The Blumey Awards Judges Panel

The Doctor Family Foundation will present two $10,000 annually renewable scholarships to exceptional Charlotte region high school seniors who plan to pursue an undergraduate degree in a discipline related to the performing arts . Selection criteria includes strong interest and ability in a performing arts field, academic ability, and need . The Mary Doctor Performing Arts Scholarship is established in honor of Mary Doctor, a community business leader and arts advocate . Many thanks to The Doctor Family Foundation for its extraordinary support of Blumenthal’s Education programs .

Mary Doctor Performing Arts Scholarship

Introducing the Gordon Hay Scholarship Fund, a merit based scholarship established in memory of Gordon Hay . Gordon, an organizational development professional, believed passion and fire from within was the catalyst for transformational change and exceptional results . A Charlotte region high school senior is selected annually to receive a one-time award in the amount of $5,000 based upon scholarly achievement, community engagement, career aspirations/achievements in the performing arts, and evidence of a strong pursuit of personal excellence .

Gordon Hay Scholarship

UNCSA Summer Drama Intensive Award

The University of North Carolina School of the Arts is excited to present a full scholarship to their summer intensive program to one freshman, sophomore, or junior participant of this year’s Blumey Awards program . The UNCSA Summer Drama Intensive emphasizes the process that leads to excellent performance . Throughout this three-week intensive, students spend at least six hours a day, five days a week, in movement, acting, and voice classes. Sessions on improvisation, dance, singing, stage combat, circus skills, and acting for the camera are part of the exciting and rigorous curriculum .

Maureen O’Boyle (Master of Ceremonies)Maureen returned to her hometown of Charlotte to join WBTV in the summer

of 2004 . Maureen co-anchors the 5 p .m . and 6 p .m . news with Paul Cameron Monday through Friday . She also solo anchors "PrimeTime," Charlotte's only newscast at 7 p .m . Monday through Friday . Prior to joining WBTV, Maureen worked on national television, anchoring syndicated programs for Warner Brothers and Twentieth Television, including, "Extra" and "A Current Affair ." Maureen was also at the helm of her own talk-show for Warner Brothers called "In Person With Maureen ."

David Dabbon (Music Director/Conductor)David Dabbon is a New York based composer and Grammy nominated orchestrator, providing additional orchestrations for the Tony nominated musical “Sondheim on Sondheim ." David has served as conductor/and arranger/orchestrator for the fi st annual Blumey Awards, arranger for the Gene Kelly Awards and the National High School Musical Theatre Awards . He is an orchestrator on Audra McDonald's upcoming album "Go Back Home ." David most recently wrote the dance arrangements for the new broadway bound musical ‘The Nutty Professor,” composed by the late Marvin Hamlisch and Rupert Holmes, directed by its original star Jerry Lewis .

Linda Booth (Choreographer)Linda Booth hails from Washington, DC, and received her BFA in dance performance, as well as her teaching certifi ate in dance education from

UNC-Greensboro . She has maintained an exciting and enriching career in Charlotte as a performer, director and choreographer . As a teaching artist, she has instructed over 20,000 youths and was honored to be selected N .C . Dance Educator of the Year . Linda is passionate about musical theatre, and has choreographed over 100 productions in regional and educational theater . She has been the recipient of many awards from MTA, as well as the N .C . Theater Conference .

In addition to personally orchestrating the music for The Blumey Awards Ceremony, David Dabbon composed tonight’s closing number, “Don’t be Surprised,” with lyrics by Jill Abramovitz .
