Tipping Points...• Charlotte returns home for the last time in January and for the fourth game in five contests to open 2013 when it plays host to Atlantic 10 foe Xavier at 2 p.m. Sunday as part of National Girls and Women in Sports Day.• The 49ers picked up their first A-10 triumph of the campaign Wednesday night, knocking off Rhode Island, 53-42, in Kingston, R.I. The Niner defense limited the Rams to just 13 points in the second half, pulling away for the victory after trailing by one at halftime.• Charlotte has held five-straight opponents under 60 points, giving up only an average of 47.0 points per game during the stretch.• Seniors Amanda Dowe and Jennifer Hailey remain the league’s top two rebounders with 11.3 and 11.2 per game averages. The pair ranks among the nation’s top 15 in the category and is among just 39 players nationally to currently average a double-double.• Paula Bennett, the school’s all-time leading scorer and second all-time leading rebounder, was honored this past week as the 49ers’ inaugural Atlantic 10 Women’s Basketball Legend.• Charlotte is one of just 14 programs nationally, and the only non-BCS school, to reach the postseason in each of the last 10 years after extending the streak last season with a WNIT berth.

aShe became the third current player to step foot onto the floor for at least 100 career games, join-ing fellow seniors Jai Forney and Jennifer Hai-ley, who each both reached the milestone Nov. 14 at TCU.

Starting the season off with three winsaFor only the second time in school history, the Niners began a season with three-straight victo-ries in back-to-back years.aThe first instance in which Charlotte accom-plished the feat was in 1993-94 and 1994-95.aThe 49ers began last year, head coach Cara Con-suegra’s first season at the helm of the program, with a 5-0 mark.

Rallying for a winaCharlotte posted its first victory of the season when trailing at the half, as it completed a 63-58 win at UNC Wilmington Dec. 5.aUnder head coach Cara Consuegra, it marked just the second time in her two seasons in which the 49ers overcame a halftime deficit.aThe only other instance in which it has hap-pened in the Consuegra era was Nov. 16, 2011, at Virginia Tech. The Niners trailed 26-25 at the break before claiming a 71-65 overtime triumph.

Don’t count us out...againaFor the second time this year, Charlotte over-came a halftime deficit when it knocked off Rhode Island Jan. 16.aThe 49ers trailed 29-28 at the break before win-ning 53-42.

Eight is great...aJunior Ny Hammonds has made the most of her point guard duties thus far in 2012-13.aShe is not only one of four 49ers with a dou-ble-figure scoring average but she is the leading distributor of assists with 105.aHammonds has handed out at least eight as-sists in each of the games played thus far with the lone exception of four at UCF Nov. 28.aAfter matching her previous career high with eight in the first three contests, she established a new standard with 10 against Florida State Dec. 2 only to match it Dec. 8 against Stetson.

Unprecedented radio dealaThe Charlotte 49ers women’s basketball pro-gram and ESPN 730 AM, the flagship station for Charlotte athletics, have announced an unprec-edented agreement for upcoming Niners hoops games.

aFor the first time in the school’s women’s bas-ketball history, which dates back to 1975-76 and has been competing for the last 38 seasons, Char-lotte contests will be broadcast over the air. ESPN 730 AM has agreed to carry the 49ers’ Atlantic 10 matchups with Fordham (Jan. 13) and Duquesne (Feb. 3). Both games are Sundays and are slated to begin at 2 p.m.aFord will serve as one-half of the broadcast team for the two games. Bobby Rosinski, assistant program director at the station, will serve as play-by-play, while Ford will handle the color analyst duties, as he does with Matt Swierad for the Nin-ers’ men’s basketball home games.

Turning it around on the roadaCharlotte has only registered three winning road records in its seven years as a member of the Atlantic 10 Conference.aThe 49ers were above .500 for the 2005-06 (8-5), 2008-09 (11-3) and 2010-11 (11-4) campaigns.
