A spreadsheet with member names and emails and one or two resources they would be willing to provide to other members. (For example, I would list that I have a "Checklist for Supervisors for ensuring Completed Staff Work." I know that the website lists members areas of interest/expertise, but this would focus more on resources/ideas they could provide to other members.

1 2.33%

I am new to ASTD, so perhaps this exists, but... I would like to have a forum where occasionally people could come together to provide feedback for each other re: ideas and/or programs under development.

1 2.33%

I enjoy the monthly events for the networking. 1 2.33%

I haven't been able to attend many of the meetings. Next year I plan on attending more so I can provide more input.

1 2.33%

I really like the September all day training sessions. It was really beneficial both for content and networking.

1 2.33%

I work in Yuba City and would love an opportunity to connect with trainers in this area; it isn't always feasible to travel to Sacramento.

1 2.33%

I would like to see more technical workshops. For example the Golden Gate Chapter had a workshop for Adobe Captivate. I think as technology and training continue to collaborate we need to provide some workshops around these skills for training professionals in our community.

1 2.33%

Identify resources that offer discounts to ASTD members, such as retailers that provide training and business-related products and services.

1 2.33%

Question 13 (Free response) 48 of 76 respondents answered this question.

What program(s) or event(s) would you like to see more of in 2014? (Could be a speaker, a topic, a type of event, a small monthly event or larger and more detailed or expensive event) No limits! We want ALL your ideas.

Number Percent

1) A meeting with a "Meet the Members" focus where approx. 4-5 members speak for 5-7 minutes about their background and the type of work they do and share any training "best practices" that are particularly successful. It would be nice to learn more about some of the members beyond the general networking meetings. It's similar to the Throw-down, but the difference is that it wouldn't be a competition and the focus would be to learn more about their background and experience in training and what projects/programs/methods are working well for their organization. These presenters could be encouraged to be a bit creative/innovative in their presentations so it doesn't become just them reading their biography. 2) Incorporate a networking quiz at one of the meetings that focuses on member’s background or personal interests. It could be as short as 3-5 questions and they could be somewhat generic questions - some work related, some not). For example, a) Who in the room has worked at Disneyland? b) Who in the room has trained more than 10,000 people? c) Who has sung that National Anthem at a King's game? d) Who has more than 3 children? This could be done in the whole group as an opening activity.

I am thrilled to be a participant in the Fundamentals for Professional Trainers course in progress. Katrina Kennedy is wonderful and the networking opp's are great! I appreciate the format--six 1/2 day classes and would like to explore more in-depth Training Design in this format. I appreciate that a membership was included in the cost (I doubt it would be approved alone.) Thank you!

1 1.92%

I like the idea more frequent, smaller events, and one large event each year -- really enjoyed the Nor Cal conference in September

1 1.92%

I like what we do. But, learning more about effective training would be great. 1 1.92%

I liked the eLearning demofest when it was just eLearning, and not expanded out... but that is because that is my specialty. Maybe have at least one slot per session dedicated to an eLearning topic? Just thinking out loud here.

1 1.92%

I personally would like to give a Workshop on some eLearning software like Articulate Storyline. I have gotten several requests to conduct one.

1 1.92%

I really enjoyed the last event on mindfulness. I think I would like to see more speakers/topics along those lines.

1 1.92%

I really enjoyed the Northern CA Conference. Quality of speakers and content were very good.

1 1.92%

I would like to see programs on the following topics: culture change, change management in general, leadership development and team building

1 1.92%

I would like to see the September training sessions again in 2014. I also like the monthly meetings too. They have been great.

1 1.92%

I would love a local training on Articulate Storyline. 1 1.92%

I'm in serious need of mentoring information - how to plan, recruit, implement, evaluate...

1 1.92%

Include more on curriculum development and design 1 1.92%

Interactive sessions where we share ideas, discuss challenges, etc. Sort of like a large mastermind/roundtable discussion. Maybe we can incorporate this into some of the monthly meetings at the end for last 15 mins or so. Choose a topic and have an open discussion. Or choose a business card out of a bag, and that person chooses a topic and opens it up for questions/discussions. Other groups do this that I belong to and it is really powerful!!

1 1.92%

It would be nice to see more opportunities to hone or refresh the basics of training development and delivery.

1 1.92%

Many of the presentations I attended were expert-centered models vs. participant-centered models. Generally we are talked "at" not talked "with". Telling doesn't equal learning. Dissemination of information does not mean understanding. Engagement through timed conversations and essential questions shift the structure of a presentation to one of engagement and learning. I would like to see more of this type of conversation.

1 1.92%

More e-training focused to new entrants in the field 1 1.92%

More in-depth workshops several times a year in addition to the monthly programs 1 1.92%

More mindfulness. 1 1.92%

More networking events Training of trainers workshops and trainings 1 1.92%

More on Instructional Design and eLearning guest speakers 1 1.92%

More programs for those with more experience in training, development, delivery etc., instead of for beginners.

1 1.92%

More speakers and courses on topics such as coaching and mentoring, effective OD practices usable in a public sector environment; creating, launching, and maintaining a great place to work. Would love for Nick LaForce to do another course on CLP or related perhaps a "Coaching and Mentoring 1B"! His initial course as so valuable and the concepts well-utilized. Maybe Dianna Wright would do a course on Mindfulness?

1 1.92%

New innovative more programs around positive psychology how to use video in training 1 1.92%

Perhaps videos of the conference presentations (made available only to paid conference attendees), so they can still benefit and see presentations they were forced to miss by having to choose one presentation per session time.

1 1.92%

Provide substantive talks around mainstream and non-mainstream topics within L&D and/or affect L&D. For example, Lou Adler and performance management. Information about ADDIE and SAM. If training for the services industry, where trainees interact with people all of the time, how to educate trainers so that they can impart important soft skill knowledge to the trainees to make their job more effective.

1 1.92%

Providing new facilitator training on an ongoing basis. You have offered multiple sessions this year and it's appreciated. I'd like to see that continue so that, if we have a new hire without facilitation experience, there is a program like yours to offer them early in their time here. Keep it up. Thank you.
