Men travel from all over the world to attempt to melt the heart of the beautiful ice princess, Turandot, by solving three riddles.

Answer correctly and win her eternal love; answer incorrectly and lose your head.

Set in ancient China, come and bathe in Puccini’s vocally extravagant final opera which features some of his most glorious music, including the famous tenor aria “Nessun dorma.” Turandot will be the largest production ever staged at Sarasota Opera.

A new night to celebrate! Due to popular demand, we have separated our Gala from the season’s opening night performance. This year, The Opera Gala will be held one week prior to the opening night performance of Turandot at the elegant Ritz-Carlton, Sarasota.

The evening will feature a decadent four course dinner, a performance by Sarasota Opera Principal Artists, as well as dancing to the tunes of the 42nd Street Big Band. To give the occasion a taste of Turandot, the ballroom will be decorated with beautiful Chinese accents.

We have negotiated a special room rate at the ‘Ritz’ so you can enjoy yourself and take the elevator home if you desire. This will be a party not to miss!

Before Carmen there was The Pearl Fishers. Composed when he was only 24, The Pearl Fishers launched Bizet’s career in the Parisian musical world.

Our past two productions (2000 & 2003) of Bizet’s famous work sold out. J. Michael Wingfield’s exotic sets and Howard Tsvi Kaplan’s gorgeous costumes will once again provide a stunning framework for Bizet’s lush score.

In Verdi’s second opera, the King of Poland hides from his enemies by asking an unknown knight, Belfiore, to impersonate him. Recognizing

the unique advantages associated with impersonating a king, Belfiore ends up not only enabling his own happy ending by weaving a web of amorous intrigues, but the happy ending of others as well.

Using as its principal source Verdi’s own manuscript, Sarasota Opera is proud to perform, as its 29th operatic presentation in The Verdi Cycle, the world premiere of this opera’s critical edition.

The Verdi Cycle

“One of the most significant achievements in the opera world.”— John Fleming, Tampa Bay Times

The Verdi Cycle began in 1989 as a unique undertaking to perform the complete works of Giuseppe Verdi, both operas (including all alternative versions), and his impressive body of non-operatic music. By the completion of the Cycle in 2016, Sarasota Opera will be the only company in the world to have performed every note of music Verdi ever wrote.

Based on the novel and play by John Steinbeck, Carlisle Floyd’s Of Mice and Men stays faithful to the story of two depression

era workers, George Milton and Lennie Small, struggling to achieve their American dream of owning their own farm. However, when fate forces them down a different path, they must say goodbye to their dreams of a bright future.

Premiered in 1970, Floyd’s Of Mice and Men has become an essential piece of the American repertoire and is performed all over the world.
