The TOEFL® iBT Test Preparation Program prepares students for all four sections of the TOEFL ® iBT exam.

The program provides effective test strategies for all of the questions on the reading and listening sections of the exam. Students also practice how to read quickly and effectively, and they learn how to take notes efficiently to succeed on the listening section. All six speaking tasks are practiced extensively in class and recorded. The instructor listens to student speaking samples and provides advice for improving word choice, speaking style, and organizational structure.

Unlike programs offered at other schools, students practice writing for the exam by doing one essay per week in class, and they receive scores and comments from the instructor. The instructor corrects and marks essays for misspellings, grammar mistakes, and organization to accelerate progress in writing.

In order to fully prepare students for the conditions and pressure of the examination, students receive partial reading and listening practice tests every Friday, and receive three full practice tests in the program. Practice tests are reviewed and scored in class. Full practice tests are scored by the instructor with comments and suggestions.

The GRE® / GMAT® Program is designed to help advanced non-native speakers of English improve their verbal, reading, and writing scores on either the GRE® or GMAT® test. Students receive individualized instruction on the test that they are preparing for, as well as group instruction to improve overall comprehension. This class will cover test-taking strategies and review the verbal portions of both tests.

Vocabulary is of paramount importance to both exams, and to students’ university careers following the exam. For this reason, vocabulary is studied for one hour every day. Three hours a week are dedicated to writing techniques, strategies and practice. The two question types, Issue and Argument, are taught in two-week cycles to allow for focused practice of both writing questions. Reading comprehension is also practiced three hours per week. Special attention is dedicated to teaching reading techniques and how to extract meaning from an article’s structure. The reading texts that students will be responsible for analyzing are university-level academic writings. This section stresses the development of test-taking habits that maximize scores for a given level of English.

The TOEIC® class is designed to help non-native speakers of English improve their TOEIC® scores with a unique system that covers the 7 parts of the TOEIC® listening and reading tests. Students receive individualized instruction, as well as group instruction to improve overall English comprehension.

The class uses authentic TOEIC® questions in listening, grammar, vocabulary, and reading. Students participate in simulated test situations and review strategies for the various types of questions they will encounter on the test.

MLI’s TOEIC® class also helps students become more successful in an actual business environment. Vocabulary related to business situations is learned every day.

The class is most useful for:• Students who wish to work in business in English-speaking countries• Students who need a TOEIC® score to get a job in their own countries

• Students who wish to learn business-related vocabulary

The class uses a textbook that contains vocabulary that most commonly appears on the TOEIC® test. Up to an hour a day is spent on learning new words, understanding and practicing them in context, and reviewing word forms.
