Thanksgiving Point2013 Annual Report

I’m pleased to share Thanksgiving Point’s 2013 annual report with you.

Nearly twenty years ago, Thanksgiving Point was founded with a dream to offer beautiful and educational spaces grounded in the ability to change and improve lives. Today, Thanksgiving Point Institute is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit farm, garden, and museum complex attracting 1,367,949 guests in this fiscal year. We are fulfilling our mission to draw upon the natural world to cultivate transformative family learning.

This was a year of growth as we built the building and exhibits for the highly anticipated Museum of Natural Curiosity. The Museum of Natural Curiosity will join Farm Country, Museum of Ancient Life,

and Thanksgiving Point Gardens as the places of Thanksgiving Point used to expand the ways Thanksgiving Point makes an impact on lives.

This growth could not have happened without the generous community of donors, members, volunteers, and guests who share their time and their resources to create the vibrant community that is Thanksgiving Point. We thank you.

During the 2013/2014 fiscal year, Thanksgiving Point experienced s igni f icant growth with the preparation for the Museum of Natural Curiosity opening and an expansion of educational programs. With more than 400 interactive experiences, guests can choose a new adventure each time they visit the Museum of Natural Curiosity. In Rainforest, guests can explore the ancient ruins and chambers, crawl inside the 45-foot-tall monkey heard, and pretend to fly the Piper Cub. At Water Works, guests can explore science with water, wind, sun, and earth, or go to the Discovery Garden to learn about nature and

the six simple machines in the Archimedes Playground. Guests can explore a mini city complete with a magic shop, bank, secret passages, and more in Kidopolis. For more educational opportunities, guests can visit the Exploratorium exhibit in the Innovation Gallery or take a class in one of the Dickson Academy classrooms. The options are endless for all curious minds.

Transformative learning is part of Thanksgiving Point’s mission, which is offered through educational programs for all ages. Programs included field trips, adult classes, youth classes, summer day camps, family night activities, and signature

experiences like the Tulip Festival.Thanksgiving Point’s impactful programs are offered in partnership with Utah State University Extension 4-H. Growing Leaders is a leadership and mentoring club for high school students, Fairchild Challenge offers teenagers an environmental-themed contest to engage with today’s most pressing environmental problems, and Tulips Journey North is an outreach program teaching elementary school students to become critical thinkers and citizen scientists.

In addition to youth programs, Thanksgiving Point hosted more than 50 signature experiences providing

family-friendly entertainment and culturally enriching experiences. Some of the most popular signature events include the Tulip Festival Half Marathon, Jiggle Fest, Labor Day Luau, Eat Like a Pilgrim, and Holiday Lights.

Thanksgiving Point provides a myriad of educational opportunities for all ages for the community to enjoy year round. It is a place where families come together to learn, discover, grow and laugh.
