City of Kyle blocks water providers rate increaseby Jonathan York, Hays Free Press
The Kyle City Council voted unanimouslyTuesday night to suspend Monarch Waters 62
percent rate increase.
Council members did this after a public hearing inwhich more than 20 neighbors from theAmberwood and Indian Paintbrush subdivisionscame up to speak. Some of them said the higherrates would price them out of their homes. If youdrive down through Amberwood youll see a lot ofhomes for sale, one man said.
After hearing a few people say they wereconsidering putting their homes up for sale, onewoman said, I find it appalling that I could losemy neighbors and friends because they cannot payfor something as basic as water.
The room was full with many people standing. There was applause after every set of remarks, sometimes interrupting the speaker. We have lived in that home for four years, andwe have never received an increase in customerservice and water quality, said Rebecca Cruz. For six months I was paying for somebodyelses meter, and all I got from the Monarchcustomer service was, Sorry, maam, you have
to pay it.
