My Fellow Brothers, I would like to thank all of you for making the summer con-clave such a successful weekend. As a Sand Hill staff member, I really appreciate all of your help in getting the tents up and help-ing set up camp. You all have helped influence the campers this summer with your hard work and dedication. This year will be a busy year for our lodge. Not only are we hosting section conference, but we have many lodge goals to fulfill. As the lodge chief, I am looking forward to working with all of you to make this lodge year even more successful than last year. If you have not signed up to help out with section confer-ence, please make sure you talk to Marty Shermetaro, who is the Section Conference Chairman. We need your help and dedica-tion to make this conference a success! Our next lodge weekend is September 5th to the 7th at Sand Hill. The theme is Sport-O-Rama, so make sure you bring your favorite jerseys! We will also be working on projects in order to get ready for section conference. It is sure to be an awesome weekend. My brothers, I am extremely proud to be the Timuquan Lodge 340 Lodge Chief. I thank you all for your dedication and support through this busy lodge year. As Nutiket, the guard of the fire says, “Gather your hearts the tinder, lay the oak and pine to-gether.” I look forward to seeing you all in September. WWW,

Lodge Adviser’s Corner Mr. Eric Renker, Timuquan Lodge Adviser

At our Summer Conclave, we were honored to host the Section Assist Team, headed by Section Chief Quentin Lesser, and including Section Vice Chief Sean Ferrier, As-sociate Section Adviser Ken Griffin, and Assist Team Coordinator Mackie Zewalk. Besides their welcome review of our Lodge Goals for the year, they participated in our weekend like the true brothers they are! Some important changes in adult adviser roles have come about recently. As you recall, there was an opening for Chapter Adviser in Arpeika which was ably filled by Jay Vann. He has, unfortunately, had to step down, but for a happy reason: he has accepted a position with West Central Florida Council as Calusa District Executive! We look forward to a long relationship with him as a Professional Scouter. Stepping

up to the plate for Arpeika is Mr. Eric Cupps. Many of you may remember Eric as a youth, and I advised him as Administrative Vice Chief some years ago. He brings resources and dedication to the job that will help keep the momentum going in our Northern Chapter! Relieving Mr. Mark Sheiderer as Hiyaraba Chapter Adviser is someone familiar to scores of Scouts and Scouters: Mr. Kenny Knous! We appreciate him step-ping forward to support a great Chapter and Chapter Chief. In filling the Chapter 2 Adviser role, we were left with an open-ing for Camp Service Adviser. Another good friend of the Lodge has stepped forward: Mr. John Petruccelli. Mrs. Margie Radoll has moved out of her role as Adviser to the Brotherhood and Retention Committee and will be working with Chuck Wagon. We appreci-ate all of her hard work and dedi-cated support! Taking her place will be Mrs. Kelli Cliff. Kelli has experienced the Scouting move-ment as a youth, and has some great ideas for working with her Chairman to help make Timu-quan strong! I will not be at the September weekend with you this year. I begin two weeks Coast Guard active duty in New London, CT, on the 7th. In addition, I will participate in the first of several “Executive Weekends” for the Shenandoah University College of Pharmacy Non-Traditional PharmD program (yes, I’m going

Arpeika Chapter Report Yusuf El-Shihibi, Arpeika Chapter Chief Mr. Eric Cupps, Chapter Adviser My fellow brothers, Right now my chapter is one of the smallest in the lodge. Under my term as chapter chief, I am going to change that. In the next year I am going to increase troop elec-tions and attendance at conclave weekends. We have started having regular chapter meetings, and I am in the process of planning chapter activities. I have heard sto-ries of the glory days of chapter one, and I want a second time of prosper for my chapter to come while I am chap-ter chief. To all youth and adults that are in chapter one, get involved! You were elected into the order by your troop who have seen your leadership through your unit, make them proud and stand up and make a difference in the lodge. I appre-ciate the members that have voted me back into this po-sition. I hope to come back this year with newfound en-thusiasm and new ideas to help boost our attendance and membership rate! Any of you from the Yayi-Yaha Chapter that are reading this, please talk to your fellow scouts and scoutmasters and tell them how much fun the O.A. is and have their troop schedule an O.A. Election! Outina Chapter Report Taylor Briggs, Outina Chapter Chief Mr. Bob Hall, Chapter Adviser

Hello my fellow Brothers. My name is Taylor Briggs, and thank you for electing me to be your new Outina Chapter Chief for Timuquan Lodge 340. Some of my goals for the new year are more participation at chapter meetings and OA func-tions, increasing Brotherhood membership, and chapter involvement in community service pro-jects. The chapter cannot accomplish these goals unless you attend your chapter meetings and speak out about how we can do this. Our chapter meetings are on the first Thursday of every month at Clearview United Methodist Church. Please attend these meetings. This is where you can make a difference in making Outina Chapter the Greatest Chapter in our Lodge. We will resume these meetings again in August. Make plans now to attend our summer picnic August 23 at 3:00 at Sawgrass Park in St. Peters-burg. Thanks to Mr. Hall, we should have a new chapter banner to display. Bring a covered dish to share with your fellow arrowmen. We can talk about chapter goals and answer questions about the next Section Conference in 2009 at Sand Hill Scout Reservation. Timuquan Lodge will be host-ing this event. Think of what you can do to fulfill your obligation to the lodge and in making this the best Section Conference ever. See me about signing up for a committee. If you are an ordeal member, signing up will satisfy one of your first year arrowman award requirements. If you need additional information, please call me at ________ or you can contact me through the lodge bulletin board located at www.timuquanlodge.org, and my email is __________________________. Lodge Officer Reports What your Lodge Officers are up to

Matthew Hall, Administrative Vice Chief Mr. Scott Payne, Associate Adviser

Fellow Brothers of the Wimachtendienk, I hope you are all doing great and just as excited as I am about our lodge. For save of time, I would just like to send my gratitude and thanks to all those that attended, were inducted, or sealed their membership at the sum-mer conclave. So let’s focus on the future. Our lodge year is just beginning and there innumerable ways that you can get active. Join a committee. There are many committees that are looking for help, such as the Chuckwagon crew, Camping promotions, and Ceremonies to name a few. Join a Section Conference Committee or help by be-coming a Nimat, part of our extended Elangomat pro-gram and one of our lodge goals. Or simply come to the weekends and chapter events where you can be part of a camp work crew or a community service crew and participate in the funtivites planned by Bubba, our Ac-tivities Chairman. Oh, and don’t forget to start saving money for NOAC. The only limitations to what you as a brother can do in our honored order are the limits you set! I charge you to exemplify the high and worthy ideals of Scouting in your daily lives while challenging fellow brothers to come to our lodge functions. We need not look further for advice than Nutiket, guard of our lodge who says “Test your-self, and so discover that a cheerful heart is lively, as this bowwood, under hardship”. I challenge you, my brother, fan the fire and kindle cheerfulness within. Yours in the Brotherhood, Matthew Hall, AVC

John Watson, Inductions Vice Chief Mr. Tim Faughnan, Associate Adviser The Inductions Committees are off to a good start for the upcoming year. The Summer Conclave at Sand Hill was excellent for us, including three great ceremonies, one of which was aided by our Section Chief. We had 19 Ordeal Members seal their Brotherhood and 24 candi-dates become Ordeal Members. We would like to thank the four Elangomats that came to our rescue and Mrs. Radoll for being the Adult Elangomat. We are also glad to announce that we are halfway to meeting another Lodge Goal since we have contacted 100 percent of the troops in our lodge. We would like to remind the lodge yet again that the term “Ordeali” should not be used in addressing

Jason Brown, Lodge Secretary Mr. Mark Scheiderer, Secretary Adviser Brothers, We had a few minor issues during registration during the summer conclave and banquet, but we have identified the issues and have already put plans in place to make registering for future events fast and easy. Always feel free to drop by the registration desk at any time during a lodge weekend to make sure your contact information is up-to-date. Also, you will notice that next to your name on your mailing label is a four-digit number (i.e., "Allowat Sakima (2008)"). This number is the year for which dues have been paid. Please note that through the remainder of this year only those Arrowmen with dues paid up will receive mailings. For those of you with more than one lodge member at the same mailing address, your mailings have been combined to save money. If you have a friend who is not receiving their newsletter or another family member at your same address whose name is not listed on the mailing label, we either have a bad mailing address on them or their lodge dues are not up to date. They can have their membership reinstated by sending $25 to the council service center along with their name, address, and phone number as well as their chapter and unit number. In WWW, Jason Brown, Lodge Secretary

Aaron Joseph, Lodge Historian Mr. Sam Joseph, Historian Adviser Brothers, Just to update you, I have been working on the King's Cup this summer and it should be done by the fall con-clave. Look for it there and give me any comments on it that can be used to improve it. If you'd like to assist in any way on the historical portion of our lodge, please let me know. My fellow brothers, Section Conference is now only nine months away! Please make sure to put April 17 to 19, 2009 on your calendar. By now I hope you have all talked with one of the chairmen or advisers to see where you can help out. If you have not yet found a position on staff, please feel free to email me or call me and I will find a position for you. Thank you all for help-ing out and stepping up for the challenge. Timuquan Lodge has the staff and the resources to put on an awe-some conference. I’m looking forward to working with all of you. Together Fast and Firmly, we are Timuquan Lodge 340. Activities, Brian Gieselman Mrs. Jan Shermetaro, Adviser This past summer conclave was an amazing week-end! It was pirate themed and boy did we have fun! Some of the activities we had included a treasure hunt which was won by Hiyaraba. We also had a paint the pirate face competition the guys did outstanding jobs on that. We also had a rice-o-rama contest to see who could find the most items in a huge jar of rice. Saturday night we watched Pirates of the Caribbean at Worlds End. We had a lot of fun and I hope you all had as much fun as I did. September’s weekend theme is going to be Sport-a-Rama. Some of the things we will be doing are a basket-ball game (by chapter), biggest fanatic, and sports jeop-ardy (by chapter). We will also have a couple game sys-tems with different types of sports games. I hope you all are ready for an amazing fun filled weekend. Come decked out in your favorite teams’ colors. Yours in cheerful service, Brian Gieselman, Activities Chairman

Camp Service, Marty Shermetaro Mr. John Petruccelli, Camp Service Adviser Well folks, I've talked to Ranger Dan and Ken Knaebel and briefly to Ranger Mike about what needs to be done at SHSR both with general maintenance and Sec-tion Conference in mind. I've gone over the list and have tried to break it down in terms of priority and timing. With the cost side of these items, I would like to know who in the lodge would have access to the required supplies, so at this time I'm not putting a dol-lar amount on the projects. So here are the lists: September Weekend: 1. Finish the smoker--pouring the slab and laying block...could be done at a lodge weekend or not. I know Bob Cliff will need for it for Section Conference

but will use it at all lodge weekends too. 2. Paint inside of dining hall--requires scaffolding and/or 30-40' ladders, paint pans, roller extensions, drop clothes and lots of time and manpower. Also 10-20 gallons of paint. 3. Latrines cleaned up--paint aluminum roofs, repair siding, paint inside, secure stools with wedges and chalking. Will require wedges, chalk, chalking guns, aluminum paint, paint for inside, rollers/brushes. 4. Re-tiling the women's room at dining hall--tiles. I believe Ranger Dan has the glue for this and the floor tiles could be reused. 5. Toilet seats in dining hall restrooms and through out camp need to be checked and replaced where needed. Based on number will determined how many are required. 6. Picnic table repairs need to be completed--this was started in June. I believe Ranger Dan has the materials. 7. Outside electrical boxes at the pool need cleaning and painting. Paint, brushes, wire brushes required. March Weekend: 1. Clean Dance Arbor--need to enlarge the circle by moving the benches, sink some poles for lights and put on a new roof. (probably re-seed at the September weekend) mow and check electrical service. Will need poles for lights to be mounted (need lights?), roofing material-if thatched we can get Jason White (T-312) to do. 2. Change shower heads in camp sites to standard type (not PVC caps with holes) and change from shower curtains to half doors. Would require hardware, wood, and sealant. 3. Paint Trading Post floor--require floor paint, rollers, paint pans, extensions and brushes. 4. Council Ring electric and water should be checked. There is talk about re-shoring the stage with landscape blocks, Travis Johnston pricing out. I would like to see gravel put down between the benches to eliminate mowing, mud and make it easier to control weeds. 5. Lettering on front sign (if still there) to be painted a more visible (contrasting) color. Require one gallon of paint & small brushes. 6. Basketball court may need to be re-striped, logos touched up. 7. Volleyball court may need to be worked to bring up to playing condition. 8. Clean up waterfront (if there is a need). I realize that some of these projects/wishes can come with a heft price tag, that's why I mentioned earlier we need to find out what are lodge resources could provide. If you have any questions for me, please feel free to call me. My home phone is 727-898-2996 and my cell is 727-709-0381. W W W, Mr. John “Petro” Petruccelli

NOAC, Matt Dodge Mr. Mark Losee, NOAC Adviser The 2009 National Order of the Arrow Conference is scheduled to be held the week of August 1-6, 2009. The Conference will once again be held at Indiana University located in Bloomington, Indiana. The lodge will be creating a NOAC planning committee and more information will be announced as plans are created for our lodge contingent. National policy will be in effect to maintain the 2 youth to one adult ratio. Although our plans have not been made yet for a final cost, a $50.00 deposit will be accepted at the service center.

One Day of Service 2008 set for October 18 The Southern Region's One Day of Service program was started in 1996 to better meet the goals of the Order's new strategic vision. One Day is an opportunity for every lodge in the region to do meaningful service in their communities – all on one day! One Day is a fan-

tastic chance to get members involved, make a signifi-cant contribution to the community, and have fun with your fellow brothers! In 2000 the Southern Region con-tributed over 10,000 hours of community service through the program. However, this year the goal is over 15,000 hours of community service and have 70% of our lodges participate. The 2008 One Day of Ser-vice is set for October 18.

2008 Revision of the Guide for Officers and Advisers The 2008 revision of the Guide for Officers and Advisers is now available at this link http://www.main.oa-bsa.org/resources/pubs/GOA-2008.pdf. The guide has been updated to include the national chiefs since 2006, the national OA committee structure, past NOAC attendance, and in-formation on the new OA Lodge Finance Manual. The guide also includes updates to the Quality Lodge Petition and clarifica-tions on chapter organization and officers. Lodges and Sections are strongly encour-aged to download the revised Guide for Officers and Advisers to have the most up to date information.

Timuquan Lodge 340 celebrated our achieve-ments at the Lodge Banquet on June 7, 2008. Lodge Chief Matt Dodge presented the 2008 Lodge Chief’s Award to Hiyaraba Chapter. The 2008 Quest for the Silver Arrow was pre-sented to both Hiyaraba and Arpeika Chapters.

Last year’s recipient Travis Johnston pre-sented the 2008 John C. Whitehurst Award to Marty Shermetaro. Timuquan competed in every event at the Section Conference

to garner enough points to win the Quest for the Golden Arrow. This has not been in our hands since 1987. Way to go team.

The Founders Award was presented to Matthew Dodge who began his Scouting career with Pack 26. He earned his Eagle Scout in 2006 as a member of Troop 26. Matt was elected into the OA in 2001. He has served as the Camping Pro-motions Chairman, Administrative Vice Chief, and is in his second term as Lodge Chief. Matt is attending St. Peters-burg College focusing on religious studies and has the ultimate goal of going into the seminary. The Founders Award was also presented to Mr. Tim Faughnan. He has been active in Scouting since 1987 and earned his Eagle Scout in 1997. Mr. Faughnan had been Administrative Vice

Chief, a member of the 2000 NOAC Honor Brotherhood ceremony team, and the 2001 Section Honor team. He currently serves as Pack 40 Committee Chairman, Twin Rivers District Assistant Dis-trict Commissioner, and Associate Adviser for Inductions.

The evening concluded with recognition of the outgoing members of the executive board and the induction of the officers.
