GarnetBY: JAMES DOWD

Garnet is January’s birthstone, that’s why I picked it. Certain people believe it has healing properties. Normally it is pictured as dark red like the picture on the right, but it comes in every color besides blue. The most used use for garnet it to make jewelry for example: rings, earrings, and pendants. The word “garnet” comes from the Latin word granatum which means pomegranate seed. Its not very hard to tell why! The streak is red. The luster is nonmetallic. The specific gravity or density is (gm/cm3). Finally the hardness is 6.5 to 7.5.

Devan StocksStichtite

The mineral stichtite hasmany different characteristics. The hardness of the mineral is 1.75 and the streak of the mineralIs pale violet blue, and the luster is waxy, greasy, and pearly. The specific gravity of the mineral is 2.1 well below average. There are two uses for this mineral. You can put them in a ring or

necklaces and you can put them in a crystal ball or anything else of that sort.

There are some interesting things about this mineral it was discovered in 1910, it also has a specific gravity well below average. This mineral is very rare, it is only found in three parts of the United States. I like the mineral stichtite and that’s why I choose it.
