2013 Solo & Ensemble Music FestivalMay 6-7, 2013Festival Adjudications at UAACommand Performance at East High
Welcome to the 2013 ASAA / First National Bank Alaska State Solo & Ensemble Music Festival. This event effectively promotes high standards of musicianship.
The goal of this activity is to foster and inspire technical achievement, aesthetic understanding and critical lis-tening skills. Essential to this process are students who are willing to grow; music educators who clearly visu-alize, interpret, and teach musicianship; and adjudica-tors who can provide thoughtful, accurate, and educa-tionally sound reactions. The result is a vital interaction that remains one of the more exciting, enjoyable, and worthwhile events in high school music activities.
Students pre-qualify for participation at the State Solo and Ensemble Music Festival by receiving a “I” or “Su-perior” rating at a qualifying festival. For the 2013 State Solo & Ensemble Music Festival, there are 530 entries, a daunting number to be accomplished in a two day period. To perform at the Command Perfor-mance Concert on Tuesday evening, students must be nominated by the state adjudicator for each adjudicat-ed section.
ASAA and our corporate partners join schools, music directors, private teachers, parents and communities in congratulating all high school instrumentalists and vo-calists performing in this state culminating event. Years of dedicated hard work to develop your talents have paid off. Your challenge will be to not only perform to the best of your ability, but also to learn from the adju-dicators and fellow students.
A heartfelt thanks goes to the University of Alaska An-chorage for contributing an exemplary facility to host the festival and to East Anchorage High School for contributing this phenomenal performance facility.
