No, it didn’t have a multi-million dollar movie about blue deformities from another planet (I am of course referring to Avatar) and it didn’t signal the premiere of a show that would raise eight tanned Ital- ians to complete stardom. When compar- ing 2010 to other years, it doesn’t stand out the most. However, that’s not to say that the past year was a waste in cinema and television. There were many movies and shows that stood out and saved the decade from mediocrity. Much has been debated about the quality of the movies this year but without a doubt there are a handful of films that were really quite amazing. To start off, in a year that lacked strong comedies, the one that really stood out was the brilliant Easy A that was a breath of fresh air. With an original plot, and humor that compares to that of Mean Girls, Easy A made audi- ences laugh, cry, and acquire a sense of courage and integrity. Moving to more of the dramatic and fantasy films, Alice in Won- derland deserves an honorable mention for being a fun time at the movies but the film that really takes the cake in this category is Harry Potter and the Deathly Hollows Part One. Setting the tone for the final install- ment to premiere June 2011, the movie is definitely the darkest of the Potter films and arguably one of the best. Despite the fun, action, and tears (r.i.p Dobby), what really made the film amazing was the cast who have defiantly grown into pro actors. How- ever, the films that really saved 2010 were Black Swan and The Social Network. Natalie Portman’s performance in Black Swan is a performance that will be sure to get recog- nition from the academy. Also, director of The Social Network Aaron Sorkin’s, created a brilliant script and assembled a fine cast of actors that made the film much more than just “the facebook movie.” 2010 didn’t offer many new and exciting shows but many of the shows that came back for new seasons were excellent. New episodes of Modern Family made any Wednesday night hilarious while Monday nights was made by Gossip Girl and 90210. Thursdays nights on the CW are all about Vampire Diaries, with its amazing storyline and very attractive cast. It seems as if the best and most watched shows of 2010 were the programs that returned to continue their franchises. As a child we see it as real life and as we get older it takes us back to our youth. This year seemes to have had quite a few of the best animated films the whole family can enjoy. 1. TOY Story 3- Woody, Buzz, Jessie, Bulls eye, and Andy are back for what seems to be the last of the well-known animation series. Andy is going to college and all the toys are worried he’ll forget all about them. When they get accidentally donated to Sunnyxside Day Care, they have to survive the harshness of cruel toddlers and the evil scheme of a heartbroken bear. This movie is packed with action, adventure, laughs, and even tears. 2. HOW To Train Your Dragon- A story about a young Viking lad named Hiccup who feels as if he doesn’t belong. In the time where dragons roamed, he secretly captures one of the most dangerous dragons of all time, Night Fury. Hiccup befriends this dragon (whom he names Toothless) and they end up going through the biggest adventure that will change the way Vikings see drag- ons. 3. DESPICABLE Me- This animation follows an “evil” villain Gru, who is trying to redeem himself as the best thief of all time. He then adopts three orphan kids as part of his plan but we see his caring side as he grows fond of these children. Descpicable Me leans more towards children but was still enjoy- able for all. The year of television ad- diction and a somewhat good year in film. PHOTOS FROM TVFANATIC.COM AND VAMPIRES.COM
