Quiet Gardens
Epiphany House has quiet and peaceful grounds with aspects over open countryside
and a rich variety of trees, shrubs and plants. It is a haven for wild animals and birds.
There are comfortable benches, secluded spots, paths to explore and a memorial
garden. We are developing a small prayer garden which has a mown spiral walk and
a central arbour with pleasant views.
Epiphany House is a member of the Quiet Gardens Movement.
On Tuesdays in May, June and July the grounds and gardens are open to visitors
seeking space to pray and reflect. Resources are available from the House to enable
guests to pray in, with and through the garden. Visitors do not need to book but are
asked to drop in to the office on arrival to let us know you are here. As with Art and
Prayer (see below) there is no charge but visitors are welcome to make a dona on
to the work of the House if they wish.
Art and Prayer
Tuesdays in May, June and July
Between 9.30 am and 4.00 pm
The gardens of Epiphany House will be open to
ar sts who would like to spend some me reflec ng and
praying through pain ng what they see and respond to
in the beau ful grounds. It will be a chance for me
alone to create as well as an opportunity to meet others
who are exploring how crea vity is a doorway
to the spiritual.
There is no set agenda or metable,
come and go as suits.
Please bring your own art materials.
No experience required, beginners and
accomplished ar sts are welcome.
A small room will be set aside in the House
with facili es for making tea and coffee
and for cleaning brushes etc.
Meditation Group A form of prayer that opens us to God’s presence in the
deepest part of our being, through reflec on on a passage
of scripture and beyond. No previous experience is
necessary, as God is with each of us uniquely wherever we
happen to be. You are welcome to come, to taste and see,
and decide for yourself if this way of prayer is for you.
Circle Dancing
Circle Dancing is great fun. There are no wrong steps, just varia ons!
Much of the music we dance to is tradi onal folk music and it oen speaks
of a community’s troubles and sufferings, as well as joys. The fact that all
stand holding hands in a circle gives a very powerful sense of group cohesion
and harmony that can be important in busy, fragmented lives.
Moving in me to the music and in harmony with one another is a special
experience: energising, relaxing and medita ve all at once!
Over the years many new dances have been choreographed,
inspired by a whole range of music from Bach to Taizé.
They are beau ful to listen to and to dance to.
No previous experience is necessary and all age groups are welcome.
Centering Prayer Contempla ve prayer is the opening of mind and heart – our whole being – to God,
the Ul mate Mystery, beyond thoughts, words, and emo ons. Contempla ve
prayer is a process of interior purifica on leading, if we consent, to divine union.
Centering Prayer is a method, developed by Fr. Thomas Kea ng, designed to
facilitate the development of contempla ve prayer. During the me of prayer we
consent to God’s presence and ac on within. It does not replace other kinds of
prayer; it simply puts them into a new and fuller perspec ve.
