"On the evening of February 23, 2011, the Armenian Bar Association, including Congressmen Adam

Schiff and politician Raffi Manoukian, honored a group of 12 students from the Armenian Sisters'

Academy located in Montrose, California. The recognition was well deserved as this group of

young hopefuls participated in the rigorous Constitutional Rights' Foundation's yearly Mock Trial

Competition for the 2012 year. In fact, out of the 36 middle schools that participated, they were one

of the six that made it to the play-offs and the only Armenian school to participate in the middle

school level. The members of the team consisted of 7th grade and 8th grade students, including

Shant Papirian, Narek Halebian, William Ovasapyan, Michael Gharibian, Raquel Ghougasian, Chris-

tianna Bethel, Tamar Kazazian, Talar Galoustian, Amelie Teltscher, Hrag Hamboyan, Minas Arake-

Principal Sister Lucia commended the coaches for their excellent job by devoting their time and

expertise in preparing the students for the competition. The encouragement

received by these young scholars will surely impact them in the future."

We are proud of our students' accomplishments and look forward to next years participation.

3000 cupcakes Our cupcake

story

As my daughters and I frost, decorate and arrange the 3000th cupcake for the upcoming Easter Bazaar organized

by the Parents’ Auxiliary, I can’t help but reflect back to the last 18 years of our cupcake making episodes.

Every year, for the last 18 years twice and sometimes three times a year, Sevan, Aleek and I get together in our kitchen to make cupcakes for ASA fundraising events. That was and still is our family’s contribution to school but throughout the years; it was also a bonding experience for my daughters and me. Sure, the school benefited by selling the beautifully decorated cupcakes (depending on the holiday or the occasion), but, most of all, I cherished every moment that I spent with them during the process.

Our discussions have changed from who likes who in preschool back then to planning a graduation party from a University now, but we keep building memories nevertheless.

Someone asked me recently why do I keep bringing cupcakes to school since both Sevan and Aleek have gradu-ated years ago, but how do you give up such a sacred tradition of bonding, sharing, laughing, and giggling. I’m sure it will have to end one day, but for now we will keep on baking as long as we can.

Thank you ASA for giving me the opportunity to build unforgettable memories and quality time with my daughters; as I see it we both benefited. Who knew that a tiny little cupcake can make such a big difference.

My advice to all parents is to spend quality time with your children whether you’re making cupcakes or doing something else. You will never get these years back; There’s no redo in raising children, so grab whatever time from your busy schedule and build priceless memories.

Dollars spent on cupcake materials $$$$. Time spent cleaning the kitchen afterwards, many hours.

Building unforgettable memories with my daughters, priceless. Mrs. Armine Sherikian

Daddy & Me What a beautiful evening...

Let me take you back and give you a very brief recap of what really took place…

Although that evening took its toll on my vocal cords as the Master of Ceremonies, the joy I saw in my daugh-ter’s eyes (who was one of the Sixty-one kids that were present there that evening) made up for it.

The fathers, unfamiliar at the beginning (or at least for myself), soon became more involved with the project(s) that were planned for that evening – drawing, making book markers and art work for commuter mugs for the dads. In addition to the art projects, raffles were drawn and ten winners received gift certificates from Barnes & Noble and Berj Book Stores.

The evening would not have been considered complete (just like any other Armenian gathering) without food. Therefore, I can proudly say that the entire 137 participants enjoyed delicious sandwiches and appetizers that were generously donated by the DerSahagian family (Daron & Vem’s parents).

The evening came to an end with Digin Sona’s appreciative closing remarks - thanking everyone for supporting and participating in this program.

I, on the other hand, went home with a souvenir that I hold very dear, and which I have been putting to use since that day… My mug sits on my work desk where it holds my pens, and the bookmarker is in the book that I am currently reading… And as far as Sea’ra (my daughter) is concerned, she still plays with the puzzle that she received that day and brings up the subject of that evening every time that she remembers it.

Thank you Sisters’ Academy for taking such care of our children. You have created a “home away from home” feeling where our culture, mother tongue and traditions are valued, taught and preserved.

Arture H. Zabounian, proud parent of Sea’ra

*th grade project

The play was overall very funny and interesting. The curtains were opening and closing a little too much and I could see some actors not on stage, from the sides. I loved the theme and the comedy of the play. William was very funny as the Armenian man. Also Vahag was funny and looked confi-dent while performing. Nareg and Michael were great hosts. It was a little hard to understand some parts but most of the play was clear. I loved the volume level. The play was enjoyable and the story very well written. It was not boring but very interesting. The play had comedy, history, and a very important topic the first amendment which defends are rights. I also think that the actors were well picked. I enjoyed the play a lot. On March 10, 2012, Parents’ Auxiliary hosted its Fashion Show and Meetchink Luncheon which took place in the beautiful DeLux Banquet Hall. We would like to thank all of you who through your atten-dance and contributions made this event a very successful one. We are proud to announce that we were able to raise $7,100 from this one event! As you know, the PA raises funds for all kinds of needs that our school re-quires. We are glad to announce that part of this fund raising will go towards purchasing of smart boards for each student. This is a very expensive project but in order to keep up with all the technological advancements and improving our school’s curriculum, this is imperative!

As school year comes to an end, we will have a few more small events. Again, parts of the profits will be used for classroom instruction materials as described above.

Please join us Friday, April 20, 2012 for a yummy fundraising event. After school come and treat yourselves to some delicious frozen yogurt from Yum Yum Yogurt & Deli.

Next month, we will have the coffee and Manayesh drive thru. Please check your school calendar for details.

Again, we would like to thank you all for your continuous support and dedication.
