.*Pickleball participants must purchase a punch card in the Recreation Office (Monday – Friday - 8am – 4pm) for $30 for resi-dents/$40 for non-residents which is good for 10 plays for either Thursdays or Saturdays.
