them, erased them and revised them, until they

were ready for prototyping. We hold our designs

in our laps, literally, as they take shape and come

to life. The final stages, where they become things

you will use on the road and trail, are wonders

of modern engineering and fabrication. But the

beginning is by hand. Before anyone puts them

on, we put our heart, our heads, and more than

anything, our hands, into everything we make.

Why mention this? Because what we’re after when

we roll out on a ride may be a little different for

each one of us, but what brings us together is

exactly the same: late nights spent dreaming, early

mornings spent tinkering, lunch hours on the bike,

and long rides to the places we love.

THE MOST ADVANCED TOOLS WE CAN GET OUR HANDS ON: OUR HANDSProgress is a funny thing. Sometimes, the more

you push to create a faster helmet or a lighter

shoe, the closer you get to where you started. The

latest technology and most advanced materials

are still just tools. What brings them together and

unlocks their power are the people who love them,

and love what they can do with them. We’re proud

of our facilities—from 3D printers to an in-house

wind tunnel to a world class testing facility—

and they are a crucial part of how we build our

products. But the most amazing part of the

process is not the complex design software we use

or our expensive equipment. The most impressive

tools are also the most common and recognizable:

hands. Callused and creased, often ink-stained and

usually caffeinated, the hands of Giro are our most

valuable asset.

From the earliest days of cycling helmet design and engineering, ventilation meant one thing: To create a cooler helmet, you had to have a lot of holes. This is a logical approach, but it’s limiting—it quickly reaches a compromise between protective capability and cooling. We’re interested in moving beyond both convention and its compromises.

Jim Gentes, our founder, didn’t just believe in challenging conventional wisdom, he was willing to invest in his ideas and see where they could lead. He worked with contacts at NASA to fine-tune the original Prolight™ helmet, and he invested $100,000 in the early ’90s to build the original Therminator™ head form to study how helmets actually cooled the head. Today,

With the debut of the Remedy™ full-face helmet in 2005, we highlighted the ASTM F1952 standard for downhill mountain biking because it was the first bicycle helmet standard to outline criteria for the chinbar to help manage impacts around the jawline. We felt this was an important evolution in the design and performance of full-face bicycle helmets, especially for riders who push their limits on the trail.

For 2014, we’re combining the benefits of full-face coverage with a material that can redefine the way bicycle helmet cushioning works: Vinyl Nitrile (VN). Unlike expanded polystyrene (EPS) or expanded polypropylene (EPP) foams, VN

IN FORM FIT SYSTEMThe In Form™ system is a low-profile fit and stability system that makes it easy to dial-in the fit and feel of your helmet in seconds – even with gloves on. An ergo-friendly dial at the base of the helmet provides up to 6 cm of fit adjustment, and the system also includes a separate vertical turning feature that adjusts the fore / aft tilt of the helmet on your head to enhance peripheral vision and optimize the fit of the helmet with goggles.

ACU DIAL FIT SYSTEMThe original Acu Dial™ system combines the ease of single-handed fit tension adjustment with a full 360° fit band for a quick, stable fit in our line of Universal Fit™ helmets. It’s also ponytail-compatible, for riders with longer hair.

ROC LOC® 5 FIT SYSTEMThe industry benchmark in comfort, stability, adjustability and weight savings. Using a patented design that suspends the helmet just slightly off the top of the skull, Roc Loc® allows cool airflow to pass directly over your head, further enhancing the performance of vents and internal channeling that exhaust heat out of the helmet. Fit and feel adjustments mimic the Roc Loc® 5, allowing you to easily custom tune fit tension and fore-aft tilt of the helmet in seconds using a single hand. It’s the new standard in cool comfort.

P.O.V. VISORPoint Of View™ visors are anchored by a patented internal clutch mechanism that allows 15-degrees of tool-free, on-the-fly vertical adjustment while preventing the visor from rattling and coming loose over rough and technical terrain. They’re also easily removed without tools.

HARD SHELL CONSTRUCTIONHard shell construction is the traditional method of combining a durable, molded outer shell with an im-pact-absorbing EPS foam liner. By molding the shell separately from the helmet’s liner we can optimize the shell material, thickness and finish to create helmets that are tough yet stylish, and ideally suited to the style of riding they’re built for.

X-STATIC® PADDINGX-Static padding contains a fiber made with layers of pure silver that is permanently woven into the fabric. Silver has 100% natural anti-microbial performance that helps to reduce odor and regulate heat, so your helmet stays fresh and comfortable, naturally.

ROC LOC® TT FIT SYSTEMWhen every second counts, Roc Loc® TT system offers a faster fit to speed you through transitions. The set-and-forget positioning feature creates a self-adjusting fit with secure feel, and helps to improve aerodynamics by allowing back of the helmet to be closed off to the wind. WOMEN’S SERIES The Women’s Series™ is a diverse collection of helmet styles, fits and prices tailored to the demands of fe-male riders. While the level of detail and range of colors is unique within the Women’s Series helmets, they do not feature a unique “women’s fit”. That’s because there is no anatomic difference between women and men’s heads except for the average skull diameter measurement. And since Giro helmet sizes cover 98% of the human population, we believe the Women’s Series offers more options to women than any other brand.

FIT KITOur Fit Kit™ pad system allows you to adjust the fit of your helmet in just a few seconds, without any tools. Giro’s best cycling shoes, the Prolight™ SLX, Empire™ and Factor™ are known for being exceptionally comfortable and efficient, thanks in part to their innovative carbon fiber outsoles. Developed with industry-leading composites experts at Easton®, we’ve upped the ante for 2014 with a new generation of carbon

fiber outsoles called Easton® ACC (Advanced Carbon Concept) that redefine best-in-class performance.

Built for riders focused on getting maximum uphill performance from minimalist design, our new Prolight™ SLX II shoe features an updated Easton EC90™ SLX II carbon sole. With a new asymmetric design and Easton®’s proprietary high-modulus unidirectional carbon fiber, it’s 15 grams lighter than our previous SLX sole at the same stiffness, all while maintaining a true flat edge that doesn’t wrap up against the foot like so-called “bathtub” designs. Its ultra-thin 6.5mm profile

yields a minimal stack height, and features titanium hardware and replaceable heel pads for enhanced durability.

Designed to perform across a range of rider styles, from sprinting to climbing and time trialing, the Easton® EC90™ ACC unidirectional carbon sole on our new Factor™ ACC and Empire™ ACC shoes is a fine tuned blend of peak stiffness and efficiency. It utilizes a new asymmetric design with

I-beam construction for added torsional stiffness and a 30 percent increase in longitudinal stiffness over our previous EC90 outsole. Like our other outsole designs, it features a flat edge profile to enhance comfort and an ultra-thin 6.5mm profile for minimal stack height, as well as replaceable heel pads, for enhanced durability to last through the seasons.

It doesn’t matter how advanced a modern cycling shoe is if it doesn’t fit well. While there are many ways to close a shoe, the ratcheting buckle is the standard, and for good reason. Simple and intuitive, it’s easy to maintain and provides excellent adjustment. But buckles are also easily damaged by impacts with rocks or crashes, and the incremental adjustment of many buckles is not as customizable as closures like laces or straps.

We wanted a better buckle. So we set out to make it. We wanted all the familiar traits of well-designed buckles, but with improved adjustment and a reduced likelihood of damage. After almost two years of design and development, we’re proud to introduce the new MR-1 and MR-2 buckles.

The patent-pending MR-1 buckle is truly micro-adjustable in tension and release, allowing two-way adjustment in 2mm increments by simply pulling up to tighten the strap or depressing the lever to release it. At the same time, its design allows grit to be cleared easily for reliable

function on and off-road. The MR-1 also has an exceptionally low stack height—almost 7mm lower than our previous buckle design, reducing the likelihood of damage. We’ve even created base plates offering two mounting positions to improve the buckle’s integration with different shoe designs and foot shapes.

We could make bicycles, or wheels, or any of the many things that go along with riding. We choose, though, to focus on the rider. Giro exists to enhance the rider’s experience, and by putting all of our knowledge and resources into the things you wear and the pieces that connect you to the bicycle, we can go deeper into the details, and truly create things that enhance your connection to the pedals and to the freedom that riding brings.

When we launched our line of cycling shoes four years ago,

we made a commitment to be more than just another shoe on the shelf. We aimed to lead the market by focusing on fit, performance and style. Since then, our line has been defined by innovative performance features like SuperNatural Fit, adjustable arch support, Easton® carbon outsoles, proprietary Vibram® rubber outsoles, X-Static® fibers and more. But there is always room to improve, especially in the details.

Currently, many cycling shoes use a pattern of mesh panels, microfiber and other materials to

create the shoe’s upper. Though functional, the ultimate material for a cycling shoe would be a single fabric that’s supple yet doesn’t stretch, waterproof yet breathable, and able to be tuned in structure and thickness for the best balance of fit, weight and durability. It would keep you comfortable in both heat and cold, and eliminate the excess seams, adhesives and components that can add weight and compromise comfort.

That material exists. It’s called Evofiber™, and it’s available in select Giro shoes for 2014.

Evofiber™ takes the best attributes of mesh and microfiber, and fuses them into a single fabric that repels water and improves breathability throughout the shoe. By eliminating the extra seams and adhesives required to insert mesh panels, the durability, comfort and weight of our shoes can all be dramatically improved. Evofiber™ also holds shape exceptionally well, and is fast drying and easy to clean.

While many companies utilize this cutting-edge ma-terial, we have the added advantage of having Easton® engineering expertise to further enhance the capabilities of this wonder material, allowing us to create thinner, lighter and stronger components.

For more than 200 years, DuPont has brought world-class science and engineering to innovative products, materials and services. DuPont nylon, including Zytel™ nylon, is a versatile performance material that can be tuned to meet a wide range of performance needs. It’s tough, light and surprisingly resilient in a variety of con-ditions and environments, with excellent performance levels that are maintained much longer than traditional nylons.

EASTON® ENGINEERED OUTSOLE PLATESWe worked closely with the engineering staff at Easton to develop proprietary outsoles that provide the most direct, powerful connection to the pedals without compromising comfort. Using advanced modeling and proprietary fixturing in our extensive test lab, every outsole is engineered to provide ideal stiffness in 3 zones: Toe, Arch, and Heel, while main-taining the lowest possible weight and stack-height (as low as 6.5mm). Additionally, the flatter edges of our outsoles allow the shoe upper material to conform to larger or wider feet (what we call the “spillover” effect) without uncomfort-able pinching or binding.

HIGH-VOLUME FITGiro “HV” footwear is built on proprietary, cycling-specific lasts that are specially designed to create a fit that hugs wider or higher-volume feet closely without binding, crowding or discomfort. In order to provide the most supportive and precise fit possible, our HV lasts are hand-crafted in whole and half-sizes too, so you get the best fit possible in a production shoe. Giro HV fit is recommended for widths from D-EE, and is an option for feet with very high instep.

PRECISION FITGiro footwear is built on proprietary cycling-specific lasts to create a fit that hugs the foot closely without binding, crowding or discomfort. Our lasts are hand-crafted specifically for cycling footwear in whole and half-sizes that are differentiated between men’s and women’s shoes, in order to provide the most supportive and precise fit possible in a production shoe.

WOMEN’S SERIES The Women’s Series™ is a complete collection of fits, styles and prices that are uniquely tailored to female riders. Each Women’s Series shoe is available with a level of detail that is unique within the line, and also fea-tures specific sizing and patterning in order to support the lower volume and narrower heel of a woman’s foot. The one thing that isn’t different is the level of performance since we use the same top-quality materials and technologies found in our premium men’s shoes. All together, we believe the Women’s Series offers a range of options that suit nearly any need, and with more compelling styles than competing brands.

X-STATIC® FIBERS X-Static fibers are made with layers of pure silver that are permanently bonded to the surface of the fabric. Silver offers 100% natural anti-microbial performance that helps to reduce odor and regulate heat, so your feet stay fresh and comfortable, naturally.

NEUTRAL PLATFORMThe term Neutral Platform means that there is no tilt or permanent adjustment built-in to our shoes. By maintaining a neutral platform, riders who require wedges or other adjustments are free to choose from a variety of systems that best meet their needs over time, without having to compensate for unnecessary or improper adjustments that can compromise the fit or performance of their shoes, or cause stress to muscles or joints.

SUPERNATURAL FIT SYSTEM The Giro SuperNatural Fit System combines a cycling-specific footbed with an adjustable arch support kit. The system was developed with input from riders and cycling biomechanics experts, including Retül, the fitter of choice for teams like Garmin-Cervelo® and RadioShack®, among others. By simply choosing from any of the Low, Medium and High arch supports included in the kit, riders and fitters can independently adjust arch support to enhance fit and pedaling efficiency while reducing or eliminating common discomforts like hotspots, numbness and cramping. The system is available in men’s and women’s sizes, and incorporates X-Static® fibers in the footbed to fight odors and other bacteria.

SONIC WELDED ARMOR Sonic welding is a process that uses sonic waves and pressure to fuse two elements together permanently. Utilizing this process to add a layer of armor to soft fabrics results in a more durable bond that is also cleaner and more accurate than traditional adhe-sives, and lighter too.

PORON® XRD™ Poron XRD is a soft, shock-absorbing material specifically engineered to absorb up to 90% of impact energy, without a loss of performance from repeated impacts. Using “intelligent molecules”, Poron® XRD™ remains sup-ple and flexible until impacted, when the molecules lock together immediately to deflect and help absorb shock. DO HELMETS REALLY WORK?Modern helmets practically dis-appear when you put one on, and they are the most effective means of preventing, and reducing the severity of, cycling-related head injuries (anywhere from 45-85% of the most commonly reported brain injuries for cyclists).

HOW DO HELMETS WORK?When you fall or crash and hit your head, the helmet’s EPS foam liner compresses like an airbag to absorb energy, so that the brain doesn’t move around the inside of the skull with as much force. By absorbing energy during the imact, a helmet reduces the likelihood of the most common brain injuries, such as concussions and hemorrhaging.

WHAT DOES THE OUTER SHELL DO?The outer shell serves three main purposes:

1. Helps to distribute impact energy.

2. Helps to protect against penetration by sharp objects.

3. Helps to protect the impact- absorbing liner from abrasions and knocks during day-to-day use that could compromise its performance in the event of a crash.

WHAT DOES THE INTERIOR LINER DO?The helmet’s liner helps to prevent or reduce brain injury by absorb-ing some of the energy generated by an impact through its own compression or destruction - much like an airbag used in automobiles. By absorbing some of the impact energy, the brain does not move and bounce around inside the skull with as much force, reducing the likelihood and severity of injuries.

WHAT IS THE LINER MADE OF?We use EPS (Expanded Poly- Styrene) in most Giro helmets for three reasons:

1. Gram for gram, EPS is the most efficient material when it comes to absorbing impact energy. This allows us to make lighter hel-mets that can reduce fatigue and improve comfort compared to a heavier helmet.

STEP 1 - Sizing a Helmet CorrectlyTo determine the correct size, you should measure the circumference of the head. To do this, just wrap a measuring tape around the head, keeping the tape just above the ears and level front to back.

Once you’ve determined the correct size, you can check to make sure the helmet fits comfortably and securely. If the helmet doesn’t fit on your head with just a little room between your head and the head-band when the fit system is loose, you should replace it with one that does. You should always wear the helmet positioned low enough in the front to protect your forehead, but not so low that it hinders your vision.

STEP 2 - Adjusting the Straps at the Side of the HelmetWith a proper fit, the front and rear straps should join at a point slightly below the ears.

To adjust the strap positioning, open the Tri Loc™ adjusters on the straps, put the helmet on and slide the straps through the adjusters until they are located comfortably under the ears. Make sure there is no slack in any of the straps. Then, close and lock the Tri Loc™ adjusters.

2. EPS is relatively unaffected by temperature and weather, and therefore offers more consistent performance whether you ride in warm or cold conditions, wet or dry.

3. EPS often shows signs like cracking or compression when damaged, making it easier to see that the helmet has been compro-mised and should be replaced.

WHAT DO THE STRAPS AND FIT SYSTEM DO?Giro helmets use a combination of straps and an adjustable “fit system” to fit the helmet comfort-ably and securely to the wearer’s head. By creating a more secure and comfortable fit, these retention systems help to keep the helmet properly positioned and stable on the wearer’s head, and can help prevent the helmet from coming off during a crash.

HOW ARE HELMETS MADE?Most cycling helmets are made with three basic components, using either an “In-Mold” process or “in-jection molded” Hardshell process. The basic materials are:

1. A tough outer shell (usually poly-carbonate, ABS plastic or laminated fiber like carbon fiber)

2. An impact absorbing interior lin-er material (usually EPS or similar foam)

3. An adjustable fit / retention / stability system with straps (like our Roc Loc® systems)

WHAT IS IN-MOLD CONSTRUCTION?Models like the Aeon™ and Xar™ are made by fusing the outer shell and the inner, impact-absorbing foam liner together permanently using pressure and steam in a mold. This often creates a lighter helmet because the shell reinforces the foam like a skin, eliminating extra adhesives and hardware, and allowing the use of a thinner polycarbonate shell.

WHAT IS INJECTION-MOLDED HARDSHELL CONSTRUCTION?Models like the Flak™ and Sur-face™ feature a pre-molded plastic

STEP 3 - Adjusting the Chinstraps and BuckleIt is important that the chinstrap is comfortably snug and sits back against the throat, NOT on the point of the chin. It should be snug enough to prevent rolling-off, but loose enough so that the rider is able to open their mouth wide enough to eat.

Make sure the loose ends of the strap pass through the rubber O-ring near the buckle. If it does not, the strap may slide loose and the helmet can come off acciden-tally.

STEP 4 - Adjusting the Circumfer-ence of the Fit Stabilizing SystemA helmet should fit snugly on the wearer’s head, so that the skin on the forehead moves slightly when the helmet is moved back and forth. It should not cause a head-ache or be uncomfortably tight.

To adjust the fit tension of Roc Loc® or Acu Loc™ systems while the helmet is on the wearer’s head, rotate the dial adjuster on the back of the system to tighten or loosen the fit as needed.

OVERVIEW OF CYCLING HELMET SAFETY STANDARDSHelmet standards help to govern the design and integrity of helmets so that riders get products that are well-designed for the type of riding they enjoy. All cycling helmets should be certified to the most relevant standards for the type of riding the wearer is participating in, and must be certified for the market they’re sold in. Here’s a simple breakdown of 3 key standards:

U.S. STANDARDS

CPSC – the U.S. federal gov-ernment’s standard for cycling helmets. All cycling helmets sold in the U.S. must comply with the CPSC standard.

ASTM F1952-09 – a voluntary standard specific to helmets for downhill MTB riding that requires a lower test line to help manage falls most commonly associated with more advanced off-road riding.

EUROPEAN UNION STANDARDS

CE EN-1078 – the European Union standard for cycling helmets. All helmets sold in European Union must meet a CE standard for pro-tective equipment.

AUSTRALIAN / NEW ZEALAND STANDARDS

AS / NZS 2063 – the Australian standard for cycling helmets. All helmets sold in Australia must meet a government standard for protec-tive equipment.

You can determine which standard a Giro helmet meets by looking at the box label and on the label inside the helmet.

It is important to note that no one standard is superior to the others.

To adjust the fit tension of Auto Loc™ systems you must remove the helmet, and move the snap anchor forward or back to adjust the fit as needed.

For safety reasons, we recommend that you do not attempt to adjust the fit of a helmet while you are riding.

Step 5 - Adjusting the Height of the Fit Stabilizing System (not a feature of all systems)You can adjust the fit even more on Roc Loc® and Acu Loc™ systems that offer height adjustment, which allows the helmet’s fore/aft tilt to be optimized. Simply slide the sys-tem’s occipital pads (at the back of the helmet) up or down for comfort and best coverage. Experiment until you get a fit that is most comfort-able.

Step 6 - Checking the FitOnce you think a proper fit has been achieved, grab the helmet with both hands and twist lightly it to the left and right. If the hel-met fits properly, the skin on the forehead will move as the helmet moves. If it does not, the helmet is too loose.

They all cover many aspects of a helmet’s design, performance and certification, and they all have merit. However, the helmet you buy must be certified for sale and use in the market where it is purchased. Also note that if a helmet doesn’t fit properly, it’s less effective, regard-less of the standard the helmet is designed to.

WHAT IS A “MULTI-IMPACT” HELMET?Some helmets are referred to as “multi-impact”. There are two rea-sons why we do not claim that Giro cycling helmets are “multi-impact”:

1. No cycling helmet, regardless of the liner material or construction method used, can offer unlimited multiple-accident protection.

2. There is no way to predict how hard you might hit your head the next time you fall, so we believe that it is best to wear a helmet that has not been impacted previously.

The bottom line is that if a helmet is involved in any serious impact, it should be inspected and replaced in case of any doubt, even if it appears undamaged.

HOW TO CREATE A GREAT, COM-FORTABLE FITProper fit is essential to perfor-mance and comfort. A helmet must fit right and be worn properly in or-der to be effective. To offer the best fit and match for the body’s size and proportion, Giro makes helmets in a wide range of sizes:

Next, grab the helmet with both hands and try to remove it by roll-ing the helmet forward and back-ward. THIS IS IMPORTANT. If you can roll it off the head completely, roll it forward so far that it blocks vision, or backward far enough to expose the forehead, it doesn’t fit correctly.

If you cannot adjust the helmet to fit properly according to these instructions, DO NOT USE THE HELMET. Replace it with a different size or model.

Once you are satisfied that the helmet fits correctly and that all straps are properly adjusted, take a short test ride. Make any minor adjustments to improve comfort and stability.

WHAT ABOUT FIT FOR WOMEN?While it is obvious that anatomical differences between men and wom-en can dictate different design and fit for items worn on the body, the head is somewhat unique. Scien-tific analysis indicates that there is no significant difference in the skull shape, location of skull features or the scale of the ears, eyes and nose, between men and women. So we do not create “women’s fit” helmets. Instead, we offer a range of Women’s Series™ helmets in multiple sizes that provide every bit of the performance and value you expect from a Giro helmet, with attention to styling and detail that women appreciate.

HOW CAN I KEEP A HELMET CLEAN?Helmets are made of materials that can be damaged by many common cleaners. Petroleum-based solvents or cleaners are especially danger-ous. For best results, clean the helmet using a soft cloth or sponge, warm water and mild soap (such as a mild dish soap).

HOW SHOULD I STORE A HELMET?Excessive heat can damage the helmet (Heat damaged helmets will appear to have uneven or bubbly surfaces). After each use allow the helmet to air dry and then store in a cool, dry place. If you have any questions as to the condition of a helmet please call us for informa-tion or to set up a free inspection.

CAN I PAINT MY HELMET?We strongly advise against painting, stickering or otherwise modifying a helmet because these modifica-tions can damage the helmet and/or reduce its protective capabili-ties. These actions can also void warranty.

WHAT IF THE HELMET IS DAMAGED?Helmets don’t last forever. Damage to a helmet is not always visible. If a helmet is visibly damaged (cracked outer shell, crushed or cracked foam liner or any other damage) don’t use it. Some or all of the helmet’s protective capacity is used up when impacted. If you have any questions about the con-dition of a helmet, call us for infor-mation or to get a free inspection.

HOW OFTEN SHOULD A HELMET BE REPLACED?Giro has a general recommendation of replacing a helmet every three (3) years. If you have any questions as to the condition of your helmet please call us for information or to set up a free inspection.

WHAT KIND OF WARRANTY DOES GIRO OFFER?Any Giro helmet determined by Giro to be defective in materials or workmanship within one (1) year from the date of original purchase will be repaired or replaced, at Giro’s option, free of charge when received at the factory freight prepaid, together with proof of purchase. WHAT IS DIFFEREENT ABOUT GIRO FOOTWEAR?A lot. But the most important difference is our fit.

Fit is more than a set of numbers, it’s a feeling. That is why we believe in providing cycling shoes that combine a cycling-specific fit with a neutral platform (no varus or valgus adjustment built-in) and a range of sizes and styles that allow adjustments based on every rider’s individual needs.

HOW DO GIRO SHOES FIT COMPARED TO OTHER BRANDS?Giro cycling shoes are designed for a precise fit – one that is snug and supportive in the heel, mid-foot, and instep areas, with a little more volume in the forefoot and toe box for natural feel and comfort. We offer our shoes in a full range of sizes, includ-ing Women’s Fit and High Volume Fit (for wide feet and high insteps) and half-sizes in most models. (See page 128 for complete footwear size conversion charts.)

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN MEN’S FIT AND WOMEN’S FIT?Giro Women’s Fit shoes have a lower instep volume, a lower forefoot girth and a narrower heel than our men’s / unisex shoes.

DOES GIRO OFFER SHOES FOR EXTRA WIDE FEET OR VERY HIGH INSTEPS?Yes. We offer 5 models (Gauge™ HV, Privateer™HV, Factor HV ACC, Trans™HV and Apeckx™HV) in our “HV” fit to accommodate riders with extra wide (up to EE width) feet, or very high instep heights. The difference between our standard fit and our HV fit is that the girth of the upper from the forefoot to the instep is larger, and the straps are longer to allow proper fit adjustment. The outsole plate is not different, only the upper.

- Very thin 6.5 mm stack height maintains a natural feel with the bike, and a direct connection with the pedal for maximum efficiency.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN THE DIFFERENT OUTSOLES?

Easton EC90 SLX ACC is 100% uni-directional carbon with high modulus fibers. It is our lightest, highest level of performance and also features titanium cleat hardware inserts.

Easton EC90 ACC is made of 100% unidirectional carbon. It has pro-level stiffness similar to the EC90 SLX ACC outsole, but is slightly heavier.

Easton EC70 carbon composite outsoles are a blend of carbon and fi-berglass. They are light and stiff with performance and value that exceeds many carbon outsoles.

DuPont® Zytel™ outsoles are made of a special nylon composite that is stiffer and more durable that traditional nylon outsoles. Our Zytel soles are not as stiff as our premium carbon or composite outsoles, but they offer class-leading performance with less weight.

Our basic nylon composite outsoles are made of a high-quality nylon composite that offers great per-formance and value, while taking advantage of the same carefully-en-gineered molds as our higher-end DuPont nylon soles.

Vibram® MegaGrip™ outsoles use an engineered rubber compound de-veloped for great grip on a variety of surfaces, with the durability needed to resist breaking down quickly from the pins on flat pedals.

Vibram® HydraGrip™ outsoles feature a proprietary rubber compound developed for exceptional grip on a variety of surfaces, especially in slippery conditions, with hard-wear-ing durability.

Vibram® Mont™ outsoles use a tried-and-true formulation that is known for exceptional durability with great grip on a variety of outdoor surfaces.

ARE GIRO SHOES HEAT-MOLDABLE?No. Every Giro shoe is made with a tailored upper that hugs the foot naturally and is supple enough to wrap to the contours of your foot for a supportive, precise fit without heating.

WILL GIRO SHOES WORK WITH CUSTOM ORTHOTICS?Every Giro shoe is made to accom-modate a wide variety of footbeds, as well as internal and external wedge adjustments and some custom orthotics. That said, orthotics vary widely, and we cannot guarantee a good fit. We recommend that you consult with your orthopedist or a fit expert to evaluate the fit and your best options.

WHAT IS THE SUPERNATURAL FIT SYSTEM?The SuperNatural Fit system com-bines a thin, cycling specific footbed with an adjustable arch support system. This system allows riders to custom-tune their arch support and fit right out of the box, without any tools or hassles. By properly supporting the arch, fit and comfort of cycling shoes is enhanced and common discomforts like hotspots, numbness and cramping are reduced or eliminated. Proper arch support can also improve pedaling power and efficiency on the bike.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF SUPERNATURAL FIT?Low-profile, cycling-specific footbeds support the entire foot and accom-modate a wide range of internal and external fit adjustments. They also keep the rider’s heel locked down in the shoe and minimize stack height to the pedal, for efficient power transfer.

Using a heater, radiator, camp-fire, blow dryer or other heat source to dry your shoes can damage them and void warranty.- If shoes become wet, you can stuff them with newspaper to help absorb moisture and maintain shape. In most cases newspaper will dry wet shoes overnight.

HOW DO I DETERMINE THE AMOUNT OF ARCH SUPPORT I NEED?With adjustable SuperNatural Fit Kit footbeds, you can choose from the three different arch supports to customize the fit and feel of your shoes. We generally recommend that you use a level of arch support that most closely matches to the contours of your arches or the footbed of your existing cycling shoes, and provides you with the most comfortable fit in the shoe. Once you’ve tried that, you can make adjustments or work with an expert as needed to maximize comfort and enhance fit.

To adjust the arch support for best fit and maximum comfort, simply follow these guidelines:

1. if you purchased footbeds sep-arately from your shoes, make sure the footbed is the correct size for your shoes. You may need to trim the footbed to ensure that it fits properly in the shoe.

2. Try the shoe with the stock Medium (orange color) arch support installed, and notice how it feels. You may want to ride with the stock setting to see how it feels during a normal ride.

3. If the arch feels too high (arch presses uncomfortably into your foot) or too low (arch feels unsupported or flat) you may want to try a different level of arch support.

4. To change the level of support, simply remove the footbed from the shoe and peel off the arch support at-tached to the bottom of the footbed. Then install a different arch support based on your desire for more or less arch support.

WHY CHOOSE CYCLING-SPECIFIC FOOTBEDS WITH PROPER ARCH SUPPORT?Cycling is a unique activity. When you pedal a bicycle, your feet do not strike the ground; therefore your feet do not encounter the same forces and impacts as they do when you walk

or run. Therefore, there is less need for cushioning and more emphasis on proper arch support to enhance comfort and pedaling efficiency.

WHAT ARE “VALGUS” (PRONATION) AND “VARUS” (SUPINATION)? HOW DO THEY AFFECT PEDALING COMFORT AND EFFICIENCY?Valgus is the tendency of the foot to lean inward at the ankle. Varus is the tendency of the foot to roll outward at the ankle.

Either of these tendencies can cause aches and pain in the forefoot and arch, and in some cases negatively affect a rider’s pedaling comfort and efficiency. All Giro footwear provides the capability for you to adjust or replace footbeds, and to work with a properly-trained fitter to make adjust-ments that will enhance your comfort and performance if needed.

WHAT IS DIFFERENT ABOUT EASTON® OUTSOLES?The outsole is where human power is transformed to forward motion through the pedal. By working closely with the engineers at Easton, we were able to create proprietary outsoles that maintain an optimal stiffness profile while minimizing weight and stack height, which can improve performance and efficiency without compromising comfort.

HOW DO GIRO GLOVES FIT?Giro gloves are based on our proprietary Super Fit™ Engineering process that combines research data on human anatomy with hand-craft-ed refinements and a “tailored” construction. WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES BETWEEN MEN’S AND WOMEN’S HANDS?Women’s hands typically have a smaller palm girth and width, smaller wrist diameter and narrower fingers when compared to men’s hands.

HOW TO GET THE CORRECT GLOVE SIZE.Giro Gloves are available in unisex and women’s sizes that are tailored to the needs of cyclists. To determine your glove size, wrap a measuring tape around your dominant hand, just below your knuckles (exclud-ing your thumb), and make a fist. This measurement is your “hand width” glove size. Since every hand is unique, use the chart below as a guide, but allow for some variance based on how the glove fits!

WHY DOES GIRO USE A 3-PANEL PALM?The human hand is an amazingly dynamic instrument, with strength and dexterity that is essential to a rider’s control of a bike’s handling, shifting and braking. Our 3-panel design tailors the palm of the glove to

better fit the contours and articula-tion of the hand, and optimizes the location of padding, material and seams to enhance your comfort, grip and control of the bike.

WHAT ARE THE DIFFERENCES BE-TWEEN LEATHER AND SYNTHETIC GLOVES?Giro makes gloves in many configu-rations including classic all-leather designs, modern synthetic / natural hybrids and all-synthetic designs. Each glove is designed as a system to provide the best fit, comfort and performance for riding.

- Natural leathers provide a very supple feel and aesthetic, with the ability to break-in and form to the rider’s body. With proper care, they can also be durable enough to last several seasons.

- Synthetic gloves provide a supple feel and modern aesthetic, with the ability to breathe, stretch and conform to the rider’s body across a wide range of conditions. They are very durable, and require less atten-tive care than natural leathers.

- Hybrid designs, with a natural leather palm and synthetic upper, combine the best attributes of both materials. They are light, supple and breathable, with the ability to break-in and conform to the body.

- Winter gloves generally use synthet-ic materials to resist the elements and harsh conditions of winter riding, while insulating the body from cold and wet. We use modern insulat-ing materials, including synthetic insulation and wool-blend removable liners where appropriate, to provide the best comfort and performance possible.

Also note that some Giro glove mod-els have a slightly more “snug” fit when new, so you may need to size up from the size you usually wear or allow them some time to “break-in” for a perfect fit.

DO ALL GIRO GLOVES FIT THE SAME?Since our full glove line covers so many different needs and conditions, we may make adjustments to some patterns in order to create the best glove possible for each type of use or conditions. While we strive for the most consistent feel possible, this means that certain gloves may feel different than others. For instance, leather gloves will stretch and “break-in” with time and use, so they may feel snug when new compared to similar synthetic glove designs. Also, winter gloves are designed to have a little more interior volume in order to trap heat, so they may feel roomier than a comparable mountain bike or long-finger road glove.

HOW SHOULD I CLEAN GLOVES?

Cleaning Synthetic GlovesFor best results, clean the gloves using lukewarm water and a mild liq-uid soap or cleaner, and allow to air dry away from direct sunlight. When almost dry, you can put the gloves on to give them shape.

Cleaning Leather / Leather Palm GlovesFor gloves with leather, extra care will help to extend the life of the glove, and a good leather conditioner can help to keep the leather supple since washing can damage it.

STEP1: Use lukewarm water and mild soap to gently wash the glove (you can wear the glove while washing to help maintain the glove’s shape)

STEP 2: Gently pat dry with a towel to remove excess water

STEP 3: You can put the gloves on to give them shape, and then gently remove them. Make sure they are laid flat.

STEP 4: Hang to air dry away from heat or direct sunlight

STEP 5: When almost dry, you can put the gloves on to give them shape. You can also gently rub a good leath-er conditioner into the leather to help keep it suppleNote: Never dry clean, bleach or tumble dry!

PROPERLY STORING GLOVESAfter each use remove the gloves carefully, lay them flat, and allow the gloves to air dry in an open area. Then store in a cool, dry place. Note: We strongly discourage leaving used gloves in damp, enclosed spaces (like the bottom of a gear bag) since that can inhibit proper drying and cause the leathers or other mate-rials to become stiff or brittle.
