Dear colleagues and friends:

Welcome to the Sixth Annual Kingdom Advisors Conference! We are delighted to have you as a part of this year’s conference, and we look forward to the opportunity to interact with you. Our team has worked hard to provide a great conference and we are excited that you have made the investment to join us.

The theme for our conference is “Passion & Purpose.” Our prayer is that you would renew your passion for the unique Kingdom opportunity that you have and leave with a heightened awareness of God’s incredible

purpose for your life. Our outstanding speakers and breakouts will encourage you in your calling and give you practical ideas to become a more effective disciple of Christ in the marketplace. We have intentionally included times for prayer and worship so we can be renewed as we continue to offer ourselves for our Master’s use.

I want to encourage you to make the most of your time here by being an active participant in the conference events. Strike up conversations, ask questions, meet our partners, and broaden not only your knowledge and skills, but also your networking and prayer circle.

We are delighted to come together for a few days as we seek to explore how we can live with passion and purpose for God’s glory. Thank you for your presence and participation!

Since 1982, The National Christian Foundation (NCF) has helped thousands of people give close to a billion dollars to the ministries and causes they believe in – rather than to the federal government in the form of taxes. NCF helps:

Individual givers make a greater impact with their charitable giving, give practically any asset entrusted to them and balance their giving with income needs.

Ministries and churches offer their supporters innovative ways of giving, which can lead to signifi cant new funding for their organization.

Professional advisors (fi nancial planners, CPAs, attorneys and others) offer their clients charitable giving expertise, which builds stronger client relationships.

To learn more, visit NCF on the web at www.nationalchristian.com or call 800.681.6223.

Crown Financial Ministries is a merger of two ministries: Larry Burkett’s Christian Financial Concepts and Howard Dayton’s Crown Ministries. Crown’s mission is to train Christians to handle money from God’s perspective. Crown’s primary vehicle is a very well-attested small group Bible study designed for use at the local church level.

Generous Giving was launched in 2000 by The Maclellan Foundation, a recognized leader in Christian grant-making for 60 years. Generous Giving’s mission is to motivate followers of Christ toward greater biblical generosity, and encourages givers to live with open hands to God. LARRY BURKETT AWARDT. RANDALL FAIRFAX, CFP®, HIGHLAND CONSULTING ASSOCIATES, CLEVELAND, OHIO

Randy Fairfax understands that faith is worked out in experiences and relationships. Every day, at Highland Consulting Associates, he offers purposeful, biblical guidance to his clients, as he takes to heart the faith-lessons of his own life.

As a young man, Fairfax spent a year preparing for a mission trip abroad, only to come up $100 short with one day left. That day, an anonymous donor provided the funds that allowed him to take the trip, leaving a lasting impression of God’s provision. The

power of that experience permanently impacted Fairfax, who still seeks to trust God in all and who sees himself as a steward of God’s resources. During his early years in banking, Fairfax saw that many clients were negatively impacted by a combination of “less than optimal” technical tools combined with the inherent confusion, lack of security, and family communication issues surrounding fi nances. He also realized that the Bible addresses all of these areas and applies to both believers and non-believers. The realization that he could help clients “exercise biblical Truth, whether they personally believed it or not,” gave Fairfax greater purpose in his professional life.

While he understands that “wealth creates loud noises, unintended distractions, and confused perspectives for people,” Fairfax knows that by bringing biblical wisdom into a client conversation, he can clarify confusion by seeking to “inform, understand, ask the right questions, and advocate on their behalf.” By bringing Truth to bear on client relationships, Fairfax fi nds that clients are better able to steward their resources intentionally, exercise greater generosity, and understand their purpose. Over his life, Fairfax has been impacted by the Christian infl uence of close family members, pastors, friends, and other servant leaders in the business world. He sees ministry as “using the tools, abilities, and resources I have where I am to enjoy and refl ect God’s goodness and glory.” Because he humbly embraces life’s experiences and the infl uence of godly relationships, Fairfax willingly and confi dently takes his faith to the marketplace each day.

Randy Fairfax, CFP® and Qualifi ed Kingdom Advisor™, received a BS in Accounting and MBA in Finance from The University of Akron. He is active in Kingdom Advisors as a leader of the Cleveland Community, the Charitable Giving Group, and the Business Group, as well as being a Task Force member and an advisor-coach. Fairfax and his wife, Courtney, attend The Chapel and have three grown children: Ryan (married to Laura), Jordan (married to Rachel), and Breanne.

Beginning in the early 1970s, while on staff with Campus Crusade for Christ, Larry Burkett began to teach the Body of Christ how to apply biblical wisdom to their fi nancial affairs. As founder of Christian Financial Concepts, which later became Crown Financial Ministries, Burkett’s ministry had a tremendous impact, the results of which will benefi t generations to come. He was a spiritual giant in his generation.

Early in ministry, Burkett recognized the importance of the role that professional advisors play in encouraging the fi nancial decisions of their clients. He had a desire to develop a generation of godly fi nancial professionals who would integrate biblical wisdom into their counsel.

Kingdom Advisors is a product of Burkett’s work and vision. Beginning as the Christian Financial Planning Institute in 1997, Kingdom Advisors has grown to over 4,000 members and is committed to training an army of Christian fi nancial professionals who are passionate about helping their clients manage their fi nancial resources according to God’s timeless wisdom.

In appreciation of Burkett’s life and his desire to see a network of Christian fi nancial professionals, Kingdom Advisors established the Larry Burkett Award.

This award recognizes annually a Christian fi nancial professional who has demonstrated by their life and work those qualities that epitomize what Burkett desired to see in a Christian fi nancial professional:

• An evangelical faith and fervor • Christian character in its most

complete sense • Unparalleled professional competency • Integration of biblical wisdom into all

of their advice and counsel

The award reminds the Kingdom Advisors’ community of the debt owed to Larry Burkett for his ministry and motivates us to live out of his vision in our professional lives.

PRACTICE MANAGEMENT AWARDJAMES L. UNDERWOOD, CPA/PFS, CFP®, AEP TARPLEY & UNDERWOOD FINANCIAL ADVISORS LLC, ATLANTA, GA

Jim Underwood and Harvey Tarpley, met at church when Underwood was young. When they started Tarpley & Underwood in 1978, they shared a desire to live out their faith in the marketplace. For many years, that faith was evidenced informally in their practice. However, a few years ago, in response to a desire to clarify the integration of biblical wisdom in their practice management, they formally defi ned their mission and core values around biblical principles. One of those core values is: “We are

focused on a world view that is guided by biblical principles and an acknowledgement of our Creator.”

While Underwood and his fellow shareholders have long shared a relationship with Christ in common, clarifying their mission and core values has helped them be intentional in making biblically based decisions. They now:

• Have a benchmark for making decisions to ensure that their clients receive biblically based advice.

• Believe that by delivering professional services with excellence and integrity, doors will be opened and clients will be drawn to the biblical values that undergird his fi rm.

Additionally, as advisors practice from a Christian worldview, they, “earn the right to be heard” by their clients.

Underwood believes that integrating faith and practice is about “understanding and living biblical values, evidenced by how you treat and advise others.” He says, “we bend over backwards to do what’s the right thing for the client, as opposed to what might be in our fi nancial best interest.”

Jim Underwood, CPA/PFS, CFP®, AEP, graduated from Georgia Tech with an Industrial Engineering degree and received his MPA from Georgia State. He occasionally contributes to the Atlanta Business Chronicle, is a past president of the Georgia Society of CPAs, and is a past member of the governing council of the American Institute of CPAs. He and his wife, Kay, attend North Point Community Church, where Underwood serves as an elder, community group leader, and HOST Team member. He helps to lead a local study group for Kingdom Advisors, as well. Kay and Jim have three grown children: Elizabeth, Kathryn, and James.

The vision of Kingdom Advisors is to equip and motivate Christian Financial Professionals to serve the body of Christ by implementing biblical wisdom into their lives and practices.

Christian fi nancial professionals should not only be knowledgeable about the biblical principles that apply to the stewardship of God’s resources, but also strive to integrate those principles into the advice they give to their clients. However, the application of biblical wisdom does not end with the client. It is essential for a Christian Financial Professional to incorporate these principles into the management and operation of their practice as well.

Kingdom Advisors created the Kingdom Advisors Practice Management Award to recognize Kingdom Advisors Members who have intentionally and systematically integrated their faith into their fi nancial services practice.

The Kingdom Advisors Practice Management Award recognizes:

• Outstanding integration of biblical principles in practice management.

• Creation of a unique biblical culture which exemplifi es Jesus Christ and results in a lasting impact on clients, staff, vendors, and community.

• A practice from which Kingdom Advisors members can learn from and emulate.

FOUNDATION AWARD GENEROSITY AWARD

Kingdom Advisors awards an advisor who partners with a local Christian foundation to maximize generosity in their clients’ lives. Local foundations allow individuals to give strategically to advance Kingdom purposes. Kingdom Advisors, which partners with local Christian foundations around the country, recognizes Jeff Thomas of Morgan Stanley Smith Barney, for his partnership with the Houston Christian Foundation.

In Thomas’ words, the Houston Christian Foundation is, “a community that has come together to promote generosity in the name of Christ. It has helped me communicate and execute for clients with resources I’ve never had.”

The relationship between Thomas and the foundation was an answer to Thomas’ struggle to discover the best practices for presenting biblical wisdom to clients, without hitting them over the head with chapter and verse. Thomas’ turning point of generosity happened when a spiritual mentor told him, “you’d better be living what you are teaching.” That advice prompted Thomas and his wife to make giving the fi rst priority in their budget. They became convinced of their need to be Kingdom-minded in their fi nances.

Subsequently, Thomas connected with local foundation president, Peter Forbes, who shared how working with the local foundation and becoming a member of Kingdom Advisors could allow Thomas to begin to reach his goals of:

• becoming more intentional about delivering biblical wisdom to clients, and

• teaching other advisors how to do the same.

Through his involvement with the Houston Christian Foundation, Thomas has fulfi lled his dreams of sharing biblical wisdom with clients. He says that his journey felt like, “God had told me to build a sailboat. I was doing it in my garage, building a Sunfi sh that had a crooked mast and a hole in the bottom. After I cleared the barrier of becoming more generous personally, God brought me a relationship with Peter Forbes. He showed me the America’s Cup Racer, gave me a sweater, and brought me on board.”

Jeff Thomas, CPA and Qualifi ed Kingdom Advisor™, holds a B.S. in Business from Trinity University in San Antonio. Barron’s listed Thomas as one of the top 1000 fi nancial advisors in 2009. Thomas contributes to Kingdom Advisors as an advisor-coach, a study group leader, and a Task Force member. He and his wife, Dolly, live in Houston with daughters Ally (17) and Sophie (9).

The Generosity Award recognizes an advisor who models generous giving in their own life and who shares the power of generosity with clients. Faith-driven generosity brings transformation to individuals’ hearts and lives, and, in turn, empowerment to Kingdom work. The Generosity Award goes to Steve Scalici of Merrill Lynch, whose story of personal growth in generosity, and its impact on his client interaction, is inspiring.

Over the last eight years, Scalici and his wife, Apryl, have been on a journey of generosity. After reading Randy Alcorn’s book, Money, Possessions, and Eternity, the couple prayed and wrote down what they felt God was telling each of them to give. They both wrote 15%. A year later, they repeated the exercise and both wrote down 20%. About a year later, Scalici was impacted by the fi fth principle in Alcorn’s book, The Treasure Principle, which says, “God prospers me not to increase my standard of living, but rather my standard of giving.” This principle challenged the couple to look at their fi nances differently. They talked and prayed, and, in the end, decided to cap their lifestyle.

While the freedom of living a set lifestyle and giving the excess away has been transformational for Scalici and his family, another powerful transformation has occurred in the way that he counsels his clients. He has found that, “Many people are exactly where we were. They spend money just because they can.” By sharing the fact that they have chosen to cap their lifestyle, Scalici fi nds that the door opens to conversations about generosity with clients. He is convinced that the power of a real story is very powerful. “No one can dispute your story.”

Is generosity good for business? Scalici says, “It’s actually a poor business model. We get paid for the assets we manage; yet we tell them to give them away. I can’t explain how it works, but it does. That’s not why I encourage them to give, but I can’t complain about the results. The best part has been seeing the light go off for my clients and being able to infl uence them in this area of generosity.”

Steve Scalici, CFP and Qualifi ed Kingdom Advisor™, has a BS in Finance/Banking from Palm Beach Atlantic University. He and his wife, Apryl, have daughers Hannah (10), Abby (7), and Emma (5). They attend Christ Fellowship and are involved with youth through Urban Youth Impact and the Heath Evans Foundation. Scalici has written for Good News of South Florida, Crosswalk, and is involved with Kingdom Advisors as a Community Group leader, a Charter Member, and a Task Force member.

CROWN FINANCIAL MINISTRIES AWARD

Crown Financial Ministries seeks to “Equip people worldwide to learn, apply, and teach God’s fi nancial principles so that they may know Christ more intimately, be free to serve Him, and fund the Great Commission.” The partnership between Crown and Kingdom Advisors is longstanding, and the parallel purposes of both organizations create a synergistic relationship. The Crown Financial Ministries Award celebrates an advisor

who utilizes Crown’s ministry offerings as an extension of his or her own personal ministry.

Roger Sulhoff was a reluctant convert to Crown classes. After “years” of hearing about the class, he and his wife found it impactful beyond what they expected, and he has been spearheading his own Crown movement ever since. His involvement began as a small group co-leader and he went on to serve on the Crown board at his church. He began recommending the class to clients and friends. Then, as one who was building a network of securities offi ces across the country at the time, he began recommending Crown to his more than 575 representatives.

Sulhoff says, “I never looked at volunteering and doing Crown as creating an asset to my practice.” However, as Crown became more integrated with his professional life, client relationships improved. His ability to communicate improved because he was on the same page as clients who had biblically-based understanding of budgeting, cash fl ow, estate, and charitable planning.

Sulhoff has since sold his national offi ces. He and his son, John, opened Private Client Advisory, Inc., a Family Wealth Management fi rm, in Gainesville, Georgia. Upon becoming involved at Lakewood Baptist Church, Sulhoffs’ passion for Crown ignited a program there, and in four years, 500 people completed Crown classes. Sulhoff also organizes “Business By The Book” seminars in North Georgia. Currently, he leads the Crown Special Edition series in his weekly men’s group.

In addition to Crown, he serves on the Global Advisory Council of Vision 360, The Heritage Foundation Presidents Council, and Kiwanis International, and is an elder at Mount Paran Church of God. He served on the board of the International Association For Financial Planning and is a recipient of numerous industry awards. Sulhoff holds a Bachelors of Business Administration and served seven years US Army Active Reserves. Roger and his wife Nancy have four sons, two daughters, fi ve spouses and nine grandchildren.

Bob CoyAt the age of 24, Bob Coy left an executive position in the music industry to serve as an Associate Pastor with Calvary Chapel of Las Vegas. In 1985, Bob and his wife, Diane, moved to South Florida and began Calvary Chapel of Fort Lauderdale. As Senior Pastor, he has become well known for his unique style in expounding the scriptures, making them come alive and relate to those of us living in the 21st Century. From the fi rst meeting in a living room with four in attendance, Calvary Chapel Ft. Lauderdale has now become home to thousands of men and women in South Florida. Though many have tried to attribute the rapid growth to numerous reasons, no one is more surprised by the phenomenon than Pastor Bob Coy, who gives the total credit and glory to God alone.

“Building the Bridge from Calling to Stewardship” Bob Shank - International Ballroom D

For the committed Christian, Kingdom Calling and Kingdom Stewardship are both important considerations. “Strategic Visionary Planning”Gordon D’Angelo - International Ballroom E

The concept of God’s power can be called upon with accuracy and abundance. You can positively engage a multitude of lives creating predetermined positive outcomes. Your visionary plan is a powerful part of God’s plan. Find out how accessing God’s inspiring energy in visionary form can empower your life.

“ Adding Intuition and Precision to Asset Allocation with Dedicated Portfolios” Steve Huxley - International Ballroom A

Clients sometimes have only a hazy understanding of the rationale behind their stock, bond, and cash allocation. The nuances of classic modern portfolio theory, asset allocation, and standard deviations can hardly be called intuitive concepts, especially for retirees. Dedicated portfolios provide a powerfully intuitive way to bring precision to the asset allocation decision. Coupled with lifetime planning, the asset dedication process can provide protected income streams over personal time horizons and lead to allocations that clients easily understand.

In this session, we will explore the divine integration of the mystery of God’s Lordship with our stewardship and generosity. We will provide practical tools to discover God’s economy for yourself and your clients. You will know you’ve made the transition when you are spiritually renewed, stewarding wisely, and generously living!

Rusty Leonard - International Ballroom E

Rusty Leonard will take a hard look at the practical and philosophical obstacles all advisors face as they sincerely seek to meld their faith and their practice together. Rusty will discuss the issues he faced in his own journey from a top secular money manager to one who has committed to integrate his work and faith in a manner that honors the Lord. Please join us for what is sure to be a provocative and thoughtful session.

Confl ict can be resolved constructively, yielding closer relationships, or destructively, which causes an erosion of trust between two or more people. Join us at the “Managing Confl ict” breakout to fi nd out how to engage with those around you in a redeemed fashion, keeping short accounts. The expected results include stronger relationships, a more peaceful existence, and overall improved communications with others.

Time is your most valuable asset whether you want to get more done - or work fewer hours - getting organized is the key to increased profi t, productivity, and peace of mind.

“Why Should You Play To Your Strengths?”Andy Goddard - International Ballroom E

Unfortunately, most of us have little sense of our true talents and strengths, much less the ability to build our lives around them. Guided by our parents, teachers, managers and others in our world, we become experts in our weaknesses and spend our lives trying to repair these fl aws, while our strengths lie dormant and neglected. Andy Goddard, a professional coach at Halftime, will examine what this looks like and show you a way to lock into your unique God-given strengths.
