Expression o Interest or Independent Reviewer - ACTGovernment Campaign Advertising
The ACT Legislative Assembly recently passed the Government Agencies (Campaign
Advertising) Act 2009. The purpose o the Act is to ensure the appropriate use o
public unds or advertising or other communication.
The ACT Government is seeking expressions o interest rom a suitably qualied
person to independently review proposed ACT Government advertising campaigns
over $40,000 to ensure they comply with the Act.
The Reviewer will provide limited assurance through inquiry, observation and
analysis o key documents and inormation that the Act and guidelines have been
adhered to. They will also be required to report bi-annually to the Legislative
Assembly.
The successul candidate will have extensive experience and expertise in one ormore o the ollowing areas:
communications;
media and advertising; and
legal and/or government administration.
The successul candidate will need to have the ability to exercise sound judgement
in the interpretation o the Act and related guidelines.
Remuneration the successul candidate will be remunerated on a per diem basis,
at a rate to be determined by the Remuneration Tribunal.

Seniors Week
ACT Seniors Week will run rom Sunday 21 to Sunday 28 March 2010. Theres
an action-packed program throughout the week eaturing indoor and outdoor
activities, as well as a range o inormation sessions specically aimed at olderpeople. The week-long program is designed to celebrate older Canberrans,
demonstrate their contribution to the local community, and also give those who

Free travel on ACTION buses or seniors
ACTION is providing ree O-Peak travel or holders o an ACT Seniors Card during
Seniors Week rom Monday 22 March to Friday 26 March 2010. O-Peak is any time
(weekday) between 9.00am and 4.30pm and again ater 6.00pm.
Canberrans 75 years or older are also entitled to ree travel on ACTION buses at any
time using an ACTION Gold Card. To receive your ree Gold Card visit a Canberra
Connect Shopront or the Drivers Licence Service in the Civic Library. Application
orms are also available online at www.action.act.gov.au
Seasonal u vaccine now ree to more peopleFrom January 2010 more p eople are eligible to receive ree seasonal inuenza
vaccine.
People in the ollowing groups are now eligible or ree annual inuenza vaccine
under the National Immunisation Program:
anyone aged 65 years and over;
all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 15 years and over; all pregnant women; and
anyone aged six months and over with medical conditions predisposing them to
severe inuenza, such as hear t disease, chronic lung conditions, chronic illnesses
and impaired immunity.
The vaccine or the Australian 2010 inuenza season has three strains - the
pandemic (H1N1) 2009 strain, an H3N2 strain and a B strain.
People who have had Panvax H1N1 inuenza vaccine can still have seasonal
inuenza vaccine. People listed in the above group should not delay seasonal
inuenza vaccination because o recent vaccination with Panvax H1N1 vaccine.
People who are not eligible or ree seasonal inuenza vaccine should still consider
vaccination against inuenza, particularly health care workers, child care workers
and parents o children less than six months o age. The vaccine will be available
rom GPs on prescription. Inuenza vaccine supplies or the private market are
expected to be in pharmacies rom mid April.
Some workplaces provide ree inuenza vaccination to their sta so it is worth
checking i your workplace has a sta inuenza vaccination program.
Inuenza vaccine or those eligible or ree vaccine under the National
Immunisation Program has been distributed to GP practices but check with your
GP to ensure they have stock on hand beore your appointment.

Large-scale controlled burns in Namadgi National Park
The Department o Territory and Municipal Services wishes to advise the public
that, weather permitting, large-scale controlled burns will be conducted in
the Brandy Flat and Mount Clear areas within Namadgi National Park, 20 40
kilometres south o Tharwa. These controlled burns are expected to commence on
Wednesday 24 March 2010 and are expected to run or seven days.
The controlled burns orm a key par t o this years Bushre Operations Plan and will
serve to reduce re uel loads. Residents are advised that smoke rom these b urns

Changes to Parking RulesFollowing updates to the Australian Road Rules, some changes have been m ade
to parking rules in the ACT, eective 15 March 2010. Trafc rule changes have also
been implemented.
The parking changes relate to:
stopping a vehicle on a painted island;
parking in time limited areas;
parking in a Road Related Area; and
parking in marked bays.

INVITATION TO COMMENT
Public submissions invited on Heritage Act reviewPublic submissions are being invited on a review o t he Heritage Act 2004, which
is the legislative basis o the ACT Heritage Council - the ACT Governments main
advisory body on heritage issues. The review will explore the eectiveness o the
Act, the tests used or awarding heritage status, the consistency o local criteria
with Commonwealth heritage criteria, and the synergies between ACT heritage andplanning laws. Heritage consultant, Mr Duncan Marshall will lead the review and the
community consultation, which will include workshops with stakeholders.
A discussion paper has been released, setting out the terms o reerence or the
review. Submissions can be made until Friday 7 May 2010. To nd out more visit

Drat Environmental Impact Statement: Kings HighwaySouthern Deviation drop-in sessions
The ACT Government invites members o the community interested in the Kings
Highway Southern Deviation Drat Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) to attend
an inormation drop-in session. As part o the consultation process, ACT Government
representatives and consultants will be available to answer your questions on the
Drat EIS.

Codifcation o the Change o Use Charge
In the 2009-10 Budget, the ACT Government agreed to the codication
o the Change o Use Charge system in the Territory. The local consultant
Macroeconomics.com.au has been engaged to undertake this project, led by
Proessor Des Nicholls o the Australian National University.
A report has been developed by the consultants, which includes the codication
schedules expected to be implemented in the Territory. This report is available at
www.communityengagement.act.gov.au
Public input into this discussion paper is welcome and submissions should be
orwarded to [email protected] by COB 31 March 2010.
Molonglo Valley Strategic Assessment
The ACT Planning and Land Authority invites public comment on the:
Draft Strategic Assessment Report of the Molonglo Valley Plan for the Protection of
Matters o National Environmental Signicance, which evaluates matters o national
environmental signicance and recommends a range o management and mitigation
measures; and
Framework for the Draft Molonglo Valley Plan for the Protection of Matters of
National Environmental Signicance, which will set out t he policies and procedures
to ensure development will not cause unacceptable impacts on matters o national
environmental signicance.

ACT Legislation RegisterUser Survey 2010
The ACT legislation register is an authorised electronic statute book that provides the
community with ree and quick access to ACT legislation and related inormation.
The register is central to the making, notication, commencement, operation,
interpretation, proo, republication, amendment and repeal o legislation and
instruments made under legislation. The register has been in operation since 12
September 2001. Since that time it has had many enhancements and most recently a
new search unction has been installed.
The Parliamentary Counsels Ofce (PCO) is seeking your input to help us identiy
where the register is meeting your needs and where the register could do more.
Whether youre a regular user or will be having a look at the register or the rst time,
please let us know what you think.

Northbourne Avenue and London Circuit roadworks
London Circuit and parts o Northbourne Avenue will undergo signicant saety
improvements and maintenance over the next three m onths. The works include
replacing deteriorated sections o road, improvements to the existing on-road
cycle paths and ootpaths and the provision o new on-road cycle paths on
sections o London Circuit.
The ACT Government is ast-tracking the roadworks by scheduling overnight and
weekend work. Lane closures will be kept to o-peak times t o minimise the impact
on road users. Road users are encouraged to allow or extra commuting time when
travelling through the aected areas.
