Welcome Dear YMCA Members and Friends, I hope this summer finds you well. This will be our first full summer with renovation projects completely behind us, and we hope we have everything worked out to your satisfaction with regard to schedules. The summer season brings on a unique blend of activity, as our school age programs will be filling the building during times that are usually oriented for our adult population. We appreciate your understanding, as the YMCA is truly for everyone, and this time of year we make it obvious to all! Other changes coming this summer: A whole new “YMCA brand.” The YMCA of the USA is rolling out a new brand platform in July, so you will notice some visual changes in the weeks, months and even years that fol-low. We will be emphasizing what it really means to be a member of the YMCA. You do not simply belong to a “club”; you belong to an organization that thrives on Youth Development, Healthy Living and Social Respon-sibility. We are also re-tooling our strategic plan. Hopefully you have had the opportunity to participate in the member survey. It will help our staff and board to mold what we do for the members and community for the future. Thank you for being a part of our YMCA family. I look forward to seeing you here this summer. Best Regards, Laurie O’Shaughnessy Executive Director/CEO

Group Cycle

Cycle Reebok programs are designed to teach riders effective indoor cycling tech-niques, prepare them for outdoor activities, prevent injury and undue biomechanical stress in both environments while having fun in a group setting with motivational mu-sic/instructors to guide you. We use functional training of the torso and upper body in static seated positions, thereby improving postural alignment, strength and endurance, not only for the cy-cling activity itself, but also for other activities of daily living. This activity resembles actual road riding, allowing you to sit, “stand”, climb hills and sprint flats. Classes are appropriate for all levels of riders. Class size is limited to 10 participants per class. $1/class for Members $8/class for Non-members Pre-registration is required to ensure a seat. Drop-in is available if class registration is not full. Please see MONTHLY CLASS SCHEDULE in the Welcome Center for up-to-date times.

YOGA/PILATES/STRETCH Gentle Yoga: Traditional yoga poses and slow stretching with emphasis on breathing techniques, meditation and relaxation. Pilates Plus: Classic Pilate moves developed to increase flexibility while building core strength. PLUS: Standing balance core exercises to strengthen your body in functional range of motion. Tai Chi/Qi Gong: An ancient form of exercise that is often called “meditation in motion”. These slow moving exercises will increase flexibility, mobility and balance promoting overall health and well being. Qi-gong is a Chinese healing art that decreases stress and improves health and vitality energizing the body. Yoga for Fitness: Traditional yoga moves adapted for “fitness” classes to learn and practice standing /floor yoga moves. A flow pattern of strength movements originating from the core will build your strength and endurance while increasing your flexi-bility and balance. Yogalates: Combine the best of Yoga and Pilates moves to increase your flexibility while strengthening your core. Appropriate and beneficial for all levels of exercisers and a great compliment to your other workouts. INTERMEDIATE YOGA: An emphasis on raising the heart rate with flowing standing postures (Vinyasa) and a segment including yoga moves fo-cused on core strengthening and ending with deep stretching and relaxation.

Our Mission The mission of the Canandaigua Family YMCA is to put Christian Principles into practice through programs that build healthy spirit, mind and body for all.

Our Goal Financial assistance is based on ability to pay. It is the policy of the Canandaigua Family YMCA that no person be denied membership or program participation by reason of inability to pay fees. Funds made available for financial assistance are pro-vided through the United Way and the YMCA’s annual Caring for Kids Campaign.

At the YMCA, one of our most important goals has always been to enrich the lives of kids in our community. But when some are left out, it leaves us all a bit poorer. As a person with vested interest in the future of your community, you can help these kids grow into responsible, successful adults. YMCA activities help children develop valuable skills, gain confidence and build self-esteem.

By contributing to the YMCA Caring for Kids Campaign, you can help us teach these young people such impor-tant values as caring, honesty, responsibility and respect.
