There are an abundance of opportunities in and around
the Episcopal Church. Although we don’t currently have
an annual diocesan mission trip, we are happy to help
point you to toward some great ministries we have
worked with: local, domestic and foreign missions.
Province IV Youth Ministries
Our province offers
opportunities for
middle and high school
youth. The Provincial
Youth Event Middle
School (PYEMS) is
held annually. The
Provincial Youth Event
was last held following
the Episcopal Youth
Event in the summer of 2014.
Four youth and two adults are attending the upcoming Province IV Youth
Leadership Gathering in the Diocese of Louisiana in December 2014.
The Commission on Youth & Young Adults plans
retreats and events for young people throughout the
Central Gulf Coast. They ensure the health and wellbeing
of diocesan youth and young adult ministry.
If you have an idea, we are here to listen. If you need
help, we are here to support and help build your parish
ministries with young people. Most of all, we help to
offer things that most parishes in the diocese couldn’t
otherwise offer to the larger community of Episcopal
youth and young adults.
Members of the Commission on Youth & Young Adults
are appointed by the Bishop and serve a three year term.

Regional Youth Events Adults Who Work With Young People
Camps
Although the age groups of junior high students vary
throughout school districts, we invite all 6th through 8th
graders to participate in these events.
Junior High Kickoff, Fall 2014
In the coming year we plan to begin an annual retreat for
Junior High youth as our response for the fall event
included nine churches from across the diocese.
In the fall of 2013 we gathered youth and leaders around
the diocese to share ideas, listen and imagine what the
future of our ministry could look like. The ideas ranged
from identifying needs of our young people to how we
would gather them.
Blue Wahoos Minor League Baseball Game, Fall 2014
In 2015 we plan to have six youth events designed
especially for each of the regions of our diocese.
While some high school events are specific to a particular
group of students, most events for high school will invite all
9-12th graders to participate. As diocesan youth ministry
grows, these offerings will expand.
Happening in partner dioceses, Alabama and West Tennessee
We have formed a Happening Steering Committee to bring
this high school retreat for 10-12th graders to our diocese.
Our target start date is February 2016 and until then we
continue to encourage our youth to attend this retreat in the
Diocese of Alabama or Diocese of West Tennessee.
Each spring we host an annual retreat for Adults Who Work
With Young People. This a time of retreat and refreshment,
but also a time to learn and be inspired to renew our shared
ministry to young people. We begin on a Thursday evening
and conclude on Saturday morning.
2014 Conference at Beckwith
We have identified groups of young adults around the
diocese that meet regularly. Some young adults are college
students at the University of West Florida, University of
South Alabama, Faulkner State, and Troy University
while others have completed college and are beginning
their careers and families.
We hosted a young adult session of Winter Woods in
December 2013 to help better understand the needs. We
also held an young adult open house with food and
drinks during the Diocesan Convention in February 2014.
Young Adults at Winter Woods, 2013
Beckwith Camp & Retreat Center offers camps in the fall,
winter and summer months. Special rates are now
