ASTD's awareness campaign -- Employee LearningWeek -- is a great opportunity to demonstrate yourcommitment to workforce development in yourorganization or business. Showcase your learningand development opportunities during the week andbe recognized as an ASTD "Champion of Learning!" How can you celebrate Employee LearningWeek?
Encourage employees to attend a course orprogram that will enhance their skills.Hold an education fair or "lunch and learn"during the week to remind employees abouttraining opportunities.Send an email to employees each day of theweek with a new learning tip.Involve the CEO and senior executives inrecognizing the value learning brings to theorganization.Submit a proclamation request to governmentofficials within your community, city, or regionto highlight your Employee Learning Weekevents and activities.

Central Florida ASTD Members wentW.I.L.D. on October 5 and 6, 2012! Itwas a great weekend inspiring learningand development. Special thanks andappreciation goes out to all the boardand committee members who helpedplan and create this first-ever event. Four board members represented the Central Floridachapter at the National ASTD Leadership Conference(ALC) held in Arlington, VA Oct. 19-20. Anita Torres,Rene Ledford, Kathy Akbari and Brian Kingsburyattended the conference to learn more about chapterbest practices across the country, network with fellowboard leaders from other chapters, and understandthe tools and resources that National ASTD canprovide to the chapter.
Keynote speakers included Jim Smith Jr., LouRussell, and Heather Richetto-Rumley. Great bestpractices were shared by the Sacramento chapter onhow to grow a chapter and build "buzz" aroundprograms, while the Chicagoland chapter shared tipson how to be a more effective chapter leader.
Other sessions shared ideas on how to better utilizeWild Apricot or how to involve higher educationstudent populations into the chapter. Everyone feltenergized going away and excited to try some of thenew ideas that were learned. In 2013, watch forprograms to focus on "out of the box" programming,

ASTD Recognizes theCentral Florida
Chapter in its "SharingOur Success" Program
The Central Florida Chapter of theAmerican Society for Training &Development (ASTD) has beenrecognized for its submission to theASTD "Sharing Our Success" (SOS)program. The national SOS programidentifies best practices among localASTD chapters and uses them asmodels for other chapters.
Sarah Jeffcoat, Chair of ASTD's ChapterRecognition Committee said, "Thisrecognition honors best practices thatdemonstrates its commitment tomanaging a successful organization aswell as advancing the learning anddevelopment profession at the local level.We are excited to honor the chapter withASTD's SOS recognition."
