LIBRARY SCAVENGER HUNT

2012 TEEN & ADULT SUMMER PROGRAM

The Summer Reading Program for teens and adults runs for seven weeks.

Play reading EXPLORO each week for a cool prize. Visit the library at the start of the

summer to pick up your EXPLORO card.

HOW TO PLAY:

Each square has a number of minutes. Mark off squares as you read the number

of minutes indicated.

Get EXPLORO (seven squares in a row across, down or diagonal) each week,

June 18th to August 4, to get a prize at the library.

Complete the Library Scavenger Hunt to get the center scavenger hunt square.

Pick up the scavenger hunt list at the Front Desk.

Fill your entire card by August 4 and receive a

$5 gift certificate for the Beaver Dam Book World.

Join Benjamin Buchholz as he discusses his debut novel One Hundred and One Nights and his non-fiction book Private Soldiers. His novel was inspired by his experiences as a Civil Affairs Officer in Safwan, Iraq. Ben grew up in the Waupun area and is currently pursuing a degree at Princeton.

Korean War: a Historical Perspective

Saturday, June 23 | 1 pm | Meeting Rm

Beaver Dam resident Jack Kwon, who was born and raised in South Korea, will give a historical presentation of the Korean War. He offers a unique insight into this time of history. This program will also honor those who served in the Kore-an War. Typical Korean appetizers will be served.

Experienced RC flyer will introduce the basics of flying RC planes and the Realflight 6 RC flight simu-lator, as well as explain the benefits of using a simulator before flying an RC plane. Calligraphy for Beginners | Tuesday, July 10 | 6 p.m. | Meeting Rm

Local artist Shannon Kelly will teach the basics of calligraphy. Participants will bring home a one-of-a-kind bookmark or framed calligraphy piece. Advance registration required. Limit: 20 Penny Rugs | Wednesday, July 25 | 6 p.m. | Meeting Rm Fiber artist Louise Budde will instruct the basics of making a penny rug, a folk art popularized in the mid-18th century. As part of the Farm to Table Series, Emily Shier shares simple, economically-savvy solutions for in-corporating local, fresh, nutritious ingredients into your family's diet. Taking the Farm to Table series around the world, Mason Zantow will share his creative approach to using summer produce to create healthy world cuisine with local ingredients. Participants will receive recipe cards to include in the Farm to Table recipe book. No sign-up required.

The Children’s Summer Reading Program runs for seven weeks. Play reading EXPLORO each week for a cool prize. Visit the library at the start of the summer to pick up your EXPLORE card. Each square has a number of minutes. Mark off squares as you read the number of minutes indicated. Get EXPLORO (seven squares in a row across, down or diagonal)

STORYTIMES @ YOUR LIBRARY June 18 - August 16

Toddler Time | Mondays, 9:30am - 10am For 1 - 2 year olds and their caregivers. Come for a fun storytime with short picture books, songs, and finger-plays.

Preschool Stories | Mondays, 10am - 10:30am For 3 - 5 year olds and their caregivers. Join us for stories, finger-plays, songs and a simple craft.

Family Storytime | Thursdays, 10am - 10:30am For children and their caregivers. Join us for a family storytime with picture books, finger-plays, and songs.

Storytime is intended for individual families. Large daycares or childcare providers are asked to contact the library to set up separate storytimes.

*No Family Storytime Thursday, July 5

Lego Club Tuesday, June 26, July 24 & August 21 @ 2pm

Kids ages 4+ are invited to the library for Lego fun! Build and create using the library’s Lego collection. Lego creations will be displayed in the library between club meetings.

Please do not bring personal Lego collections. Only library Legos may be used. Donations of Legos are welcome!

Teen Book Pics All you need is a book and a camera or your cell phone!

Choose a book with an interesting cover, stage it anyway, anywhere you want

and take a picture. Email your picture (or a link to your picture) to

[email protected] along with a title for your photo, your name and phone number.

Teen Book Pics will be posted to the library Facebook page.

Photos received by August 4 will be eligible to be Teen Book Pic of

the summer! Voting will take place the week of August 6.

*Use of photo editing tools such as Photoshop, Picasa, etc. IS allowed!
