Abbey Road Pre-College Academic Study Abroad and Enrichment Summer Programs for High School Students, Various Locations Abbey Road provides quality academic study abroad summer programs that facilitate cross-cultural understanding, personal growth and academic enrichment. Abbey Road was created through a collaboration of the best young professionals and educators from top schools and esteemed institutions in the United States and Europe. The University of Alabama Department of Computer Science offers summer camps for high school students and middle schools students. Students learn about multiple topics relating to the field of computer science and learn to program a computer in different contexts. Students have the opportunity to learn in a project-based environment and to participate in exciting hands-on activities. The high school writing camps include Writing for the Act and Writing a College Admission Essay. The middle school writing camps focus on high interest topics and enable students to improve their writing skills. Auburn University's English Department offers a Creative Writing Camp for high school students. The Creative Writing Camp is designed to give emerging writers an opportunity to develop their writing skills while living on Auburn University's campus. Tennessee During this exciting two-week summer residential program, students will have an opportunity to experience “hands-on” learning in small groups. Students will create and test parachutes and helicopters in order to analyze data, make predictions, test conjectures, draw conclusions and make decisions. Students will also be taught how to use computer software to help represent and analyze the data. Topic in both descriptive and inferential statistics will be explored during the process of solving these engineering-based optimization and variation problems. A one-day field trip is planned to provide students the opportunity to see mathematics and statistics in use in the real world. Babson Entrepreneurial Development Experience is a residential, academic credit bearing experience for the current or aspiring entrepreneur who wants to create innovative, real-world solutions to economic, social, and environmental issues through the lens of Entrepreneurial Thought and Action. Twenty-six (26) North American students entering their senior year of high school are selected each year for our prestigious Fellowship. The Fellowship begins with a 5-week, all-expenses-paid summer program in Israel where Fellows travel through Israel, explore their Jewish identity, and engage with thinkers, authors, artists, and educators in a transformative experience, while learning about themselves and each other. The program brings together students from diverse backgrounds to study architecture, urban design and sustainable city planning through a series of workshops, lectures, field trips, and design:build studios. Participants will experience what it is like to work on their own design projects in a studio environment. With a locally-based project, students will have the opportunity to make first-hand observations of the area through numerous guided site visits, which will help inform the individual design proposals. Additionally, students will learn about the construction process through a hands-on design/build project in CED’s fabrication workshop. Working along trained professionals, students will build a full size structure for the benefit of a local community organization. Throughout the 2-week intensive program, students will make connections between cutting edge scientific research, popular culture and contemporary arts. Lab visits, workshops, hands-on experiments, and meetings with world renowned scientists will be balanced with visits to museums, daily movie screenings and meetings with famous contemporary artists who collaborate with scientists. Students are able to immerse themselves in study of a particular academic subject taught by graduate students and/or renowned faculty researchers within the field of study. The program is specific to college-bound high school students, so students must be in high school, grades 9-12, and have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.3 or above. Through engaging lectures and hands-on laboratory classes, students learn about normal molecular and cellular biology, and then learn how these normal

You will pick and choose your courses from a wide selection, so that you can try a range of subjects tailored to your interests. Carnegie Mellon University, Summer Programs for Diversity : Pittsburgh, PA Carnegie Mellon’s Pre-College programs allow students to explore college life both in the classroom and outside to see what’s going on outside of campus. Students are able to mingle with people from all over the world and participate in exciting summer activities that include architecture, art, design, drama, music and even advanced placement and early admission.The best part? There are no tuition housing or dining fees for students who are selected to attend the Summer Programs for Diversity! Program website: http://admission.enrollment.cmu.edu/pages/summer-programs-for-diversity Case Western Reserve University, Pre-College Scholars Program: Cleveland, Ohio High school students wishing to take regular university summer classes may apply to enroll through the Pre-College Scholars program. The Pre-College Scholars Program at Case Western Reserve University is very selective and competitive and is designed to give highly motivated and able secondary school students the opportunity to enroll in challenging college courses prior to graduating from high school, either in the summer or during the academic year. The Pre-Scholars application is available on-line in March with an application deadline for summer enrollment in April. University of Chicago – The Young Scholars Summer Program (YSP) The University of Chicago’s Department of Mathematics offers an enrichment program, entitled the Young Scholars Program, which focuses on the subject of mathematics. The Summer Program is a free four-week day camp; mainly for Chicago Public School students (select suburban and private school students are admitted). Students attend daily seminars given by University professors and solve mathematics problems based on these seminars. Topics include number theory, theory of field extensions, geometry and probability. Students also learn computer skills. Tuition is free for those accepted. Given the existing challenges confronting our nation and, assuming that problems in years to come will be equally consequential, the job of preparing the next generation of leaders may be one of the most important actions we can take now to ensure our well being in the future. The Foundation for Teaching Economics is committed to finding and nurturing those budding leaders. Students who are currently juniors in high school and will complete their junior year by this summer are eligible to attend an EFL program. Sophomores applicants will be considered.
