The Mansfield Activities Center (MAC) provides a variety of activities for all ages. The MAC offers a full-size gymnasium with divider, a kitchen and four multi-purpose rooms that are perfect for birthday parties, family reunions, showers, wedding receptions and more. For rental information, see page 19. From 9:00 am to 2:00 pm Monday through Friday, the MAC is home to the Mansfield Senior Lifestyles program serving adults age 55 and up. Daily activities such as card playing, a nutrition program, day trips, speakers, health fairs and more are offered. For more senior information, see pages 15 – 17.

All youth sports in the City of Mansfield are operated

by separate volunteer associations. The City of

Mansfield owns and operates the athletic fields and contracts those fields to the associations

during each season. Athletic fields are available for rental when fields are

not under contract with local sports associations.

Youth Recreation ScholarshipsThe City of Mansfield Youth Recreation Scholarship Program is designed to help children in families with limited financial resources participate in the City of Mansfield recreation programs and activities. Recipients of a Youth Recreation Scholarship will receive 80% off the program of their choice for that brochure.

To be eligible for a scholarship, the child must:• Be a resident of the City of Mansfield• Be age 17 or younger• Meet income eligibility guidelines

Membership

A facility identification card (MAC Card) is required for use of the facility, registration in most programs and for rental use of the MAC. Everyone age 2 and older must purchase a MAC Card to participate at the Mansfield Activities Center. You must check in and scan your MAC Card at the front desk on each visit to the center. You may use your MAC Card to check out gym equipment. An annual waiver must be signed each time a membership is purchased or renewed.

How to Register in Person All memberships and facility and park rentals must be done in person at the Mansfield Activities Center. You may also register for courses and programs at the MAC front desk on a first-come, first-served basis. Be aware that certain classes do fill quickly, so please plan ahead. Additionally, we ask that you register at least 3 business days before the start of a program. There will be a $5 late fee for any registration made less than 3 business days before a class begins. Payment is accepted by cash, check, MasterCard or Visa (with appropriate ID). You will need a current MAC Card before registering and all fees must be paid in full at the time of registration. You may join a class that is already in session, but full payment is still due. Individuals are responsible for making informed decisions regarding the products, programs and services presented in this brochure.

How to Register Onlinewww.mansfieldparks.comTo register for courses or programs online, you need to have an active account with the MAC and a Visa or MasterCard. Starting August 15, 2014 you can also pay with Discover or American Express. Not all programs require a MAC Card, but to receive your login information, you must have an established account at the MAC. Browsing for activities does not require an account. Online membership renewal is not available at this time.

Online registration will be unavailable August 13-17, 2014 as we move to a new software system. If you previously had an online registration account, you will need new login information starting August 18, 2014. Please call the MAC front desk at (817) 453-5420 to obtain your updated information. To establish an account or renew your MAC membership, you will need to visit the MAC located at 106 S. Wisteria St.

Please note that we are transitioning to new software and everyone will need a new MAC card starting August 15. Stop in now to update your record.

Ballet/Tap Combo (3 – 6Y) ªYour dancer is going to have so much fun and display their dance technique the best way in this class. We will begin classes with a warm-up using their imagination versus throwing out giant words to describe stretching. You will see your dancer increase flexibility, along with doing actual ballet. During the tap portion of the class, your dancer will actually make the proper tap sounds on the proper beats versus standing in one spot and swinging their legs.

Creative Dance (2½ – 5Y) ªChildren will be introduced to the fundamentals of ballet and jazz in a creative and fun way. Baby Signs (6M – 5Y)This is a series of eight, theme-based classes covering more than 30 useful signs that are taught through fun songs, books and activities. These sessions are designed for caregivers and their baby to attend together. Parents learn simple ways to support their baby’s or toddler’s intellectual development while incorporating signs for meal time, daily routines, and exploring the world around them.

Toddler Time (1M – 4Y)Toddlers, accompanied by parents, can interact and learn with other children their age in this safe, climate-controlled playtime. Cheerleading Class (4 – 8Y) ªCheerleaders will gain a general knowledge of the sport and the necessary skills to pursue their interest in cheerleading. Cheerleaders will learn proper form, technique, arm movements, jumps, and a variety of cheers and chants that incorporate these skills. Hip Hop (5Y+)Hip hop is a great way to get your dancer moving quickly. Class will begin with a brief warm-up and lead straight into a routine taught at a reasonable pace, assuring each dancer is able to properly perform proper placement of each move. Routines will be choreographed to hip hop or pop music styles. This is a great way of exercising and having fun while you are getting healthier.

Jazz Dance (5Y+)We will always begin class with a structured warm-up to upbeat music, working the body from head to toe. We will also perform a series of patterned steps, which is going to allow your dancer to discover coordination and perform powerful movements using the floor. A jazz routine will be taught putting moves together, and helping your dancer become a character and see the fun in jazzing up a few basic moves.

Beginner Sewing (12Y+)Students will begin by getting familiar with their machine, basic sewing terminology and skills, and simple construction through different projects each class. Nature Education

Birds at Oliver Nature ParkWhen was the last time you stopped to listen to the birds? Birds are active throughout the year. In this program, you’ll learn about some of the birds in Mansfield and get a close-up look at the birds in the treehouse and bird blinds at Oliver Nature Park. If you own some binoculars, be sure to bring them along. Wear weather-appropriate clothing and comfortable shoes.

Home School Nature Walk with a NaturalistThese programs are specifically geared towards a home school audience, but all are welcome. Join a naturalist for a guided walk around one of the parks of Mansfield. The naturalist will describe the plants and animals found along the trails. Learn about local ecosystems, watch how animals and plants interact, and sneak up on a few of the natural inhabitants of the city parks. Bring some water and wear weather-appropriate clothing and comfortable shoes. Park location varies.

Wildflowers of Oliver Nature ParkTake a moment to smell the native wildflowers. There are so many different kinds of flowers at Oliver Nature Park. Walk the trails of the park with a botanist that will describe all of the neat flowers you’ll see. Learn how animals use these wildflowers, too.

Bugs, Bugs, Bugs Insects are some of the most important organisms at the nature park. In this program, you’ll learn all about insects and their arthropod relatives. If you have a bug net, bring it.
