THE NASCAR FOUNDATION A Letter From Our Chairwoman

Dear Friends,On behalf of The NASCAR Foundation, I want to personally thank

our generous NASCAR family – the fans, drivers, teams, tracks and sponsors – for making 2013 a year of unprecedented engagement and giving. We celebrate the conclusion of another exciting year in which the Foundation positively impacted the lives of thousands of children in racing communities across the country, devoting time and resources to helping turn our kids into winners.

Among our 2013 highlights:n The NASCAR Foundation kicked off the 2014 NASCAR season

with its third annual poker event, “High Speed Hold ’Em”, presenting the Daytona Beach Speediatrics Unit with a $150,000 check. This investment assures that children can focus on learning by addressing their medical needs in a safe and caring environment.

n The Betty Jane France Humanitarian Award experienced unprecedented growth in YOY voting participation for all of our finalists. We announced our winner, Kansas City resident Don Post, in Las Vegas and are so thrilled to have been able to use this award to honor outstanding local volunteers who positively impact children’s lives.

n The NASCAR Foundation dedicated new efforts toward bringing innovation and technology to classrooms across the country, providing cutting-edge resources and by introducing students to science and technology applications within NASCAR

We are also pleased to announce a new and more strategic focus on educational efforts impacting children. In 2014 and beyond, we will work tirelessly to provide fans and stakeholders with the constant opportunity to help children learn how to win, both inside and outside of the classroom.

We look forward to the opportunities that 2014 will bring as we go forward with this refreshed vision. There is so much work still to be done.

Sincerely,

Betty Jane France Chairwoman, The NASCAR Foundation

EDUCATIONAL PROGRAM FOCUS KEEPS GIVING

In 2013 The NASCAR Foundation activated a program showcasing our commitment inside the classroom. Due to limited resources available to schools, this initiative ensures educators are able to fully fund projects that they would not have otherwise been able to accomplish. The NASCAR Foundation reached 65 disadvantaged classrooms by funding school supply donations, which included 3-D printers, iPads, reading tablets and other innovative technology to in-need schools, along with everyday school supplies. More than 10,000 students have benefited from The NASCAR Foundation’s efforts to bring innovation and technology to classrooms across the country by providing cutting-edge resources and by introducing students to science and technology applications within NASCAR.

Through the donation of innovative resources, The NASCAR Foundation ensures classrooms continue to evolve with the times and build confidence within children across the country. To seamlessly accomplish the program, The NASCAR Foundation worked in partnership with Donors Choose, a charity that channels teacher project requests for funds. Of the many classrooms The NASCAR Foundation assisted in 2013, the impacts of donated resources surface in creative and progressive activities for students.

The NASCAR Foundation donated a 3-D printer to Woodland Middle School in East Point, GA to support Ms. Barber’s classroom math and science projects. Below is an update letter on the progress of not only her students, but the entire schools interest.

Dear The NASCAR Foundation,The 3D Printer has helped tremendously in creating tools to make the abstract real. The students who mix and match blocks to combine quarters, halves and whole pieces love it. The students who take apart, put together and take apart the cone are excited. The French students are enjoying their Eiffel Towers. It’s been a marvelous gift in that sense.I find that best part of the gift is the self-worth and confidence the students are getting. So many cannot believe our school has the printer. The excitement to watch the printing and then touch the items is huge. I cannot count the number of students who have gathered around

the printer to touch it, look at the filament and then step back and watch something be created before their eyes. I have not yet managed to convince students they can create their own ideas on the 3D printer, but it is coming. Teachers ate cookies in the shape of Pi and marveled at the 3D printed cookie cutter. Visitors make an extra stop in the media center to see the printer. Each time we make something on the 3D printer, another child asked to see it, touch it or get it explained. Turning on curiosity is a gift that will keep giving a long time. Thank you! With gratitude, Ms. Barber

At-trAck educAtionAl opportunities

The NASCAR Foundation’s educational initiatives extend beyond the classroom by bringing children with debilitating illnesses, underprivileged youth, and others to the track for once-in–a-lifetime experiences. The NASCAR Foundation enables kids to experience the high-tech, fast paced world of NASCAR through educational at-track activities engaging them in the science and technology of the sport.

PHOENIX

The NASCAR Foundation partnered with Phoenix International Raceway, the Challenger Space Center, the Night Rover Challenge and Littleton School District to host more than 400 children and their families at the Space Center for Gears and Galaxies: NASCAR meets NASA. Littleton School District students also attended the NASCAR Toyota Mexico Series race thanks to tickets donated by Phoenix International Raceway and transportation from The NASCAR Foundation. To conclude the program, 15 students were rewarded for academic excellence with a STEM-focused educational tour of the NASCAR Sprint Cup garage at Phoenix International Raceway.

atlaNta The Boys and Girls Club of Metro Atlanta were challenged with a non-motorized

vehicle project by The NASCAR Foundation. To enhance learning and the project’s completion, 27 children were given a VIP NASCAR Experience at Atlanta Motor Speedway. Groups met with Jamie Rigot, Manager of Safety Inspections, to learn about garage safety. Then students met Clint Bowyer’s team engineer, Tim O’Brien, who spoke to the children about his career as a NASCAR engineer and the relationship between science and the sport. Finally, the children learned about racing old school from a living legend, Dale Inman, NHOF inductee and the only crew chief to win 8 Sprint Cup Championships. Concluding the program on September 6, children presented their projects to family and friends.

nascar industry celebrations

NASCAR Driver Jeff Gordon joined volunteers to help package “With You All the Way” kits at Daytona International Speedway.

NASCAR RaceTo Green

In celebration of the Kansas City Speedway STP 400 and Earth Day, The NASCAR Foundation joined forces with the Student Conservation Association, UPS, the Arbor Day Foundation and its partners for a signature service event at Weston Bend State Park. Local elementary students along with organizational partner volunteers planted more than 90 trees that were donated by UPS, while cleaning bike and hiking trails. Additionally, Toyota drivers Clint Bowyer and Martin Truex Jr. joined local youth to plant trees and spread recycled rubber mulch just outside the gates of Kansas Speedway.

An American Salute

As a part of the second-annual NASCAR – An American Salute campaign, The NASCAR Foundation provided 2,500 “With You All the Way” kits to children of deployed service men and women that were distributed by the USO to children and families at Fort Hood, Texas. The “With You All the Way” kits were assembled to promote self-confidence and resiliency among military children as they tackle difficult issues that are unique to growing up in a military family.

Friday, July 5, volunteers gathered at Daytona International Speedway for the “With you All the Way” kit assembly event. NASCAR drivers, executives, media, partner employees and other VIPs walked the assembly line, helping package the kits. Driver attendees included Jeff Gordon, Joey Logano, Sam Hornish, Jr., Michael Annett, Blake Koch, Parker Kligerman, Nelson Piquet, Jr. and Ty Dillon. Additionally, at Pocono Raceway a packing party was hosted and attended by NASCAR Drivers Aric Almirola and David Ragan, Miss Sprint Cup and country music recording artist Tim Dugger.

speediatrics

Florida-located Speediatrics facilities at Halifax Health Medical Center and Homestead Hospital provide medical treatment to more than 27,000 children annually. The NASCAR Foundation continues to extend its reach beyond the hospital walls by supporting other causes related to helping children live a healthy life.

High Speed ‘Hold ‘Em On The Halifax’

The NASCAR Foundation Chairwoman Betty Jane France was joined by co-chairs, Brett Dill and Glenn Ritchey to support raising funds for the treatment of sick children at Halifax Health Medical Center in Daytona Beach. In addition to poker, the evening’s activities included an auction event and a generous check presentation of $150,000 by The NASCAR Foundation for its annual donation to the Speediatrics unit at Halifax Hospital.

Championship Taste

With over 400 attendees, The NASCAR Foundation hosted its second annual Championship Taste. NASCAR drivers, fans and friends gathered at Homestead-Miami Speedway to enjoy a unique dining experience while raising money for the Speediatrics unit at Homestead Hospital. The event featured Miss Sprint Cup and NASCAR Sprint Cup Series drivers Aric Almirola and David Ragan. The festivities raised $100,000 for Miami-area children to continue to receive premium health care and treatment.

Kelly, a nurse at one of our Speediatrics hospitals, received a call at work that her son, Samuel, had drowned in the bath tub and stopped breathing. Kelly was told Samuel was being transported by ambulance to a local hospital that did not have a pediatric department or a pediatric emergency room. Kelly immediately told them she wanted her son transferred to Speediatrics.

Samuel’s mom and dad were right there as the doctor spoke calmly about everything he was doing for Samuel and why. They waited and trusted the medical teams in the Speediatrics Unit to nurse their baby boy back to health.

Today, Samuel is doing well. He is smiling at his mom and dad — a smile Kelly feared she would never see again. Thanks to the generosity of folks like you, Samuel is one of over 27,000 children who receive state-of-the-art medical care annually through Speediatrics Units.

betty jane france humanitarian award

2013 Finalists

Since the award’s national activation began in 2011, more than 50,000 children have been impacted by $575,000 in donations made by The NASCAR Foundation to children’s charities of the finalists for the Betty Jane France Humanitarian Award.

Winner Don Post’s (Kansas City, MO.) life changed when he was diagnosed with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis, also known as ALS or “Lou Gehrig’s Disease.” Doctors said he only had three to five years to live; he retired from his professional job to make the most of what time he thought he had left. Instead of allowing the disease to get the best of him, he embarked on a 37-year mission of donating his time and talent to charities in the Kansas City metropolitan area. Don has been a member on the March of Dimes “Bikers for Babies” motorcycle ride committee for 12 years, the event’s chairman since 2010, and has

received a number of volunteer service awards in recognition of his dedication and loyalty.

Post won $100,000 from The NASCAR Foundation for March of Dimes Kansas City. Shortly after Post was named as the award recipient, Kansas Speedway President Patrick Warren announced that Kansas Speedway would match The NASCAR Foundation’s donation of $100,000.

Prior to the award’s ceremony, all finalists experienced NASCAR race VIP tours, which included behind the scenes access to the drivers meeting, driver introductions and more. The three finalists each received a $25,000 donation to their children’s charity.

Duncan Dobie (Marietta, GA.) has mentored more than 12,000 children with cancer by serving as a teacher and motivational figure at Camp Sunshine. After his daughter was diagnosed with leukemia at a young age, Duncan set out on a path to share his teachings of patience, acceptance and hope with other children battling cancer.

Lisa Hall (Bedford, N.H.) served as a Court Appointed Special Advocate (CASA) volunteer to support children who were in danger of being removed from their homes due to abuse or neglect. Her kindhearted dedication to helping others and strong work ethic have allowed her to take on extremely intense cases, while maintaining a full-time career. Lisa spends 10 or more hours a month working on assigned cases until each child has been placed in a safe, permanent home—a feat that takes a year and a half on average.

Richard Johnson (St. Johns, FL.) became devoted to the fight against Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency in 2008 when his two young children were diagnosed with the genetic condition, which can lead to life-threatening liver and lung disease. He has traveled around the country to speak about the urgent need to increase diagnosis and testing of Alpha-1 in children and families.

MISSION The NASCAR Foundation embodies the compassion of the NASCAR Family and its commitment to serving communities. The NASCAR Foundation seeks to raise funds and increase volunteerism to support nonprofit charities and charitable causes throughout the nation with an emphasis placed on initiatives that affect the ability of children to live, learn and play.

IMPACT Since 2006, The NASCAR Foundation has committed nearly $18 Million dollars to initiatives that inspire children around the country to live, learn and play. Evidence of our impact can be found on the smiles of thousands of children attending summer camp for the first time, receiving care in our Speediatrics hospital units and exploring the behind-the-scenes world of NASCAR during race weekends. It can also be found through the Betty Jane France Humanitarian Award which honors the spirit of volunteerism that drives the NASCAR community.

Auctions: Win-Win Opportunities for Our Kids and SupportersDaniella DeGrace, avid NASCAR fan and donor, has

been a member of The NASCAR Foundation family for more than four years and a frequent participant of our auctions program for the past two years. Through her contributions she has participated in numerous NASCAR VIP experiences. Her favorite highlights include lunch with NASCAR President, Mike Helton, a ride along with her favorite driver, Matt Kenseth, experiencing a race as an honorary Pit Crew member, and dropping the green flag during qualifying.

“I’ve witnessed countless times how The NASCAR Foundation helps members of our very large NASCAR fan family in many different ways,” said DeGrace. “It inspired me to help and get personally involved in supporting their initiatives.”

Each month, The NASCAR Foundation works with industry partners to host a variety of charitable auctions. Supporters have the opportunity to receive a once-in-a-lifetime VIP experience or collect a unique piece of NASCAR history, all to benefit the kids!

Bruce Kilgour, a volunteer and Regional Leader Fan Ambassador since The NASCAR Foundation’s inception in 2006, makes a significant difference in the lives of children by leading community fundraising projects and volunteering at-track.

Year-over-year, Kilgour has engaged fellow NASCAR fans by hosting garage sales, race-day viewing parties, and other fundraising events to encourage awareness of The NASCAR Foundation’s mission for the kids. Additionally, as a Regional Leader he annually brings

large groups of enthusiastic volunteers to assist in The NASCAR Foundation’s booth efforts during race weekend at Auto Club Speedway. “Any true NASCAR fan should understand the ‘family friendly’ image that our sport has, and should experience the great feeling of giving back to the community. The sense of purpose and working together with other charitable friends and fans is highly recommended,” said Kilgour on the importance to volunteer and encourage others to become involved.
