Apollo Group, Inc. was founded nearly 40 years ago in response to a continuing shift
in higher education demographics from a student population dominated by youth
to one that includes students of all ages, experiences and walks of life. We began
with the belief that higher education and lifelong learning are increasingly important
for personal and professional success, and this belief remains the foundation of our
work.
At the core of our business is a mission to ensure that all Americans not onlyhave access to a quality higher education, but also have access to safe, healthy
environments where they can continue to learn, explore and grow both personally
and professionally.
The passion our founder, Dr. John Sperling, has for innovation, supporting social
causes and a belief in environmental stewardship continues to guide Apollo Group.
This translates daily into a philosophy of corporate social responsibility focused on
educational access, career readiness and sustainability.
Our 2012 Corporate Social Responsibility Report provides an overview of our efforts,
and I invite you to read this years report and experience our philosophy in action.
Regards,
Greg Cappelli
Chief Executive Officer

Through this partnership, weve helped entrepreneurs in eight citiesacross the U.S. This Academy provided a valuable learning experience
for green entrepreneurs. We helped them develop the skills and
contacts to advance their businesses and shared the resources
available to help them with funding.

Sustainability
At Apollo Group we thrive on innovation and the challenge to create new solutions.
In fact, we pioneered online education at University of Phoenix more than 20 years
ago. Our mission is to provide access to higher education, but Dr. Sperling realized
that access isnt just about going to college; it is also about ensuring access to safe
environments for the youngest and oldest of students to continually learn, explore
and grow.
Dr. Sperlings legacy has translated into support of innovative programs that protect the
environment and foster pioneering green businesses that provide jobs and economic
growth in local communities. This is done through support of many organizations
including Cleantech Open, Green For All and the National Park Foundation, as well
as constantly reviewing our own business processes and practices to reduce our
environmental footprint.
What a perfect match!
University of Phoenix, like the
Cleantech Open, is all about
innovation, education and
cutting-edge business training.
We look forward to the
collaboration ahead.

Community Engagement
As a leader in our field, Apollo Group knows that education is the single most important
tool that will prepare America to overcome the challenges that face our communities.
We believe in community programs that support all children, regardless of economic
barriers, to help students achieve a first-class education that will prepare them for
success as future workers, parents and leaders.
Not all children living in our communities have the same opportunities to learn as
others. While some families struggle to ensure basic needs like housing and food,
too many families are also unable to afford education and educational expenses.
Apollo Group is proud to lend our resources to make a difference.
We are incredibly grateful for the long-term partnership we have
enjoyed with University of Phoenix. To have a major educational
organization like University of Phoenix donate their time and resources
is what keeps Junior Achievement going.
Joyce Richards
President, Junior Achievement of Arizona
We cannot thank University of
Phoenix enough for helping us
to provide our kids with much
needed and essential school
supplies. Thanks to their generous
donation of school supplies,
our students are receiving the
tools and resources they need to
succeed in school and brighten
their future.

Scholarships
Education is a transformative gift. It impacts individual lives and families as well as
reinvigorates local communities. As the largest private university the most powerful
thing we can do is give the gift of a college degree. Thus, our scholarship programs
are the core of our giving philosophy. In 2012, we provided 706 scholarships to
deserving individuals across the country and abroad.
University of Phoenix is focused on tailoring its offerings and services to the needs
of working learners and thus provides a wide range of scholarship programs.
Institutional scholarships to community partners help expand their capacity by
investing in community leaders. Additionally, by providing scholarships to our
strategic partners we showcase our commitment to meeting workforce challenges
through educational solutions.
Your generosity has changed
my lifeand will continue to
change lives, as my educational
experiences will ultimately benefit
the people I serve.

the United States and has since worked tirelessly to provide a life for
himself and his family was certainly a memorable, once-in-a-lifetime
