    Senior Researcher, Microsoft Research Asia

Abstract:Cloud computing is an emerging technology aiming to provide a variety of computing and storage services overthe Internet. It generally incorporates Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS), Platform as a Service (PaaS), andSoftware as a Service (SaaS). With Web 2.0&3.0, Internet multimedia is emerging as services. To provide rich

media services, multimedia computing has emerged as a noteworthy technology to generate, edit, process, searchmedia contents, such as images, video, audio, graphics, etc.

In this talk I will introduce the principal concepts of multimedia cloud computing and presents a novelframework. I will present multimedia cloud computing from Multimedia-aware Cloud (Media Cloud) andCloud-aware Multimedia (Cloud Media) perspectives. More specifically, first, I will present Media Cloud, whichaddresses how cloud can perform distributed multimedia processing and storage, and provide Quality of Service(QoS) provisioning for multimedia services. Then, I will present Cloud Media, which addresses how multimediaservices and applications can optimally utilize cloud computing resources to achieve better Quality ofExperience (QoE). I will use eHealth Monitoring, Photosynth, and Free Viewpoint Video as examples todemonstrate how multimedia cloud computing works for mobile devices.
