2015 SEC Tournament March 11-15

Bridgestone Arena • Nashville, Tenn. The 2015 Southeastern Conference Men’s Basket-ball Tournament returns to Bridgestone Arena in Nash-ville. It will be the fifth time that the arena has served as the host of the SEC Tournament, having also hosted in 2001, 2006, 2010 and 2013. Also the home of the NHL’s Nashville Predators, Bridgestone Arena has the distinction of being one of the busiest venues in the Unites States over the past decade and a half, hosting more than 18 million guests during that time. Seating capacity is approximately 19,395 for basketball games. The winner of the 13-game tournament receives the SEC’s automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament. The tournament seeds are determined by the 18-game conference schedule during the regular season. Teams are seeded 1-14 based on their regular season conference finish. Atlanta served as host of the inaugural SEC Tournament played following the 1932-33 season and did so again after the 1933-34 season. The event was held every year through 1952, with the exception of 1935. After a 26-year layoff (1953-78), the tournament was renewed in 1979. The 2012 tournament will be the 52nd in league history and the 33rd since the renewal. The SEC has shown extraordinary balance in the tournament, evidenced by the fact that a different school won the first seven titles after the renewal. The event has helped set the stage for SEC teams in the NCAA Tournament, as 22 of the tournament champions since the tournament resumed in 1979 have advanced to at least the Sweet 16. Three of the last 17 SEC Tournament cham-pions have gone on to win the national championship. Since the renewal in 1979, the SEC Tournament Champion has failed to win at least one NCAA Tournament game only four times. Kentucky leads the league with 27 SEC Tournament titles. Alabama is second with six, while Tennessee and Florida are tied for third with four. Mississippi State has three championship trophies while Georgia, Ole Miss and Vanderbilt have two. Arkansas, Auburn, LSU and former league member Georgia Tech have each won one SEC Tournament championship.

SEC Tournament Tie-Breaker Procedures Teams will be seeded No. 1 through No. 14 in the SEC Men’s Basketball Tourna-ment bracket based upon the final regular season Conference standings. Teams that finished No. 1 through No. 4 in the final regular season standings shall receive first- and second-round byes and teams that finish No. 5 through No. 10 will receive first-round byes in the SEC Men’s Basketball Tournament.1. Two-Team Tie. The following procedure will be used in the following order until the tie is broken: A. Won-lost results of head-to-head competition between the two teams. B. Won-lost record of the two teams versus the No. 1 seed (and proceeding through the No. 14 seed, if necessary). C. Coin flip by the Commissioner.

2. Three-Team Tie (or more). When three or more teams are tied, the following procedure will be used in the following order until the tie is broken. If two teams re-main tied after a tiebreaker provision, the two-team tiebreaker formula will be used. A. Best winning percentage of games played among the tied teams (Example: Team A is 3-1, Team B is 2-2 and Team C is 1-3 – Team A would be seeded highest, Team B second-highest and Team C lowest of the three). B. Best winning percentage of the tied teams versus the No. 1 seed (and proceed-ing through the No. 14 seed, if necessary). C. If two teams remain, coin flip by the Commissioner. D. If three or more teams remain, draw by the Commissioner.

For the purpose of seeding, if an institution is precluded from participating in the tournament, such institution will automatically be seeded last. The No. 11 seed will then receive a bye. However, for the purpose of breaking ties, that team will remain where it finished in the regular-season standings BEFORE being seeded last.

SEC Success Throughout the history of men’s college basketball, the Southeastern Con-ference has captured 11 NCAA Championships and four NIT titles, putting the SEC as one of the nation’s top basketball conferences. During the 2006-07 academic year the Southeastern Conference became the first conference to win the Division I National Championship in Football (Florida), Men’s Basketball (Florida) and Women’s Basketball (Tennessee) in the same school year. Only the SEC and the Big East have ever won both the men’s and women’s basketball titles in one season. SEC won both three times in 1996, 1998 and 2007. The Big East has won both twice in 2003 and 2004. The SEC swept both the NIT and NCAA Tournaments in 2006 when Flor-ida won its first NCAA championship and South Carolina earned its second straight NIT title. Only four conferences have won both the NIT and NCAA title, including the Big East (2003), ACC (1992) and Big Ten (1979).• The SEC was 12-3 (.800) in the NCAA Tournament and 17-8 (.680) over-all in postseason action.• The SEC’s 12 NCAA Tournament wins were the most of any conference (Big Ten 10, American 9).• The SEC won 80 percent (12-3) of its NCAA Tournament games, the best percentage of any conference.• Kentucky made its second appearance in the NCAA championship game in three years (2012) and 12th overall.• The SEC has won three of the last nine NCAA titles (2006-Florida, 2007-Florida, 2012 Kentucky). No other conference has won more than two NCAA titles during that stretch. • Since 1993, the SEC has won six men’s basketball national champion-ships – Arkansas (1994), Kentucky (1996), Kentucky (1998), Florida (2006), Florida (2007) and Kentucky (2012). Only the ACC (6) has won as many men’s basketball titles during this time.• The SEC has won 11 NCAA men’s basketball tournament titles with Ken-tucky claiming eight (1948, 1949, 1951, 1958, 1978, 1996, 1998 and 2012). Florida has two (2006, 2007) and Arkansas has one (1994).• Florida and Kentucky advanced to the Final Four and Tennessee made it to the Sweet 16. Kentucky made its 16th trip to the Final Four while Florida made its fifth appearance.• Kentucky’s John Calipari is 43-14 (.754) and Florida’s Billy Donovan is 35-12 (.745) in NCAA Tournament games.• This is the first time since 2006 (Florida and LSU) that the SEC has had two teams in the Final Four. It is the fourth time that two SEC teams advanced to the Final Four (1994, 1996, 2006).• Florida, Kentucky and Tennessee advanced to the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament. It is the most SEC teams in the Sweet 16 since 2007 when three teams (UF, UT, VU) advanced to the Regional Semifinals. It is the sixth time in the last nine years that multiple SEC teams have reached the Sweet 16.• Every SEC team making a postseason appearance in 2014 won at least one game.• The SEC has had at least one team advance to the Sweet 16 in 24 of the last 25 years. Eleven of the SEC’s 12 members have advanced to the Sweet 16 since 1996.• Three active SEC coaches are the all-time winningest coach at their insti-tution - UF’s Billy Donovan, UM’s Andy Kennedy and VU’s Kevin Stallings.• Every team in the SEC has made at least one NCAA Tournament appearance in the last 11 editions of the NCAA Tournament.• The SEC has won at least 65 percent of its non-conference games since the league expanded to 12 teams in 1991-92.• Over the last seven NBA Drafts, 48 SEC players have heard their names called. Twenty-two of those were selected in the first round and two were the No. 1 overall pick.• Kentucky is the all-time NCAA leader in wins with 2,111 and the Wildcats’ 111 NCAA Tournament victories are the most in tournament history. UK’s 52 NCAA Tournament appearances are the most in the nation.

SEC: 0-0 (0-0 H, 0-0 A)

Head Coach: Anthony Grant99-71 in 6th year at Alabama

175-96 in 9th year as a head coach

Alabama returns four starters and eight letterwinners from last season’s team. Included in the returning players are a pair of transfers who sat out the 2013-14 campaign in Ricky Tarrant and Michael Kessens. Both were able to practice with the team but did not suit up for games due to NCAA transfer rules. Tarrant and Kessens both transferred to Alabama and sat out the 2013-14 season due to NCAA rules. Tarrant scored over 1,000 points in his two seasons at Tulane and averaged 15.3 points. 3.4 assists and 1.5 steals a game during his career. Meanwhile, Kessens averaged 13.7 points, 8.8 rebounds and 1.4 as-sists per game, while shooting 54 percent from the floor as a true freshman at Longwood University in 2012-13. After playing a non-conference schedule that was ranked as the ninth-toughest in the nation a year ago, the Alabama men’s basketball team will play another challenging non-conference slate during the 2014-15 season. The Tide will play the likes of Iowa State (Nov. 24), Maryland or Arizona State (Nov. 25), Xavier (Dec. 6), Wichita State (Dec. 16) and UCLA (Dec. 28), among others. According to the final ESPN.com’s RPI rankings, Ala-bama finished with the No. 4 overall strength of schedule and the No. 9-ranked non-conference strength of schedule during the 2013-14 season. Only Kansas (1), Kentucky (2) and Wisconsin (3) played a tougher slate. Alabama played eight teams (a total of nine games) vs. NCAA Tournament squads. In addition, UA faced six teams (a total of nine games) that made the NIT. In all, the Tide’s scheduled featured 15 teams (for a total of 18 games) that made the 2014 NCAA Tournament and NIT. The group, which included SEC Player of the Year Scottie Wilbekin, Casey Prather, Will Yeguete and Patric Young, won 120 games as a class, most ever at UF. Junior Michael Frazier II, who set UF’s single-season record with 118 3-pointers last year, is the Gators’ lone returning starter. Missouri Basketball will have one of the youngest rosters in college basketball this season as just two starters and four returning letter winners are back from last season’s 23-12 campaign. The Tigers are now being led by former Missouri great, Kim Anderson. Anderson was the 1979 Big Eight Player of the Year at Mizzou and led nearby Central Missouri to the 2014 NCAA Division II National Championship. Missouri will look to extend its postseason appearance streak to seven consecutive. The Tigers advanced to the second round of the National Invitation Tournament in 2014 after qualifying for five straight NCAA appear-ances. Mizzou Arena has been one of college basketball’s top home court ad-vantages over the last six years. Since 2008-09, Missouri has won 102 games at home, ranking No. 2 nationally to only Ohio State (103).

South Carolina returns 71.3 percent of its scoring from last season, 88.5 per-cent of its rebounds and 75.5 percent of minutes played. The Gamecocks boast two SEC All-Freshman Team honorees on this year’s squad with Michael Car-rera (2013) and Sindarius Thornwell (2014). In 2014 league games, Thornwell led all freshmen in scoring (15.6) and assists (4.0); he posted six 20-point scoring games in SEC play. Two Gamecocks had standout play at the conclu-sion of the 2014 campaign, with junior forward Laimonas Chatkevicius and sophomore guard Duane Notice. Chatkevicius was stellar in the final six games of the season, averaging 7.7 points and 6.7 rebounds during the stretch, which included a career high with 16 points in the SEC Tournament win vs. Arkansas. Notice also played his best basketball of the season in the final games, as he posted a season high 23 points in the SEC Tournament win vs. Auburn, hitting a perfect 4-of-4 from 3-point range in the win.

The Vols’ 2014-15 roster features 15 players (12 scholarship student-athletes) representing nine states. There are four Vols who hail from the state of Ten-nessee, three from Georgia, and a pair of players are from Florida. Alabama, Kentucky, Maryland, New York, Oklahoma and Texas also are represented. Tennessee has three seniors, five juniors, two sophomores and five freshmen. Eight Vols stand 6-5 or shorter, and seven players are 6-6 or taller. Tennessee head coach Donnie Tyndall’s first season on Rocky Top signals the addition of eight scholarship newcomers, which marks the most in program history. The Vols return only four scholarship players: senior guard Josh Richardson, junior forward Armani Moore, junior forward Derek Reese and sophomore guard Robert Hubbs III. Hubbs appeared in only 12 games last season, as his debut campaign was cut short by a shoulder injury that required surgery. Among SEC teams, Tennessee’s nine newcomers (includes one walk-on) ties Missouri for the most in the league. And UT’s four returning lettermen tie Missouri and Texas A&M for fewest among SEC teams. Richardson is the only returner who started any games last season (36), while Moore started 16 games as a freshman in 2012-13.
