years to this worth cause Your efforts do not gounnoticed Our Catholic faith and belief is underattack from all sides We must stand firmTOGETHER

On this subject the 40 Days for Life of the unbornwill kick off February 12th Then our biannual vigilat Planned Parenthood will begin the day after AshWednesday We as Knights are responsible for 6Wednesdays in a row during Advent Please helpfill positions so others do not have to stand for hoursat a time Contact Tom Hruska

I want to thank Darren Johnson for arranging ourfirst Free Throw contest that we have begun tosponsor once again Darren made it happen withhelp from the Squires If you go back far enough inour records we have held a contest in the past but itwas a long time ago Thank you Darren

We have three new members that joined at ourRegional meeting on January 12th They areFernando T Griego his son Fernando Griegoand Armando Ravelo Please welcome our newestBrother Knights when you see them

This begins the writing season for you poor GrandKnight WAAAHHHPray that I will have thestamina to fulfill this obligation and correctly Lastyear it paid off in many ways one being therecognition of our council Statewide You are thereason our council received the highest honor in StarCouncil and the State Deputyrsquos Council of the YearThis helps in so many ways As of this writing ourCouncil is the largest in the State Way to go guysand girls

May we all stand vigilant and fight against thegreatest slaughter of all time with 52+ millioncreations of God not being allowed to walk on thisearth Man defying God can only mean Goddefying man Mankind has been given manywarnings not to defy him yet it continues from thetop of the food chain to the bottom

Some things in life seem so evident andor makecommon sense I have to pinch myself that this isreal and happening There are a great number ofthose that do not believe in life or the definition ofmarriage It just doesnrsquot seem possible Some donot believe in capital punishment for instance yetstand by while the most innocent speechless arenot allowed to be born

Joseph C Snow (Joe) is a Field Agent for the Knightsof Columbus assigned to our council since midNovember He has been a Knight since 2005 and is a4th degree member Prior to becominga Field Agent he served our country inthe US Air Force in both enlisted andofficer ranks for 31 years retiring inApril 2012 in the rank of LieutenantColonel Joe was born May 3 1957 inPeru Indiana to the late Air ForceMaster Sergeant (Retired) WayneldquoHankrdquo Snow and the late Rose MSnow As an Air Force brat he movedwith his family to South CarolinaAlaska and KI Sawyer AFB beforesettling in Calumet Michigan He graduated fromCalumet High School in 1975 and then attendedMichigan Technological University for a year Heenlisted in the Air Force in 1977 and was an honorgraduate from Weapons Mechanic Technical SchoolAfter a break in service he earned a Bachelor of Science

degree in 1983 from Northern Michigan University andreceived his commission through Officerrsquos TrainingSchool in 1984 His career includes numerous

operational and staff assignments fivedeployments to Bosnia Afghanistan andIraq and an exchange tour with theBritish Royal Air Force Joe is adistinguished graduate ofUndergraduate Navigator TrainingLead-in Fighter Training USAF FighterWeapons School and Air GroundOperations School He is a masternavigator with 2180 flying hoursprimarily in F-111ADEFG modelaircraft and RAF Tornado GR1

The officers of Council 1643 Knights of Columbus arepleased to announce the Knight of the Month as BrotherJim Pivec Jim is an example of the best Catholic gentlemanamong many Catholic gentlemen in our Council 1643 andacross the State of Washington We are proud to bestowthis honor on our Brother Jim Pivec

Jim and his wife Meg recently celebrated their 50th weddinganniversary a milestone that we all strive forhellipa happymarriage and a lifelong partnership of Christians Theyenjoy three children and six grandchildren Jim and hiswife are products of the IBM environment and have movedmany times before retiring and settling in WesternWashington After Jimrsquos retirement from IBM he served asa Knights of Columbus Field Agent for five years He hasalso worked for the State of Washington Department ofEarly Learning where he faithfully contributed to youthdevelopment by monitoring the state funded pre-schoolprogram

Jim and his wife Meg are communicants of St MichaelParish and in his Parish Jim has served on the FinanceCouncil lending his expertise in such a manner as to keepSt Michael Parish well-funded and serving the interests ofits parishioners In the community For several years Jimedited a weekly newsletter and maintained a web site forthe West Olympia Rotary Club and served as thecoordinator of the International Student Exchange programfor West Olympia Rotary (This author and his family havedirectly benefited from a similar Rotary program in Alaskawhich sent my daughter to Spain for a year to study inSeville I have personally seen the hard work that goes intothis Rotary program) Jim has also served on the Board ofTrustees of the West Olympia Rotary and has served asPresident Vice President Treasurer and web site editor forhis Homeowners Association

Jim current serves as a co-editor of our Council 1643monthly newsletter and is currently our Financial Secretarya job requiring a great deal of attention and expertise Jimis also a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus and a member ofthe 4th Degree Schola Choir

Council 1643 is extremely lucky to have Knights like JimPivec working for the Council Church and CommunityWe are very proud to honor Jim with this award and weencourage all Knights to aspire to his goals and ambitions

FAMILY OF THE MONTHDARREN amp JOANN JOHNSON

Council 1643 Knights of Columbus is pleased to announcethe Family of the Month as Brother Darren Johnson andJoann Johnson family Darren has been a member of thecouncil for a short time but his attitude is that if itworthwhile he should embrace it whole heartedly as amember This he has done

In this Fraternal Year Darren was elected Deputy GrandKnight He also assumes the mantles of Chair of theProgram Committee and also Family Director bothpositions being right at the heart of the Councilrsquos activities

Brother Knights worked with Darren on the Knights BeforeChristmas tree giveaway program this year where they wereable to double the commitment this year from 12 trees to25

Darren and his wife Joann are a significant presence at StMichael Parish where they both serve as members of theHospitality Ministry Joann is a master baker and is veryactive serving with the Knights in the kitchen at both StMichael and Sacred Heart at lunch and dinner events Be onthe lookout for Joannrsquos CakeCupcake Store ndash she hopes tohave her own store someday We have all enjoyed thespecial treats that she has made for many of our events

Darren and Joann have two daughters Whitney is marriedand is 19 years old Mackenzie is 16 years old this monthand attends River Ridge High School

Darren never seems to stop organizing and taking on theleadership for council events He just completed organizingand managing a very successful Free Throw Contest at StMichael and is now as the committee chair turning hisfocus of our St Patrickrsquos Day Dinner event scheduled forMarch 16th at Hallen Hall

Darren is a classic car enthusiast owns his own consultingbusiness and has worked with the City of Lacey and theFire Department to resolve community issues

For all that they do Darren and Joann are truly worthy ofthe honor bestowed upon them as our councilrsquos family ofthe month Congratulations and God bless you Darren andJoann

Jim and his wife Meg recently celebrated their 50th weddinganniversary a milestone that we all strive forhellipa happymarriage and a lifelong partnership of Christians Theyenjoy three children and six grandchildren Jim and hiswife are products of the IBM environment and have movedmany times before retiring and settling in WesternWashington After Jimrsquos retirement from IBM he served asa Knights of Columbus Field Agent for five years He hasalso worked for the State of Washington Department ofEarly Learning where he faithfully contributed to youthdevelopment by monitoring the state funded pre-schoolprogram

Jim and his wife Meg are communicants of St MichaelParish and in his Parish Jim has served on the FinanceCouncil lending his expertise in such a manner as to keepSt Michael Parish well-funded and serving the interests ofits parishioners In the community For several years Jimedited a weekly newsletter and maintained a web site forthe West Olympia Rotary Club and served as thecoordinator of the International Student Exchange programfor West Olympia Rotary (This author and his family havedirectly benefited from a similar Rotary program in Alaskawhich sent my daughter to Spain for a year to study inSeville I have personally seen the hard work that goes intothis Rotary program) Jim has also served on the Board ofTrustees of the West Olympia Rotary and has served asPresident Vice President Treasurer and web site editor forhis Homeowners Association

Darren and Joann have two daughters Whitney is marriedand is 19 years old Mackenzie is 16 years old this monthand attends River Ridge High School

Darren never seems to stop organizing and taking on theleadership for council events He just completed organizingand managing a very successful Free Throw Contest at StMichael and is now as the committee chair turning hisfocus of our St Patrickrsquos Day Dinner event scheduled forMarch 16th at Hallen Hall

Darren is a classic car enthusiast owns his own consultingbusiness and has worked with the City of Lacey and theFire Department to resolve community issues

Jim and his wife Meg recently celebrated their 50th weddinganniversary a milestone that we all strive forhellipa happymarriage and a lifelong partnership of Christians Theyenjoy three children and six grandchildren Jim and hiswife are products of the IBM environment and have movedmany times before retiring and settling in WesternWashington After Jimrsquos retirement from IBM he served asa Knights of Columbus Field Agent for five years He hasalso worked for the State of Washington Department ofEarly Learning where he faithfully contributed to youthdevelopment by monitoring the state funded pre-schoolprogram

Jim and his wife Meg are communicants of St MichaelParish and in his Parish Jim has served on the FinanceCouncil lending his expertise in such a manner as to keepSt Michael Parish well-funded and serving the interests ofits parishioners In the community For several years Jimedited a weekly newsletter and maintained a web site forthe West Olympia Rotary Club and served as thecoordinator of the International Student Exchange programfor West Olympia Rotary (This author and his family havedirectly benefited from a similar Rotary program in Alaskawhich sent my daughter to Spain for a year to study inSeville I have personally seen the hard work that goes intothis Rotary program) Jim has also served on the Board ofTrustees of the West Olympia Rotary and has served asPresident Vice President Treasurer and web site editor forhis Homeowners Association

Darren and his wife Joann are a significant presence at StMichael Parish where they both serve as members of theHospitality Ministry Joann is a master baker and is veryactive serving with the Knights in the kitchen at both StMichael and Sacred Heart at lunch and dinner events Be onthe lookout for Joannrsquos CakeCupcake Store ndash she hopes tohave her own store someday We have all enjoyed thespecial treats that she has made for many of our events

Darren and Joann have two daughters Whitney is marriedand is 19 years old Mackenzie is 16 years old this monthand attends River Ridge High School

Darren never seems to stop organizing and taking on theleadership for council events He just completed organizingand managing a very successful Free Throw Contest at StMichael and is now as the committee chair turning hisfocus of our St Patrickrsquos Day Dinner event scheduled forMarch 16th at Hallen Hall

Darren is a classic car enthusiast owns his own consultingbusiness and has worked with the City of Lacey and theFire Department to resolve community issues

Jim and his wife Meg recently celebrated their 50th weddinganniversary a milestone that we all strive forhellipa happymarriage and a lifelong partnership of Christians Theyenjoy three children and six grandchildren Jim and hiswife are products of the IBM environment and have movedmany times before retiring and settling in WesternWashington After Jimrsquos retirement from IBM he served asa Knights of Columbus Field Agent for five years He hasalso worked for the State of Washington Department ofEarly Learning where he faithfully contributed to youthdevelopment by monitoring the state funded pre-schoolprogram

Jim and his wife Meg are communicants of St MichaelParish and in his Parish Jim has served on the FinanceCouncil lending his expertise in such a manner as to keepSt Michael Parish well-funded and serving the interests ofits parishioners In the community For several years Jimedited a weekly newsletter and maintained a web site forthe West Olympia Rotary Club and served as thecoordinator of the International Student Exchange programfor West Olympia Rotary (This author and his family havedirectly benefited from a similar Rotary program in Alaskawhich sent my daughter to Spain for a year to study inSeville I have personally seen the hard work that goes intothis Rotary program) Jim has also served on the Board ofTrustees of the West Olympia Rotary and has served asPresident Vice President Treasurer and web site editor forhis Homeowners Association

Jim current serves as a co-editor of our Council 1643monthly newsletter and is currently our Financial Secretarya job requiring a great deal of attention and expertise Jimis also a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus and a member ofthe 4th Degree Schola Choir

Brother Knights worked with Darren on the Knights BeforeChristmas tree giveaway program this year where they wereable to double the commitment this year from 12 trees to25

Darren and his wife Joann are a significant presence at StMichael Parish where they both serve as members of theHospitality Ministry Joann is a master baker and is veryactive serving with the Knights in the kitchen at both StMichael and Sacred Heart at lunch and dinner events Be onthe lookout for Joannrsquos CakeCupcake Store ndash she hopes tohave her own store someday We have all enjoyed thespecial treats that she has made for many of our events

Darren and Joann have two daughters Whitney is marriedand is 19 years old Mackenzie is 16 years old this monthand attends River Ridge High School

Darren never seems to stop organizing and taking on theleadership for council events He just completed organizingand managing a very successful Free Throw Contest at StMichael and is now as the committee chair turning hisfocus of our St Patrickrsquos Day Dinner event scheduled forMarch 16th at Hallen Hall

Darren is a classic car enthusiast owns his own consultingbusiness and has worked with the City of Lacey and theFire Department to resolve community issues

For all that they do Darren and Joann are truly worthy ofthe honor bestowed upon them as our councilrsquos family ofthe month Congratulations and God bless you Darren andJoann

Jim and his wife Meg recently celebrated their 50th weddinganniversary a milestone that we all strive forhellipa happymarriage and a lifelong partnership of Christians Theyenjoy three children and six grandchildren Jim and hiswife are products of the IBM environment and have movedmany times before retiring and settling in WesternWashington After Jimrsquos retirement from IBM he served asa Knights of Columbus Field Agent for five years He hasalso worked for the State of Washington Department ofEarly Learning where he faithfully contributed to youthdevelopment by monitoring the state funded pre-schoolprogram

Jim and his wife Meg are communicants of St MichaelParish and in his Parish Jim has served on the FinanceCouncil lending his expertise in such a manner as to keepSt Michael Parish well-funded and serving the interests ofits parishioners In the community For several years Jimedited a weekly newsletter and maintained a web site forthe West Olympia Rotary Club and served as thecoordinator of the International Student Exchange programfor West Olympia Rotary (This author and his family havedirectly benefited from a similar Rotary program in Alaskawhich sent my daughter to Spain for a year to study inSeville I have personally seen the hard work that goes intothis Rotary program) Jim has also served on the Board ofTrustees of the West Olympia Rotary and has served asPresident Vice President Treasurer and web site editor forhis Homeowners Association

Jim current serves as a co-editor of our Council 1643monthly newsletter and is currently our Financial Secretarya job requiring a great deal of attention and expertise Jimis also a 4th Degree Knight of Columbus and a member ofthe 4th Degree Schola Choir

Darren and his wife Joann are a significant presence at StMichael Parish where they both serve as members of theHospitality Ministry Joann is a master baker and is veryactive serving with the Knights in the kitchen at both StMichael and Sacred Heart at lunch and dinner events Be onthe lookout for Joannrsquos CakeCupcake Store ndash she hopes tohave her own store someday We have all enjoyed thespecial treats that she has made for many of our events

Darren and Joann have two daughters Whitney is marriedand is 19 years old Mackenzie is 16 years old this monthand attends River Ridge High School

Darren never seems to stop organizing and taking on theleadership for council events He just completed organizingand managing a very successful Free Throw Contest at StMichael and is now as the committee chair turning hisfocus of our St Patrickrsquos Day Dinner event scheduled forMarch 16th at Hallen Hall

Darren is a classic car enthusiast owns his own consultingbusiness and has worked with the City of Lacey and theFire Department to resolve community issues
