She was the First Woman in Wilmington...
In 2003, Dr. Rosemary DePaolo became the first woman
Chancellor for of the University of North Carolina at Wilmington.
During that time, she made improvements in areas such as student-faculty ratio, the
percentage of minority students enrolled, and freshman retention
and graduation rates.

She was the First Woman in Wilmington...
Beth Pancoe become the first female licensed contractor in the
area and went on to open her own company, SDI Construction,
Inc., in 1987.

She was the First Woman in Wilmington...
Jane M. Hartley became the first female Commanding Officer of
Marine Safety in 2002. In her 27 years of service, she’s been awarded
medals such as the Coast Guard Commendation, the 9/11 Medal, and
the Coast Guard Achievement.
She was the First Woman in Wilmington...
Hannah Block became the area’s first female lifeguard, serving the
Carolina Beach area from 1941 to 1949.
Hannah Block was also Wilmington’s first Mayor Pro Tem,
serving from 1961-1963.
Port City Young Professionals is a network
of professionals in their 20’s and 30’s designed
to engage and introduce young professionals to Greater Wilmington’s vast resources and
