PAKSCAN 3

• Pakscan was originally introduced in 1986 specifically for actuator control. Currently is undergoing its fourth evolutionary phase.

• Used by hundreds of systems controlling thousands of actuators world wide.

• Secure, mature communications.• Proven interoperability with all major host system

suppliers.• Fully pre-engineered system.

System Background

• Long loop distance - 20 km Loop length. • No repeaters – up to 240 FCUs can be connected.• Total redundancy throughout – loop, master station

modules (hot standby) and host communications• Fast command response < 0.5 second per FCU. • Acyclic data capabilities - FCU can be parameterised via

the loop.• Efficient loop communications protocol - “One time” write

commands, i.e. multiple commands to the same device are only sent once. This reduces bus traffic and increases system response.

System Features

• Loop Fault Tolerance – Loopback Feature:– Unique Loopback feature isolates faults in the event of

a cable failure, i.e. open-circuit, short-circuit or earthing fault

Break, Short or Ground fault

Fault Tolerance

• Master Station / Host Comms Redundancy: – Provided by Hot Standby switch over functionality and

multiple host communications ports.

Fault Tolerance

• Modbus TCP/RTU (Ethernet / Serial comms)– Four in-built, field proven database formats:-

• Generic Modbus.• Yokogawa Format.• Honeywell EPLCG.• Honeywell SI.

• Up to 10 hosts can be connected concurrently via Ethernet

Host Interfacing

– Four host comms ports available - 2 dedicated serial ports and 2 dedicated Ethernet ports.

– Additional Ethernet service port (for commissioning).– Serial comms baud rates 2.4 kB to 115 kB.– Ethernet comms baud rates 10 / 100 MB– Switch selectable RS232 / RS485 interface.– Auto-sensing on Ethernet ports, i.e. no need for cross-

over cable or intermediate switch/hub

Host Interfacing

• P3 has a graphical colour display with icons representing the menus and settings.

HMI Display

• On some screens the icons are supplemented by text messages which are constantly updated.

• Navigation is via a simple set of push buttons.

HMI Navigation

• Built in Web browser provides access to all master station data:

Web access

• The panel mount version is shown. 19” Rack mounting also available.

Mounting

• Note all terminals are easily accessible from the front

Front Access

• Logging of host messages, including the originating command source and time/date information as well as the P3 replies, to allow traceability of events. Accessible from HMI and web browser

Other functions

• High level security enabling access to the system to be restricted by host port and IP source address.

Other functions

• Automatic e-mail generation for alarm conditions can be configured giving the designated maintenance engineer immediate warning of master station problems.

Other functions

• Field upgradeable software– No need to replace EPROMs, software can be

modified via the Ethernet port- Channel capacity can increased via the Ethernet

port or CPU module by using a unique code

Other functions

• Synchronisation of the real time clock using a Network Time Protocol (NTP) server.

Other functions

• Multi-language selection option for HMI and web pages: (English, French, Spanish, German & Italian available now – Hungarian in progress)

Other functions

• Expertise:– Rotork owned IP– No Interoperability problems– Single vendor solution– Vast experience

• System design• Commissioning• Service
