Thank you for your interest in learning more about job opportunities available at one of the country’s most “amazing” zoos, the Detroit Zoo. In this packet, you will learn more about the Job Fair scheduled for Sunday, March 16 at 9:00am. Also, we have provided an itinerary for the event for you and your parents to use. If you are wondering about the different positions available to you, please refer to the job description of each department below.

WHO WE AREIn partnership with the Detroit Zoo, Service Systems Associates manages the food service, retail and custodial departments of the park. We continually strive to provide our guests with the best customer service possible. In pursuing this, we expect that each of our employees maintain a positive attitude while working in a friendly, team-oriented environment. Each employee contributes to the “Wild” experience our guests encounter.

We are looking for students that can work during spring break and will employ these students first. Other qualified candidates with restricted availability will be considered for summer employment. All positions require availability on weekends and holidays; continuous standing and movement in a fast-paced environment while in various weather conditions; the ability to work well under pressure and a dedication to customer service. If you are offered a position, you will be employed with Service Systems Associates, not the Detroit Zoological Society.

INTERVIEWThe interview process is designed to sort through the applicants to find great candidates. This is your chance to impress our managers. We suggest you dress accordingly fora job interview and have a resumer readily available.

JOB OPPORTUNITIESCulinary: Primary duties include providing great customer service, preparing food and drinks, and maintaining sanitary standards. Workers will be trained and knowledgeable in areas including proper food safety, rotation of product and preparation.

Retail: Primary duties include operating cash registers and credit card machines, stocking and cleaning gift shops, and providing general zoo information to visitors.

Cashiers: The applicant should possess good mathematic and cash handling skills. Duties include operating cash registers and credit card machines, greeting customers and answering general questions. Positions may include additional duties as requested.

Grounds/Custodial: Primary duties include canvassing park grounds and disposing of trash, detailed cleaning restrooms and buildings. Ability to lift 25 lbs. and attention todetail with minimal supervision.

Other positions available in Catering, Warehouse and Main Office.

PARENTS:DROP-OFF POINT: Enter through the main visitor gate on Ten Mile Rd.

Turn left into the Ten Mile parking lot. You will be directed to the Ford Education Center. Registration starts promptly at 8:30am. We do not accept late arrivals.

PICK-UP: The job fair will end at 3:30pm. Your child will be waiting for pick up at the same location as the drop off point.

ITINERARYPlease dress accordingly to the weather. You will be outside while taking a tour of the park.NOTE: The job fair is only open to high school students.Parents are urged to drop off and pick up their student at the designated times below.
