Chairpersons Annual Report 2007

It gives me great pleasure to present this annual report on behalf of the executive, diocesan and associationcoordinators and individual sport conveners. The scope of this report reflects another amazing year of sportingachievement for our catholic school students and staff in secondary schools across NSW. It is also a reflection ofthe incredible talent we have in our catholic schools and the pathways that are available in a wide variety of sportson a year to year basis. It is always rewarding to see students from our catholic secondary schools listed asmembers of NSW All School and Australian teams.

The annual report that follows is a most detailed account of the many sporting events for the year 2007. It highlightsthe representative pathways and illustrates the complex yet incredible organisation that takes place to allow allthese opportunities to come to fruition. There is no doubt that our success as an association is a result of thetremendous support at a local level from our participating schools, Principals and teachers.

A great deal of thanks must go to the individual sports coordinators at each and every school in our system. Theyare at the ‘coal face’ where these sporting opportunities are communicated and work tirelessly, often well outsidetheir normal teaching duties. To the NSW CCC sports conveners, thank you for work in promoting and organisingyour sport. The expertise, motivation and passion you have in coordinating your sport and ensuring access into theAll Schools arena is invaluable and you are all vital components to the success of CCC. To the Diocesan andAssociation representatives – a job well done. Your role in administering and organising your schools is ongoingthroughout the year and again vital to allow our pathways to function so effectively. Special mention to SydneyCombined Colleges (SCC) our new Association joining us for the first time this year.

I would also like to take this opportunity to thank the members of the CCC executive – Joshua Holmes, LindaDensmore, Robert Ellison and Paul Kennedy for the great work they have done throughout the year. This workingcommittee has met regularly to improve our practices and discuss a wide variety of council issues, all in the aim ofmaking CCC a more professional and effective association. This year we have devoted much of our time to thedevelopment of our constitution and operational guidelines which will serve as a consistent blueprint for our future.

Our organisation has been fortunate to have a dedicated executive officer in Kym Skerritt. Kym has approached herrole in a professional, friendly and efficient manner and is always there to support the needs of council members,Principals, schools, students and families. Along with this, Kym provides a vital link to both the Catholic SchoolsCoordinating Committee and to the NSW All Schools sporting structures. Congratulations on a great year and thankyou Kym on behalf of all involved in catholic school sport.

The diverse roles mentioned so far are all vital components to the successful operation of CCC. We all mustcontinue to be aware that we are one part of a team, that the association caters for students from all over NSW inover 20 sports and remain open minded to the reality of existing resources that are available to us. Our websitecontinued to develop as an up to date, reliable tool for use by schools, teachers, parents and students and we havepromoted it as our major communication link. I must take this opportunity to again thank Adrian Brown at theCatholic Education Commission for his ongoing support of our website and I look forward to further developments inthis area.

Finally, my thanks to the members of the Catholic Sports Coordinating Committee. Your support and guidance ofour CCC council and your communication to the Conference of Directors and Association of Catholic SchoolPrincipals is very much appreciated. As we look ahead to secure our future it is imperative that our council membersand enthusiastic teachers continue to receive support from their respective Principals and Diocesan Offices. Tothose who are leaving us thankyou for your contributions and good luck to you. I would like to specifically mentionHelen Notley from Maitland-Newcastle who is retiring after years of long service to both her Diocese and CCC.Helen, you have been a great role model and sports administrator and we have greatly valued your input over theyears. Best wishes for the future!

CATHOLIC SPORTS CO-ORDINATING COMMITTEE

Catholic Sports Co-ordinating Committee (CSCC) was formed in 1994 in response to an identified needby the NSW Minister of Education to ensure all students and all teachers in all schools throughout NSWhad access to NSW representation.

CSCC is a subcommittee of Catholic Secondary Schools Association (CSSA).

Membership for this Committee came from representatives from the Conference of Diocesan Directors ofCatholic Education and the Association of Catholic School Principals Inc – NSW/ACT. Terms ofReferences were formulated and can be obtained on request from the Executive Officer.

EXECUTIVE OFFICER’S REPORT 2007

As you will see in this report, this program has provided many opportunities for students and teachers at all levels ofcompetitive sport.

The announcement of Australian teams which include students who have been through our program remind us thatwhat we do is worthwhile and a valuable part in our school curriculum.

In my report I want to thank all those who have contributed to the success of NSW Combined Catholic Colleges.These groups are made up of people who are egar to contribute their talents and interests in a variety of ways.

CSSA – Catholic Secondary Schools Association have provided us with a structure that ensures the longevity of thisprogram and provides workable guidelines.

CSCC – Catholic Sports Co-ordinating Committee establish those procedural guidelines to ensure consistency andefficiency. Special thanks go to Gary McSweeney, chairperson, for his support of the secondary program.

Website – our website continues to become a necessary and valuable source of communication. Many thanks toAdrian Brown from the Catholic Education Commission who manages to find time to maintain the website on ourbehalf.

CSCC employees – Ann-Marie Miranda, Executive Officer – Primary who keeps alive the link between CCC andCPS and provides me with great support. Bev Vimpany, who provides the financial support that ensures paymentsare made and monitored and also provides wonderful support.

I would like to extend my thanks to the Executive for their support and guidance. In particular the work they havedone in preparing the Constitution and Operational Guidelines. Your leadership and vision is outstanding.

The NSW Conveners work specifically with their sport ensuring rules of play and selections provide a level playingfield and ensure all students are given a fair go. In particular, I would like to thank conveners who have retired,John Hassett – Touch, Tony Kane – Australian Football, John Emms – Boys Cricket, Mark De Vries – Boys Footballand Andy Martin - Rugby. In most cases these people will still be involved as coaches, managers, selectors or co-ordinators of competitions. I would also like to thank their schools for providing the support for them to carry outtheir duties.

Diocesan Sports Representatives will often work with conveners by supporting activities that are held in their localarea. Often it is the local community’s hospitality that provides the most memorable moments. Special mentionmust go to the rural areas that have a wonderful way to ensure all have a good time. We also acknowledge yourefforts to ensure your students are given the opportunity to attend NSWCCC selections when at times cost andisolation are great barriers. Charlie Shalala, Robert Chapman and Wayne Gillard are no longer representing theirgroups but their contribution is duly noted and appreciated. We wish them well in their new appointments.

School principals who support and value the representative sports program in what is a very busy schedule whererepresentative sport is not a mandatory requirement. However, it is viewed as a way for those to use their godgiven talents. Many of whom we honour at the Blues Award Presentation.

Sports Co-ordinators – No structure is successful unless it has people working at the grass roots level. Your tirelessefforts to be the first port of call to the student is necessary and appreciated.

Parents who battle to ensure their children have a balance in their lives so that they may become adults that canshare their lives in the future to make this a better world.

Students – thank you for sharing your talents in a gracious way. We pray your achievements continue and that youmay share your talents will others.

DIOCESE OF ARMIDALE

NSWCCC ANNUAL REPORT 2007

The Diocese of Armidale has again competed successfully at all major CCC arnivals including Athletics,Cross Country, Touch Football, Soccer, Rugby Union and wimming. Individual sports such as Triathlonwith great results at Allschools with Claire Sheridan (St Mary’s Gunnedah), James Molony (McCarthyTamworth) achieving great success in X- Country whilst Tegan Smith (McCarthy Tamworth) wasprominent in Athletics and Hugh Williams(Holy Trinity Inverell) attended School Sport Australia CrossCountry in Perth.

The opportunity to be able to compete at this level is greatly appreciated by the parents, students andschools of the Armidale Diocese. Due to costs, distances to travel and time away from school, parentsand students arebecoming far more selective in the number of events that they participate in.

The Armidale Diocese for the first time combined with the Bathurst Diocese in Soccer, Rugby Union andTouch Football to allow students a pathway to CCC selection trials. Linda Densmore and her colleaguesfrom the Bathurst Diocese were most helpful and appreciative of the students’ efforts and we look forwardto a productive working relationship in the future enabling students with opportunities to compete at CCCLevel.

On a Diocesan level the Schools competed in Diocesan Touch Football, Swimming, Cross Country andAthletic Carnivals.The Armidale Diocese also promoted Netball and Tennis competitions, Cochrane CupRugby League, Berg Shield Cricket, Golf, Debating, Chess and Soccer days. All of these competitionsenabled students to compete in a round robin format, with multiple games on a single day in effectminimizing cost and time away from school. The one day format is endorsed by Principals and SportsOrganisers of the Armidale Diocese and will be pursued as the preferred format in all competitions in2008.

The individual Sports Organisers of the Diocese, Tim Kennedy (St Mary's Gunnedah), Sean Baldwin ( StPhilomena's Moree), Bernie Williams ( McCarthy Tamworth) and Greg Jones ( O'Connor Armidale) allmust be acknowledged for their commitment in time and energy in organising School, Diocesan and CCCSport. Also a special thankyou must go Mrs Raelee Balderston who stepped into the DiocesanRepresentative position for Term 1 this year. Her organization and dedication did not go unrecognised.Thankyou so much Raelee!

Finally to Mr Paul McDougall (Principal McCarthy Catholic College Tamworth) who has been Chairman ofthe Armidale Diocesan Secondary Sports Council for the past ten years. Thank you for your commitmentand support to Diocesan Sport.

The Armidale Diocese looks forward to expanding and improving the sporting opportunities available toour students in 2008 and utilizing the pathways available to us. The work of the teachers in our Diocese must be recognised as many of them give a great deal of theirfree time and expertise to support the students in their chosen sport. They convene Diocesan events andtake on Team Manager roles. Without the efforts of these teachers the students would be unable tocontinue on their selection pathway. Four staff members have taken this a step further this year. JohnEmms, La Salle, Lithgow was Combined Catholic Colleges Boys’ Cricket Convenor, Steven Hooper, RedBend Catholic College, Forbes was the secretary of the Combined Catholic College Rugby LeagueCommittee, Nicole Casey from St John’s College, Dubbo was Selector / Coach NSW Combined CatholicColleges and Selector / Assistant Coach NSW All Schools with Girls’ Football and Peter Gaiter from StJohn’s College in Dubbo was an Assistant Coach in Basketball.

SECONDARY SCHOOL SPORTS ASSOCIATION


Once again 2007 has proven to be a successful year for the Broken BaySecondary Schools Sports Association. This year the many and varied roles takenon within the association were spread equally across all 12 Schools. As a resultwe have continued to see an excellent standard of events convened, a wealth oftalent within the ranks of team coaches and managers and the continued increasein participation at both the BBSSSA and Combined Catholic Colleges levels. Thesuccess of our association is a tribute to the hard work and professionalism of ourSports Co-ordinators, who have done an outstanding job in 2007.

The first major event attended in 2007 was the NSW CCC Blues awards, wherethe most outstanding students in NSW Catholic Schools sport are recognised fortheir achievements. Broken Bay students were well represented at these awardsand congratulations must go to;

This year we farewell a long standing supporter of the Sports Association - JoyBruce. Joy has been the Assistant Principal at Brigidine for many years and wethank her for her on going support and wish her well in her new endeavours. Wewould also like to acknowledge the work of Damien Tomsett, who has acted in therole of Sports Co-ordinator at Mackillop Catholic College, Warnervale in 2007.Damian and his staff have convened two extremely well run Touch carnivals andhis work has been greatly appreciated by the Sports Association. We welcomeback Kathleen Black in this role in 2008.

There are nine secondary schools in the NSW sector of the Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn.Many of the schools are smaller central schools in isolated rural areas. To represent their school andarchdiocese in sporting competitions not only provides students the opportunity to experience a higherlevel of competition but more importantly it encourages them to be active members of a much largercommunity of schools.

Through the provision of a representative pathway, the Catholic Sports Coordinating Committeeenables secondary students from the Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn to actively join the widercommunity of Catholic schools. I would like to take this opportunity to thank CSCC, the CombinedCatholic Colleges Sports Association, the many carnival and trials convenors and CSCC executiveOfficer, Kym Skerritt for the support they have given to the staff and students from our archdioceseduring 2007

Over 250 secondary students represented the Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn at CCC eventswith many students going on to represent in NSWCCC teams and 5 in NSW All School teams, a greatadvertisement for our pathways. Congratulations to Bart McPherson, Grace Harvey and Will Grant fromLumen Christi College in Pambula and Tegan Gale and William McNamara from Trinity CollegeGoulburn who gained NSW All Schools representation.

I would like to thank the many staff from schools throughout the Archdiocese who have assisted inconvening trials and managing teams. Some of these staff members have been the backbone ofrepresentative sport for many years and continue to give dedicated service to our school communities. Iwould also like to welcome and thank the teachers who have recently joined the ranks of convenors andmanagers; your contribution is most appreciated.

Finally, I would like to wish all of the CCC community the best for 2008 and I am looking forward toworking with you all again as we provide a pathway for all students in Catholic Schools across NSW.

The Diocese of Lismore Sports Program has continued to have many successful outcomesthroughout this past year. I extend another sincere thank you and well done to our dedicatedschool sports coordinators as well as to the various carnival and trial conveners, and teammanagers. Collectively they have made immeasurable contributions to sport in their schools andin the diocese as a whole. Their commitment to, and concern for, providing the opportunities andpathways have enabled a very large number of students to benefit greatly from their positiveexperiences in sport.

I wish also to express my thanks to parents for their practical support of their children and for theirassistance, with other volunteers, at carnivals and trials.

Indeed, a big thank you to anyone who contributed in any way to the success of school, diocesanand CCC sport with special appreciation extended to our principals and school executive formuch–needed support.

Well done to all students who took part in sport at any level this year with special congratulationsto those who went on to representative honours.

The many highlights of 2007 have included:

Another very impressive number of students from our secondary schools gaining selection intoNSW CCC sides, with a select band of these making it into a NSW All Schools or Australianside.

The continued high level performances of our Diocesan Swimming team as a whole as well assome outstanding individual efforts at CCC and beyond.

The excellent result of the of the Lismore team at the CCC Athletics to finish prominently in theDiocesan/Association points table. This was indicative of some excellent performances by somany of our team members and was despite our greatly reduced team numbers.

The unmistakable sense of team spirit that seems to be a part of so many of our diocesanteams despite the varied locations from which our team members come. This same team spiritis very noticeable amongst school teams as well. A great amount of credit goes to our excellentteam managers and, of course, to the students themselves.

The continued growth, interest and success in primary and secondary sport for children withdisabilities (over 20 children Year 2 to 12 participated at diocesan level or above). A veryspecial mention to Jacqueline Freney. After outstanding performances in school pathwayswimming, Jacqueline competed at the U.S Open Paralympic Championships in December andtook out five gold medals. This was truly exceptional especially as she was able to beat her idoland multi world record holder Jessica Long. Sam Petterson is another worthy of specialmention. After winning at CCC and NSW All Schools Cross Country, Sam finished 4th at SchoolSport Australia.

The successful hosting of the 2007 CCC Under 19s Cricket Selection Trials at Sawtell.

SECONDARY SCHOOLS SPORTS ASSOCIATION


2007 has been my first year as the Diocesan Education/Sport Officer and I am amazed by, and proud of,the number of talented and dedicated athletes we have in our Diocese. Their ability to combine training,school and work commitments is inspirational. All of the students who represented our diocese as anindividual or as a team member are to be commended not only for what they achieved in their sport, butalso for the manner in which they took part. Their fine sportsmanship was acknowledged by many oftheir team managers.

Some of the outstanding students have been acknowledged with Blues Awards in February this year. Iwould like to congratulate five of our students who received these – Matthew Harris for athletics,Benjamin Larkin for cricket, Jacinta Aiken for triathlon, Matthew Delorraine for water polo and JamesMcKee for tennis. This year James was selected in the NSW All School Tennis Squad as well as theAustralian Team, a fantastic achievement. We had several hundred students represent our Diocese atthe full range of CCC sports and over 40 of these students were selected in a NSWCCC team.

As a past school sport coordinator of 7 years, I appreciate the enormous effort school sport coordinatorsput in, to give their students the opportunity to represent their school, diocese and state. I would like tothank our 11 school sport coordinators for the support they have given me during my first year. I wouldlike to acknowledge our teachers who willingly assist as convenors, coaches, squad managers andofficials. These opportunities for students only occur due to their hard work, expertise and time. Of coursefor staff to be available, we must thank all of our principals who support the teachers’ involvement.

I would like to acknowledge the support and advice I have received from Kym Skerritt and the otherDiocesan Sport Coordinators throughout the year. Your dedication to providing high quality sportingexperiences is obvious, as is your teamwork approach to carnivals.I cannot let this opportunity pass by without acknowledging the dedication of Helen Notley who has been

the Maitland Newcastle Diocesan Sport Officer and is now retiring. Helen has been an outstanding,committed and passionate advocate for sport in our diocese for over 25 years. She has been thebackbone of representative sport as well as giving continual service to our school communities. Theopportunities for students to follow their sporting dreams and goals at a school level, has been possibledue to the many years of expert direction from her. She has been at the grass roots of sportingpossibilities from school to diocesan to state level. It is an honour to be continuing on from such a wellrespected person.

PARRAMATTA DIOCESE SECONDARY

SCHOOLS SPORTS COUNCIL


I am pleased to be writing this report on the eve of exciting new developments within the ParramattaDiocese Secondary Schools Sports Council. It has already been announced that the position of DiocesanSport Coordinator has evolved into a full time position, with more ancillary support from the CEO. I’m surethat you would all agree that this is a positive step forward and that this will ensure that this sporting bodywill continue to be the dominant force that it is today.

This year has been marked by a number of special performances and results. All three major carnivalsran extremely smooth, thanks to the help of many staff and students. As a result of the strong competitionat each of these, all PDSSSC teams that then competed at the CCC championships were very strong andenormously successful. A number of standout performances from each are listed in the individual carnivalreports later in this document.

Our Representative teams again performed to a high level in the CCC carnivals. Our Touch teamstravelled to Wagga for a very closely fought competition. Both the senior and junior girls teams weresuccessful in becoming the CCC champions. The Hockey girls travelled north to Wyong where a numberof them gained entry into the NSWCCC team. Both soccer teams again performed at a high level. Inparticular the girls teams who are the CCC champions for the second year in a row.

Various other teams and individuals performed well and should be congratulated on their performancesalso. I am however, still not sure if we are fielding the strongest teams possible for these competition. Iwould like to see all schools sending students to the trials and not just the same ones all of the time. Weare the biggest Diocese in NSW and should be more competitive than we are at present. If each schoolsent their top students in every sport, I feel that we would be achieving even better results.

I would like to thank all of the Sport Coordinators, coaches, managers and team officials for the time theyhave spent in support of the PDSSSC and school sport in general. I am genuinely grateful for yourassistance and the effort that you have given in making this sporting council the best that it can be.

CBSA has been a long term member of CCC. CBSA schools have competed in a variety of CCC eventsover the year. Our highlights included competing at the CCC swimming, athletics and cross countrychampionships. CBSA also sent teams to various team sports such as touch football, football, rugbyleague and rugby. Additionally many students trialled for other sports as individuals. We had severalstudents gain representation in CCC teams throughout the year. One student in particular, Daniel Bringolfgained a Blue award for his performance in golf.

CBSA would like to offer it’s thanks to all the sports convenors, diocesan representatives and theexecutive of the CCC organisation. We acknowledge the huge amount of work that goes on frequentlyunnoticed to make these opportunities available to our students.

CBSA schools and principals are fully supportive of the pathway CCC offers to our students andcommitted to fulfilling our requirements to CCC.

CBSA is looking forward to 2008 with much anticipation.

This year at the 10th Blues Award Presentations 8 girls from CGSSSA Schools who use the CGSSSA asa pathway to higher levels of representation were recognised for their sporting prowess in andcommitment to, their chosen sport. By implication these awards also acknowledge the wonderfulopportunities our Association in combination with the NSWCCC offer the elite athletics within our schools.I trust that the staff responsible for sport within these schools, those who make these opportunitiespossible, are also affirmed for the contributions they make to the lives of these talented athletes.

The diversity of sporting talent in our schools was again very evident this year both in the number ofsports in which students from the CGSSSA represented the NSWCCC but also in the spread on sports inwith they did so. Our strength as an Association seemed to lie predominantly in 3 area this year thesebeing Swimming, Water Polo and Volleyball. We also made a strong showing in Diving, Cross Countryand Football. It is unfortunate that no NSWCCC Athletics Team is selected to compete at the NSW AllSchools Championships. Although students can attend as individual athletes it is a shame that ourtalented Track and Field athletes do not have the honour of formally representing the Catholic Schoolsystem at this level of competition


The CGSSSA has continued to encourage all sports staff members in the Association to visit theNSWCCC website and to direct their parents and student to do likewise. The continued development anduse of this site has been beneficial to many involved. At an Association level we have not been able, asyet, to establish our own website but some investigation in this regard has occurred and it is my hope thatin 2008 more work can be done in this area.

Student opportunities, risk management, communication, administrative procedures and the refinement ofthe Constitution and By Laws were a focus this year. The electronic publication of Associationdocumentation considerably improved the day to day running of the CGSSSA and assisted theAssociation in meeting compliance guidelines established by the CSCC. It is envisaged that after someadditional evaluation of the Association’s policies and procedures at the conclusion of 2007 that acomprehensive and up-to-date resource can again be provided to schools in 2008.

We continue as an Association to be grateful to the CSCC for their support and guidance in fostering‘best practice’ at all levels of competition.

To the many staff and students who have been involved in CGSSSA and NSWCCC sport in 2007 I trustyou have enjoyed the experience and are cognisant of the great contribution you make to the sporting lifeof the greater Catholic School community.

I would like to start by thanking the many people that make up the MCC association.There are 8 schools in a very strong competition lead by an abundance of talent. Asusual there is a good representation at the CCC and NSW level from ourassociation. We have 21 coaching and training staff that look after and select ourcombined MCC sides. Year after year committed teachers with a passion for sporttake on these rolls with great enthusiasm. With people like this in all of our schools,sport is in safe hands.

I would encourage people to have a look at our MCC website www.mccsport.com alot of work has gone into creating an impressive site.

Mr Brian Roberts as president of the association for the last year, passes the batonon to the next Principal in line, Br. Bill Sullivan. The executive committee of MCCwould like to thank him for all his time and energy.

I would like to thank the Principals, Staffs and students of the MCS Sports Association for their continued supportand sporting excellence during 2007. The Association was successful in many sporting activities but, mostimportantly, the emphasis on participation and “Sportsmanship” was the corner stone for our Coaches andstudents. Thanks is extended to Mr Damien Trevillion who provides assistance on behalf of the MCS Association tothe CCC Swimming Championship and to Peter Hill with the CCC Athletics Championship. The sport of AFL wasintroduced this year.

This was the second year of a three year cycle for each College convening the following sports = Auburn(Basketball), Blacktown (Football), Campbelltown (Cross Country), Dundas (Rugby League Referees), Eastwood(Cricket, AFL, Rugby 10s), Fairfield (Tennis), Greystanes (Touch), Liverpool (Swimming), Parramatta (Athletics),Penrith (Golf), Quakers Hill (Rugby League) and Ryde (Football Referees). The Association also has enters teams inthe Softball and Baseball Championships.

Our Association successfully celebrated its 40th Anniversary at a Presentation Dinner with guest speaker theHonourable Mr Graeme West, Minister of Sport and Recreation (Old Boy of St Gregory’s College). In conclusion Iwould like to thank the Metropolitan Catholic Schools Sports Coordinators, Coaches / Managers and Convenors.Your professionalism and support has been greatly appreciated.

Southern Sydney has enjoyed another successful year of sporting activities through the NSWCCC

pathway. The opportunities for the students to compete at all levels against other schools and athletes is

appreciated by students, parents and teachers. The positive influence that sport brings will set a

foundation onto which students will learn to develop themselves into young men and women.

It is important to recognise the contribution of the Sports coordinators from the Southern Sydney Diocese,

your energy and commitment is the cornerstone in provided opportunity for the students to excel.

Organisation of a diocesan team is a time consuming exercise, the efforts of the coaches are however

well rewarded, when students are allowed to show their potential on the sporting field. To the Conveners

of NSWCCC events your tireless efforts in organising fair and professional selections must be

commended.

I would also like to thank Robert Chapman from De La Salle Caringbah for his leadership and contribution

to the Southern Sydney Diocese over the past four years. His support to both coordinators and students

assisted the diocese to grow and develop.

The support of the school community is imperative to the success of students. I would like to thank all

principals for the constant support and guidance shown to both coordinators and students.

On a final note I would like to extend thanks to Kym Skerritt from SSCCC. Your professionalism,

guidance and positive influence has provided our students the opportunity to participate and perform to

The Sydney Combined Colleges (SCC) gained an official pathway to CCC representation for the firsttime in 2007. SCC has seven member girls’ schools predominantly from the southwestern areas ofSydney. SCC provides a pathway for over 4000 girls in total to CCC representation.

SCC schools competed this year in a majority of CCC diocesan events. Our highlights includedcompeting for the first time as a group at the CCC swimming, athletics and cross countrychampionships. SCC also sent teams to various team sports such as touch football, softball, and girl’sfootball. Additionally many students trialled for other sports as individuals. We had several studentsgain representation in CCC teams throughout the year which is the primary purpose of the groupgaining SCC representation.

SCC would like to offer it’s thanks to all the sports convenors, diocesan representatives and theexecutive of the CCC organisation. We acknowledge the huge amount of work that goes on frequentlyunnoticed to make these opportunities available to our students.

Being our first year competing at CCC level SCC now has gained a greater understanding of thevarious procedures involved in CCC sport. Our goal over the next year will be to increase our level ofparticipation in CCC sports and raise our profile amongst the CCC dioceses. SCC schools andprincipals are fully supportive of the pathway CCC offers to our students and committed to fulfilling ourrequirements to CCC.

SCC is looking forward to 2008 with much anticipation.

Wagga Wagga Diocese has completed another busy sporting year for our students through theCombined Catholic Colleges Sporting Association (CCC).

Our year started off on a high with the following students being awarded with the prestigious NSWCCCBlues Award:

Wagga Wagga was again the host for Southern Zone AFL Trials which were held in Albury. Thanks toMark Sanson (Xavier High School) and Travis Doyle (St. Francis College) for organising the successfultrials. We were also the host for the Southern CCC Basketball Trials, which were again very successfuland were held in Albury. Thanks are extended to our coordinator Dale Gleeson (Xavier High School).

Wagga Wagga also successfully hosted two major carnivals, Hockey Championships and TouchFootball. Thanks are extended to the Wagga Wagga Diocese Sports Coordinators Michelle Lumsden(Mater Dei Catholic College), Peter Hunt (Kildare Catholic College), Mark Sanson (Xavier CatholicCollege), Carl Norman (St. Francis College) and Jo Robb (Marian CC) for their effort and dedicationthroughout these carnivals.

Thanks must also be extended to the Wagga Wagga Secondary Schools’ Principals for their supportthroughout the year. I would also like to thank the players/students, parents, officials, team managers,teachers and coaches who have given up so much of their valuable time to participate and supportDiocesan and CCC sport. The distances travelled by country students is phenomenal and thecommitment they, and their families, make is amazing. That they are all happy to do this to pursueexcellence and enjoyment in sport through CCC is commendable.

In closing, congratulations to Kym Skerritt and the CSCC Executive for their continued support of sportin NSW and the Wagga Wagga Diocese Secondary Sporting Association is looking forward to aneventful 2008.

Schools from the Wollongong Diocese have enjoyed another great year of sporting activities through theCombined Catholic Colleges Sporting Association. The opportunities for our students to compete against otherDioceses and Associations from across NSW and the opportunity to access the All Schools arena has beengreatly appreciated by students, parents and teachers of our school communities. Sport is such a valuableproduct in the life of our secondary students and we should never under estimate its importance.

I would like to take this opportunity to acknowledge the work of the Catholic Sports Coordinating Committee,Diocesan/Association representatives and the individual Sports Conveners. Your efforts throughout the year havebeen outstanding and on behalf of the Wollongong Sports Council thank you for your contributions. To KymSkerritt our Executive Officer for 2007, your work and support have again been inspirational and certainly thedriving force behind the professionalism of the NSW CCC Sports Association. I have appreciated yourprofessionalism, good nature and willingness to support all aspects of secondary sport. Thankyou!

Wollongong had CCC Conveners in Anthony Kane (AFL), Kay Southall (Tennis) and Brett Moran coordinated theSouthern Country CCC cricket trials. Wollongong hosted the CCC Basketball senior finals. Special mention toTony Kane, who this year was very active in organising the NSW All Schools AFL here in Wollongong. The workof our conveners in promoting sport across NSW was first-class and certainly provided opportunities forincreased student involvement. Over 400 secondary students represented the diocese at CCC events with 74students from Wollongong going on to represent in NSW CCC teams, 9 in NSW All School teams and 1 reachingnational honours, a great advertisement for our pathways. Wollongong diocese hosted the CCC Volleyballselections, the CCC tennis championships and selections and the Senior Basketball Final series.

On a local level I would like to thank our Director of Schools Peter Turner, Secondary Cluster head NettyBroekman, Head of Learning and RE Services Mark Raue and our Senior Professional Officer Anne MareeCreenaune for their continued support for Diocesan Sport. All have been very supportive of sport and it’spromotion to the Diocese. Our CEO website continued to be a valued resource with our sporting journal fully online and downloadable. This year it featured all representative teams, results from major carnivals and links to theCCC, DET and School Sport Australia sites. You might like to pay us a visit at www.ceo.woll.catholic.edu.au andnavigate your way through the sport section. Our sports council has formed some close links with WollongongUniversity and now have students assisting at our carnivals and acting as officials at NSW CCC events. This hasbeen a very productive relationship and one we hope to develop in the future.

Finally to individual Sports Coordinators who are the cornerstone for all sporting activities, congratulations on anoutstanding job. Your role is challenging, busy and often unrewarding at times, but again you have met thechallenges put to you in fine style. Thankyou!

On November 23 this year our Sports Council staged the 11th

Annual CDF Diocesan Sports Awards to recognisethe outstanding achievements of both students and teachers from primary and secondary Schools. The eveningwas proudly sponsored by the Catholic Development Fund and attracted over 450 guests to St Mary Star of theSea College. The evening was a fitting culmination to a busy sporting year and certainly a positive advertisementfor the pathways and structures now available. Ex-socceroo, Paul Wade was our special guest speaker. TheVince Villa Trophy was awarded to Holy Spirit College as the Champion Secondary School across all sports.

Wollongong Diocese looks forward to our continued involvement in Combined Catholic Colleges Sport. We wishall involved in secondary school catholic sport the best and hope to see you in action again in 2008.

ATHLETICS - 2007 ANNUAL REPORT

The 2007 NSWCCC Athletics was held on Friday 14th

September at Sydney Olympic Athletic Centre,Homebush Bay. The day of the carnival was bright and sunny with little wind, allowing athletes toperform to the best of their abilities.

This year again, we used the ‘Hytek Meetmanager’ recording program that interfaces with the photofinish systemwhich is linked to the scoreboard.

I would like to pass on my thanks to all those people looking after team selection who, worked to get theinformation to Kym in the required format to download into the program. Each year this process improves.

Thank you to all team managers who ensured athletes moved quickly to their events.

ANSW supplied officials to assist in running the carnival, I thank them.I would like to see each diocese encouraging teachers to undertake professional development in the area ofofficiating so that teachers could eventually take over some of the key positions as currently happens in the CHSsystem. (Contact with the ANSW office can be made to see how they can help facilitate officials’ courses.)

The carnival again ran smoothly this year in relation to processing of results. Thank you to team managers whoensured athletes wore their number bibs appropriately. This assisted the photo finish area to operate moreefficiently.

Events for Athletes with a DisabilityThis year we again included 2 events for athletes with a disability – 100m and Long Jump. There were morecompetitors than last year, and most had their classification organised. Team managers need to send a copy ofthe official classification details to carnival convenor before the carnival. Most athletes were classified T/F 20, I’msure that there are other athletes with other classifications that may not be receiving the information, let’s try toincrease the opportunity for all our students.

I would encourage Diocesan and Association Representatives to ensure that the information in the journal isdistributed to these students allowing them time to have their classification issues organised. At this stage thereis no ceiling on the number of competitors a team may enter.

presentations and for working in this area on the day; Liz Gale, Craig Beacroft and Stuart Guthrie for theirenergetic sorting of problems on the field of play during the carnival.

Helen Wood for organising our efficient results personnel Wendy Breen for managing Meet Manager. The staff and officials of ANSW who work hard to ensure that our students have the best and fairest

conditions to achieve to the best of their abilities, The staff at SOPAC who looked after us very well again this year. Sports Medicine Australia, (NSW branch) who appointed our sports trainer. A special thanks to the students from St Patrick’s College, Sutherland and OLMC, Parramatta who assisted

us throughout the day in a variety of vital positions.

I would like to encourage more students to enter the NSW Allschools event, I would encourage all teachers todirect their highly placed athletes to the Athletics NSW website for the entry details for this carnival as it isindividual entry. Also there were a number of outstanding results at the Australian All Schools Championships inDecember, it is heartening to see the athletes from our system doing well, however as entries are done by theindividual, I am sure that there are many other students who should take the step of competing at this level.

The selection trials were held Tuesday March 27 in Sutherland. There were just over 100 students,55 from CCC and 51 from CIS, who took part in the trials and a final team of 22 and 5 emergencies wereselected. None of the emergencies were brought into the starting 22 as a result of a an injury. From thefinal 22 students attending the NSW CHS Championships 13 students were from CCC schools and 9 from CISschools. The quality of students attending the trials, like in 2007, was considerably high and again the CCC andCIS schools complemented each other extremely well in order to produce a squad that was extremelycompetitive at the NSW CHS All Schools Championships.

The Championships were held this year in Wollongong and was hosted by NSWCCC North. Many thanks toTony Kane (Convener), Scott Cummins and Kym Skerritt for putting on a great Carnival.

NSW CCC North finished top of their pool and played off in the final. The team played extremely well and weredefeated by our southern cousins NSW CCC South.

All players selected were very good members of the team structure. They all shared the workload on the field,demonstrated courtesy, respect, sportsmanship and excellent behaviour at all times during the NSWCHS StateCarnival. Their contribution to the team was always positive and in doing so was able to play football at thehighest level.

Seven of its players achieved representative honours. This was a great achievement from a zone that iscontinually growing and well represented across all Diocese of Sydney, Hunter and Wollongong. They were TomYoung, Sam Rowley, Trent Stubbs, James Brain, Nick Perry, Robert Lombardo James Webster.

CCC/CIS North won all games in its pool on the Tuesday and Wednesday. On the ThursdayCCC/CIS North played CCC/CIS South in the final. BASEBALL - 2007 ANNUAL REPORT

Another year and another “Trot around the bases” for NSWCCC Baseball. Perfect weather set thescene for a wonderful day of baseball as seven different Diocese took up the challenge to “fly theflag” for their region. Teams comprised of the Diocese’s of Broken Bay, MCS, MCC, Southern Sydney,Parramatta, Wollonong and the return of Lismore! Talk about a keen Diocese. The team from Lismore gave upmany different sporting opportunities to participate in this tournament and many more comforts as they travelledfor 1000kms EACH WAY to provide their students with the opportunity of playing. A special congratulations tothis Diocese for such an immense effort. With seven Diocese participating, each team was allocated twomatches within the draw, with the top two teams participating in the final selection game. Preliminary results werequite close in most games with only Broken Bay standing out as offensive and defensive giants, knocking intwenty one runs and not allowing the opposition to trouble the scorers. Preliminary results: Broken Bay 9 defParramatta 0, Lismore drew Wollongong 7-7, MCS def Southern Sydney 8-5, MCS drew Wollongong 3-3,Southern Sydney def Lismore 3-2, Broken Bay def MCC 12-0, Parramatta def MCC 8-1. The final selection gamepitted Broken Bay against MCS. MCS jumped out to an early lead, and with a couple of errors from Broken Bayand some brilliant pitching from the MCS staff, managed to hold off the Boys from the Beach and ran out winners5-4. This was a special win in itself, with MCS being hindered by not be allowed to use their best pitchers on theday due to Major League restrictions.

Congratulations to all the coaches and players from each Diocese on your wonderful spirit, competitiveness,sportsmanship and enjoyment of all on the day. You all presented yourself with distinction. NSW CCC isdeveloping a great culture with two ex-students and one current student assuming coaching roles with variousteams and returning to their “Field of Dreams” where they once enjoyed success, and are now trying to help buildthat same success amongst the next era of Baseball players within the NSW CCC system. We are truly lookingahead to our next encounter with the NSW CHS and NSW CIS at the annual All Schools fixture in April. Throughthese selection games, we have composed a very talented team, which is evident by the quality of the playersnot in the 2007 squad. Thankyou to all our Coaches, players, scorers, parents and supporters and especially ourumpires for making the 2007 carnival a grand experience for all. Once again, the team representing NSW CCC Baseball acquitted themselves admirably when they took to thefield in this years Tri Series against CHS and CIS.

In the days first game, CCC pounced from the beginning, setting up a big winning margin with the batsconnecting with the ball, resulting in a 14 -1 defeat of the CIS.

Having established such a command in that first game, CCC were extremely confident in their starting rotation ofpitchers and were in command for the first 4 innings. By the end of the 5

th, CHS held a narrow 2-1 lead. Scoring

a run was proving not to be easy for either side and only some poor pitching command in these middle inningsand a couple of late fielding errors allowed CHS to run away with a 7-1 win.


On a positive note, CCC out hit the CHS side 5-2, with the errors and walks only allowing the CHS side to score.

Congratulations also must be given to James Linger, Tim Atherton, Luke Wilkins and Mick Shipp on theirselection to the NSW Schoolboys team for 2007.

School Sport Australia Results

An excellent tournament for our NSW CCC representatives. James Linger completed all seven games and TimAtherton six, with Luke Wilkins and Mick Shipp having limited opportunities due to their roles as pitcher andcatcher respectively. The NSW team had an excellent tournament only dropping one game to Queensland,before narrowly losing the SSA Final to QLD also 3-1.

The performances of Linger, Shipp and Atherton in pool games were rewarded with MVP Medals in three of thesix games. An excellent result for NSW CCC Baseball.

These fantastic results wre to become even more pleasing with Linger, Atherton and Wilkins all selected for theAustralian Schoolboys tour of Canada in late 2007.

Congratulations on another fantastic year. A final special thanks to Peter Webster (Head Coach) and BrendonWallace (Selector) who assisted me in my role as Manager. Finally a big thanks to our Executive and especiallyKym Skerritt who fielded no end of interesting phone calls and provided guidance and assistance in situationsthat required more help than should have been deemed necessary.

CCC Carnival Report

The 2007 CCC Girls Basketball trials were held at Windsor Stadium on Saturday 2nd June.Twenty five talented girls attended the trial which was held over two x two hour sessions. Thefirst session was skills, drills and learning offensive / defensive strategies to be used inscrimmages and games which were conducted in the second session. Eric Kivi was wellorganised for the trial and Dale Gleeson was very supportive and helpful throughout thesessions. All players had equal opportunity to show their abilities in the variety of drills andgame situations through both training sessions.

Training was held at Terrigal Stadium on Sunday 3/6/07, again for 2x2 hour sessions. This wasa very valuable opportunity to Eric and Dale to develop some set routines for the girls to followin both offence and defense. Team uniforms were distributed and orders for other CCC apparelwere also taken.

At the NSW All Schools Championships CCC defeated CIS in the first game 73-66. In thesecond game CHS defeated CCC by 10 points. Eric treated these games as a selection trialand gave all players fair court time to allow them to impress the selectors with their ability toplay basketball. This may have affected the outcome of our second game, however as aselection trial we believed that all players deserved fair court time. Four CCC girls wereselected in the NSW All Schools team to attend the School Sport Australia Championships heldin Cairns in August. They were Fiona Sparks, Alex Duck, Ellie Gleeson and Kate Oliver. EricKivi is NSW Head Coach. Congratulations to all players and coaches on a job well done.

CCC Carnival Report

The 2007 Boys Basketball trial was held at Penrith Stadium on Saturday 2nd June. It wasattended by 28 boys from Catholic schools across NSW. The trial ran from 10am-3pm and wasa combination of simple drills/positional skills/live drills and scrimmages. The selection panelwas made up of Simon Ghantous (Coach), Peter Gaiter (Assistant Coach)and Br Chris Peel(Manager). PRACTICE: A practice session was held at St Dominic's College on Sunday 3rdJune from 9am-12 noon. This session was used to get the players "running together" and formsome sort of structure for the All Schools tournament. Uniforms were distributed to the player.

The first game was played against CIS. It was clear from the outset that our lack of size wouldbe an issue. It was also evident early in the first quarter that the CIS squad had spentconsiderably more time together (especially apparent offensively). The CCC squad held the CISteam to a single digit lead through to the end of the 3rd quarter, however the lead ballooned inthe 4th quarter and CIS won by 20 points. The second game immediately followed against CHSand again it was evident that a lack of size and structure would be a factor. CHS took an earlylead and were never really challenged. It was a disappointing result with CCC losing by 25.Although it was an objective to win both games, they were treated as trials for players to showtheir skills and have a chance at the NSW All Schools team. It was attempted to give all playersa fair amount of court time. Only one player from CCC was selected into the NSW All Schoolsteam - Josh Black of St Edwards College, Gosford at the point guard position. Sean Albert of StDominic's College, Kingswood was very close to selection and I was disappointed at hisomission.


BASKETBALL REGIONAL TOURNAMENT – ALBURY2007 ANNUAL REPORT

New teams to Albury for this year’s tournament saw some significant differences to thefinals make-up, after the usual suspects all ventured down to Albury in early May.

Whilst old foes still did battle on some fronts, St Mary’s Wollongong in the girls divisions and EdmundRice Wollongong in the boys divisions added a new level of competition.

The tournament winners were recognised after the following finals took place:

CROSS COUNTRY - 2007 ANNUAL REPORT

The CCCSA Cross Country selection trials were held at the Eastern Creek Raceway on the 15th

Junein conjunction with the Catholic Primary Schools Cross Country Championships.

Thankfully the rain held out for the majority of the Championship.With the support of officials from the various Dioceses/Associations the day ran smoothly and in particular veryprofessionally. Many thanks go to Troy Moran the Championships co manager and the Course Managers, CraigBeacroft, Tony Bye and Heath Borg. A special mention to Wendy Breen and Lance Smith for their tireless effortsin ensuring the new Meet Manager program worked efficiently. This year was the first time CCCSA CrossCountry ran an AWD event. The event was a success.Thank you also to the student helpers from St Agnes Catholic High School who braved the unpredictableweather and helped in various tasks throughout the day.

NSWCCC Carnival Report

The Combined Catholic Colleges Diving Competition was held at SOPA Homebush on Friday 30thMarch 2007. Thirty four competitors from nearly 20 NSW Catholic Schools competed in both springboardand platform events. It was great to see an increase in numbers in the younger age groups and I hopethese competitors will continue so that all our age groups can enjoy strong competition in the future. It wasalso encouraging to see the number of platform competitors increase. I’m sure with consistent training,there will be more next year.

The results of the competition are posted below. 1st, 2nd and 3rd place getters in each event proceeded tothe NSW All Schools Championships at SOPA on April 27, 2007.

A great thank you must be given to the wonderful officials on the day without whom this competition couldnot run as smoothly. Thank you also to Kym Skerritt for her support of CCC Diving. CCC Carnival Report

The 2007 NSWCCC Selection Carnival was held over a night and day session at ValentinePark, Glenwood in Sydney. The success of such carnivals is entirely dependent upon theentrants who represented their dioccese/association with great distinction and pride culminatingin a fantastic two days. The NSW Combined Catholic Colleges Sports Association is extremelyfortunate to have a venue such as Valentine Park with brilliant facilities such as lighting andbeautifully manicured playing fields. This opportunity is only brought about by the generosity ofSoccer NSW who sponsors the selection carnival. On behalf of NSWCCC and all the diocesanrepresentatives a sincere thanks for your support. After a total of 30 matches involving 12teams, Southern Sydney were victorious defeating the Parramatta Diocese in the final whileWollongong defeated MCS to finish in 3rd place.

The NSWCCC Boys state team acquitted themselves strongly at the All SchoolsChampionships in 2007. The large amount of rain that Sydney received during late June madeit extremely difficult to prepare team effectively due to lack of facilities available due to theweather. Having a revised programme as a result of the weather NSWCCC had to play twogames in one day. In the first game against CHS (2) the boys drew 2 All while in the secondgame against CHS (1) they lost 0-2. Unfortunately the score line in the second game does notreflect the fact the boys were forced to play two games within hours of one another on a heavy,water logged pitch. All members of the team should be commended for the way theyrepresented the NSWCCC with great pride and distinction regardless of the obstacles theyfaced. Thank you to David Mamo, Michael Ronchetti and Vince Colagiuri for yourprofessionalism and diligence in preparing the team for the NSW All Schools Championship.The NSWCCC are extremely fortunate to have such dedicated teachersindividuals.

STATE KNOCKOUT FOOTBALL COMPETITION2007 ANNUAL REPORT

The Competition began back on the 25th

May where the first round was played. In the boys competitionthere were 25 teams in the Junior 7-10 age group and 32 for the Senior age group all playing for the right to becrowned the best Catholic school team in the State. Thank you to Mark De Vries and the regional convenors fortheir fantastic efforts in running the competition up to the Semi Final stage.

CCC Carnival Report

This year NSWCCC State Selection Trials were held at Valentine Park, Glenwood Park onTuesday 15th and Wednesday 16th of May. Players traveled from all over NSW representingtheir Diocese in a championship that demonstrated a high level of skill, commitment and aboveall sportsmanship. The tournament and selection trial ran very smoothly thanks largely to theefforts of NSWCCC Manager Aaron Poll, NSWCCC Coach Nicole Casey and the cooperativenature of Managers and Coaches alike. The tournament itself was intense and indicative of thewealth of Girls’ football talent in NSW Catholic Schools. The two randomly picked pools werevery eagerly contested with a high level of competition. Pool Winners Parramatta and Lismoreadvanced to the final whilst Pool Runners up Wollongong and CGSSSA battled it out in the 3rdvs 4th playoff. Both finals were evenly contested with Wollongong defeating CGSSSA to claim3rd place. The final saw two very well organised teams in Lismore and Parramatta play in avery exciting game. Parramatta won the final 2-0 in what was a great battle, with Lismorethrowing everything at Parramatta in the last few minutes by playing some very attackingfootball. Congratulations must be extended to Parramatta for winning the championship for thesecond year running and to Lismore for the spirited performances they showed over the two-day carnival. The selection of the NSWCCC squad was made difficult by the abundant talent ondisplay. Selectors were present at each game and entered into many discussions with coachesand managers concerning the individual qualities of each girl. Selectors all agree that the squadchosen has a great balance of talent, age and experience. A shadow squad was also chosen. Ioffer many thanks to selectors Aaron Poll and Nicole Casey for their involvement in theselection process and their continued support of girls’ football in catholic schools. I believe theNSWCCC girls’ football squad will make a very good account of themselves at the upcomingNSW All Schools tournament. Finally I would like to once again thank all those who contributedto such a great carnival this year including all the players, manager and coaches along with allthose involved in the carnival Aaron Poll, Nicole Casey, John Ossio and finally Kym Skerritt. Ieagerly look forward to next year’s carnival when we can again showcase and promote girlsfootball from Catholic schools.

The NSWCCC Open Girls' Football Team competed at the NSW All Schools FootballTournament in June 2007. The squad performed admirably in very testing conditions due to thetorrential downpours preceding the tournament. The girls contended with numerous last minutechanges of venues and water logged pitches to register a performance of which they could beproud. The squad showed great skill, determination and patience over the two day carnival andmust be commended for their efforts. The opening game of the carnival seen the girls draw 1-1with CHS 2 after a very late change of venue. The girls could consider themselves unlucky toonly come up with draw after dominating most of the game. The goal in particular was very wellcrafted with some slick build up work being rewarded with a fine team goal. The second day ofthe carnival seen the squad face the formidable CHS 1, side in the morning game. An evenlycontested game seen the girls lose 1-0 after conceding an unlucky goal. Efforts to find anequaliser were made more difficult with the atrocious conditions stopping shots at goals on thegoal line in deep puddles of water. The game was more like water polo game than a footballgame. The girls although be it a little wet and cold fronted up to their last game with CIS with thesame committed attitude. The game ended in a 0-0 draw with the girls once again dominatingthe game from start to finish. The whole squad and coaching staff should be proud of theirperformance under very stressful conditions and are to be commended for their dedication andcommitment under very trying conditions. Thanks and gratitude goes to Coach Nicole Caseyand Manager Aaron Poll for their time and effort with the squad this year and to Michael Sloanwho provided numerous photos of the two day carnival.

CCC Carnival Report

The Annual CCC golf tournament held at an unusually lush Camden Valley course once againproduced quality golf from some of the state's best players. The ever consistent Daniel Bringolfwon his first CCC title with a two shot victory in the stroke event firing one over par for the 27holes. Local boy Jace Kelly finished 2nd with a host of players including last year's AllschoolsChampion Dimi Papadatos gaining the coveted invitations to the Allschools championship heldat Muirfield. Others to join these three were Craig Boniface, Mitch Davis, Alex Katholos, SamNewbrun, Daniel Skelton, Luke Gaegler, Guy Nardo, Nick Simpson, Patrick Wangsa, LukeHumphries and John Yim. With thick rough and little run many of the girls stuggled in the heavyconditions. Manly player Carly Beck showed her class to win the girls' CCC title for the first time.Runner -up was the talented Gateshead student Aliza Huff. Other girls to qualify wereStephanie Solia, Jenna Fitzgerald, Teagan Dunn and Wagga youngster Chistina Appleton-Seymour. The Allschools Championship was held at Muirfield Golf Club in Sydney's HillsDistrict. As last year's Australian representative Danny An missed the CCC event due to theAustralian Amateur he was given a convener's invite to the event. Danny didn't disappoint asafter rounds of 69-70 he placed 2nd to the talented Alex Peade from Barrenjoey High School.The CCC team selected to travel to Eden includes Daniel Bringolf(3rd Allschools), SamNewbrun(5th Allschools), Dimi Papadatos(11th Allschools) and Craig Boniface(17th Allschools).Danny An and Holy Cross Ryde surprise packet John Yim(8th Allschools) will also travel toEden on special convener's invitations. The girls didn't fare as well at the AllschoolsChampionships. Carly Beck(5TH), Teagan Dunn(9th), Jenna Fitzgerald(11th) and AlizaHuff(14th) will represent NSW CCC at Eden Gardens in June. The relative youth of the CCCgirls' team augers well for the future with 3 players in year 9. The standout performance fromany player at the championships was from Marsden High School student Jessica Noh winningthe girls event by 13 strokes in an amazing 7 under par. Great golf!

NSW ALLSCHOOLS SELECTION TRIALS - EDEN GARDENS GOLF CLUB A rain-shortenedNSWALLSCHOOLS selection trial was held in bleak, wet and chilly conditions at Eden GardensGolf Club during the last week of term 2. Heavy rain made scoring difficult as the event wasreduced to 36 holes with the planned final day a washout. Again our girls struggled in the wetconditions with the longer hitters advantaged by the lack of run on the course. After a dismalday 1 the CCC girls performed much better on day 2 with the team improving by a massive 29shots. The damage was already done and with day 3 cancelled our girls were too far behind toforce their way into the Allschools team. Jenna Fitzgerald carded an 82, Carly Beck and AlizaHuff improved with 80's and Broulee junior Teagan Dunn fired a very solid round of 79. Thestrong CCC boys team fared much better with the ever consistent Daniel Bringolf(71-74) and


Danny An(74-69) placing in the top 4 sealing Allschools selection. This is Danny's thirdNSWALLSCHOOLS Team whilst Daniel will be representing NSW for the first time. CraigBoniface, Dimi Papadatos, Sam Newbrun and John Yim were only a couple of shots behind andthe final day's cancellation disappointingly dashed their chances of selection in the team totravel to Victoria in August. Once again the local hospitality was outstanding and despite thearctic conditions all students enjoyed themselves and to quote the Allschools convener "a badday at golf is better than a good day at school"- a comment agreed upon by all students at thepresentation. The School Sport Australia Championships were held at Mornington during thelast week of August. CCC' two representatives faired very well withy Danny An placing 5th andDaniel Bringolf 18th after the 36 holes strokeplay event. Both boys played exceptionally well inthe matchplay with Daniel winning 5 of 6 matches losing his only match 1 down. Danny An wentthrough undefeated and as a result was named in the Australian merit team again this time withthe honour of captain. Congratulations to both the boys.

HOCKEY CHAMPIONSHIPS - 2007 ANNUAL REPORT

Wagga Wagga hosted 45 teams at the 2007 NSWCCC Hockey Championships in fine weather onthe 10

thMay Thirteen grass fields, one sand based turf and one water based turf were used

over the two days of the Championships.

Day 1 commenced at 8.00am and play ceased at 5.30pm. Day 2 started at 8.30am and finished at 2.30pm.

The Carnival was played in seven divisions:U/16 Girls A and BU/16 BoysOpen Girls A and BOpen Boys A and B

Kildare Catholic College organised their PASS class to be assistants over the two days. Wagga Wagga CityCouncil from whom a grant of $550.00 was obtained which was used in publicising the event.

The withdrawl of five teams after the draw was completed created undue stress, hassle and hard work.

The Annual General Meeting was held on Thursday evening and Bev Smith was elected President.

The Championships showcased to the Riverina via the two television stations and the local papers the wealth ofhockey talent we have in the NSWCCC system.

In 2008, the Championships will be conducted at Armidale by O’Connor Catholic College.

Selections for the NSWCCC U/16's Hockey went well. The process went smoothly. Thank verymuch to Mark Stevens and Leif Bergerson who assisted. The venue was ideal.





Adrenaline Rush Youth Tournament - Canberra - 10th - 13th July. The Under 16 CCC boyswere 1 of 4 teams in the under 16 division - the others being ACT, Adrenaline Rush and FTO(Focus Training Outcomes). The format for the competition was that each team would play theother 3 teams twice with the top 2 teams playing in the final. Game 1 - CCC defeated ACT (1-0)Scorer:Lewis Shepherd Game 2 - CCC defeated FTO (2-1):Scorers: Kyle Eichorn and LewisShepherd Game 3 - CCC defeated Adrenaline Rush (5-0) Scorers: Alex Sutherland, ScottGovers, Chris Whitehall(2) and Kyle Eichorn Game 4 - ACT defeated CCC (2-1) Scorer: BrookHockley Game 5 - CCC defeated FTO (1-0) Scorer: Chris Whitehall Game 6 - Adrenaline Rushdefeated CCC (2-0) These results placed CCC in the final against ACT with ACT running outwinners 4-2. Over the course of the 4 days all 13 players demonstrated great skill, teamwork,tenacity and sportsmanship. The following players were identified by umpires as playing a leadrole in the teams' success - Kyle Eichorn, Cameron Frame, Daniel Sekulich, Lewis Shepherdand Josh Kirk. Well done to all players for being runners up in a strong competition.

allowed ACT to go through to play CHS in the final.

Overall, the boys placed well together as a team. They were very positive towards each other andencouraged one another. Everyone gave their best which is, at times a rarity, but very much appreciated bythe coach. We were very proud to be associated with this team.

On Monday 9th July the girls met at the National Hockey Centre for a training session at 2pm.Mardi Watts and Johanna Rowlands were named as Co-Captains. The tournament commencedon Tuesday, and since there were only four teams in the Under 16 division each team playedthe other teams twice. The girls went through undefeated, with ACT proving to be the toughestopposition. In the first round of matches the girls recorded three out of three wins (FTO 7-2,ACT 4-1 and Adrenaline Rush 4-1).However the match results were much closer in the secondround with two wins( FTO 2-1 and Adrenaline Rush 5-3) and a 2-2 draw with ACT. This placedthe girls first and ACT second. ACT had been using the tournament as trials for theirrepresentative side, so they had their best team against us for the final. After a very tight firsthalf, ACT went to the break leading 1-0. However, soon after half time CCC was able toequalize the score line through a goal from Mardi. With less than a minute to go, and havingconsulted the rules for a drawn final, Abbey scored the winning goal. The final result (2-1) was awell deserved win to the girls from NSW CCC. Throughout the week the girls played some veryentertaining hockey, linking up well together resulting in some excellent team goals. At all timesthey displayed good team spirit and were a credit to NSW CCC and their respective schools. Ateam of the tournament was selected from both age divisions (under 18 and under 16).Congratulations to Mardi Watts who was named in this team.

RUGBY LEAGUE - 2007 ANNUAL REPORT

2007 saw only minor changes to our Executive with Mark Falkenmire from McCarthy Catholic CollegeTamworth being elected as Country Vice President at our AGM in December 2006 and Barry Walsh fromSt.Dominic’s College, Kingswood fulfilling the role of City Vice President. A massive vote of thanks to all membersof the executive for their tireless work in overseeing the operations of the NSWCCC Rugby League in 2007.

This years Selection Trials were conducted for the first time at the Crest complex at Bass Hill on May 18th and19th. Apart from the threat of inclement weather and some initiation teething problems games went ahead as schedule

at what proved to be a very appropriate venue. Thanks to Bankstown Council, Mr Frank Barrett of the Bulldogs and theBankstown Sports and Social Club for their support with the Trials. Many thanks to Mr James Clancy from De La SalleCollege Revesby and the Principal and Staff for their assistance with the convening of this selection trial.

The squads selected for both the 15 Years and 18 Years National Championships promised to be competitive onesand included players from most associations.

The staff for 18 years squad were: Mr Nal Wijesekera (La Salle BankstownCoach), Mr Michael Lewis (La SalleBankstown Manager), Mr James Sutherland (Parramatta MaristTrainer) and Mr Steve Hooper (Red Bend CollegeForbesTour Manager).

The 15 Years Squad were under the care of Mr Mark Morrison (St Paul’s CollegeKempsey), Mr Peter Ross (PatricianBrothers CollegeBlacktown), Mr John McKnight (McCarthy College, Emu Plains) and Mr Phil Tobin (Tour Manager).

Both teams were competitive in their respective competitions, with the 15 Years team losing the final to CHS and theEighteens playing off for third and fourth against CAS after losing previous games narrowly to CHS and QLD.Congratulations to all players and staff on their selection and efforts throughout the duration of their respectivecampaigns. Congratulations must go to CHS for winning both age groups at the National Championships. As a result ofthe efforts at the Championships Luke Pickard (St Patrick’s CollegeSutherland), Chris Binge (St. John’sCollegeWoodlawn), Harry Siejka and Vaiupuna Tia Kilifi (St.Dominic’s College, Kingswood) and Alex McKinnon(St.Gregory’s College Campbelltown) were awarded places in the 15 Years Australian Merit Team. At 18 Years level,Jason Baitieri (Oakhill College), Daniel Mortimer (James Sheahan Catholic CollegeOrange), Greg Waddell(St.Dominic’s College, Kingswood) and Liam Foran (Marist College North Shore) were selected in the AustralianSchoolboys tour to New Zealand. Jason Baitieri was selected as one of the team leadership group and all playerscommitted themselves great aplomb in the undefeated three match tour. Jason was awarded the players player awardfor the Second Test.

With respect to association competitions, once again successful seasons were had in the Metropolitan CatholicSchools, Metropolitan Catholic Colleges, Christian Brothers Sporting Association, Arrive Alive Cup and Cochrane Cup14 Years Competitions. Marcellin College Randwick won the 13A, 13B, 14 and 15 years divisions in MCC, with MaristCollegeNorth Shore winning A and B Grade. In MCS, Patrician Brothers Blacktown won the First Grade, 14/1’s and13/1 divisions, St. Greg’s Campbelltown won the Second Grade, Year 10’s, 15/1’s and 15/4’s, and 14/3 divisions,Greystanes the 13/3’s and 15/3 divisions, Patrician Brothers Fairfield winning the Year 10 3 rd Division and 13’s 2 ndDivision and St.Dominic’s winning the 14’s 2 nd Division. In the Cochrane Cup Statewide 14 Years knockout, St.Joseph’s Catholic High School, Aberdeen defeated Mater Dei Catholic College, Wagga Wagga. All Saints College,Maitland were runners up in the inaugural 18 years Country Cup, conducted by the Country Rugby League. In theArrive Alive Cup, once again CCC were well represented in the final 16 teams, with Patrician Brothers CollegeBlacktown going down in the final to Matraville High School.

U/16’S RUGBY UNION - 2007 ANNUAL REPORT

The 2007 NSWCCC side assembled at the NSW Academy of Sport for a 2 day camp prior to theNSW All School Trials. Unfortunately due to weather conditions the game against ISA was cancelledwhich meant that the side’s game against NSW Country 16s was going to be the player’s only chanceto impress selectors.

The players played some fantastic rugby during that game pilling on a total score of 47-0. Some exciting freeflowing rugby was displayed and the NSWCCC side was defiantly the team that people were talking about.From that game we had several boys selected in the NSW All Schools possible verse probable game.

The NSWCCC Rugby Team had a very successful time at the NSW All SchoolsChampionships. Unfortunately the first round game against ISA was washed out so the playershad one less game to impress the selectors. After copping a heavy defeat by CHS II's last year,we bounced back this year losing a close contest 20-14 after leading them 14-0 early in thesecond half. Our second game against AICES saw us record a hard fought 28-5 victory. At thisstage we had a couple of players being considered for the NSW teams with Nick White (StGregory's Campbelltown) being selected in the NSW II's team that contested the AustralianChampionships in Canberra. The camp at Narrabeen again proved very popular and successfuland no doubt coming together as a team is vital to building the teamwork that is necessary forus to be competititive at the championships. One recommendation for 2008 would be to holdthe camp in the lead up to the ISA fixture, coming together on the Friday and then having atraining session on the Thursday night prior to the following weeks games. This would allow usto have a good solid, physical session on the Friday prior to the ISA game on the Sunday.Presently coming together on the Thursday with a game on the Friday doesn't allow us to havesuch a physical session. The exising camp also clashes with MCS Rugby League finals and thisyear meant these players didn't get to camp until our training session was over (they played afinal) and then they had to back up the next day and play the trial against CHS (there wereabout six players affected). Shifting the camp forward however may have an impact on thecountry players and where and with who (could be billeted out by other players) they would staywhile the championships are on. My thanks are extended to both Kym Skerritt and Andy Martinfor their support duing the championships. Knowing that Andy is resigning as CCC Convener Iwould especially like to thank him for his tireless efforts in gaining for the CCC, the recognitionfor rugby that it deserves. I have no doubt that CCC Rugby is so much stronger as a result ofhis efforts over the years and am so glad that in his final year, the team was able to give him asuccessful send off with strong performances at the championships.Steve Mitchell/Nick Lah

This year's carnival was held at Blacktown Olympic Park on the 13th-14th September 2007,NSWCCC competed against ACT and CHS. The first day of competion we played ACT andwere defeated.The second game against CHS the score was a loss 6-3 but the boys had a verygood game. Day 2 started with NSWCCC playing ACT, unfortuantley the boys were out classedin this game.Tim Porter took some very nice cathces in the out field. Our pitchers RyanO'Driscoll,Tyson Bonfeild,Patrick Shipp and Grant Kerrigan tried to contain the opposition but itwas going to be very difficult task. Ben Green as catcher, did well leading the team by example.The boys were a very young side this year and with more experience on our side some of theseboys will be be our future for catholic schools. Some players had some difficultty in coping withthe standard of play shown by the older and more experienced boys from the other teams. Wewould like to thank all the parents for supporting the boys for the last two days.

CCC Carnival Report

NSWCCC Softball selection carnival was held at Campbelltown Softball Association on the 26thFeb 2007 for both the boys and girls. We would like to express our gratitude to theCampbelltown Softball Association and their canteen staff for accomadating our carnival at thevery last moment due to the Penrith Association grounds being closed because of very badweather. I also would like to thank all the parents, coaches, managers of all the teams for theco-operation and patience due to the circumstances. It proved to us if we all pull together ourcarnival can still go ahead as planned. Thank you to all the umpires, SMA Carolyn Knight,selectors Sue Pobjie, Samantha Fallick and Shaun Bostock. We would also like to welcome ournew Association SCCCA. Congratulate once again to Carol Deegan as coach of the girls team.The carnival displayed excellent skills and teamwork by the girls. The final results had to go firstpast the post due to the delayed start. This yea'r winners were Broken Bay. At the conclusion ofthe carnival the NSW CCC team was chosen.

SWIMMING 2007 - ANNUAL REPORT

The 2007 NSWCCC Swimming Championships were held on Friday 30th

of March at the SydneyAquatic Centre. For the first time we implemented the new selection criteria for the carnival. It was goodto see that we had a stronger field for all races and that the standard of competition had improved from the previousyear.

As usual, each Diocese entered very strong teams. It was evident that this year would prove to be as competitive asever. With each race consisting of the fastest Diocesan competitor in every event and their two fastest in the 50freestyle, the remaining lanes were filled with the next fastest times from any athlete in the state. This did allow a fullcomplement of swimmers in extremely competitive heats.

The carnival began well and looked to be running smoothly. A routine check of the timeline during the course of theday however, painted a completely different picture. It suggested that we were running extremely behind time andthat an alternate plan of action was required. While looking at the alternatives, it was clear that some of the eventswould need to be completed in the diving pool lanes, which were being used as the warm down pool. The nextavailable race was therefore announced to be re-allocated, as were a whole list to follow. Fortunately, due to thehelp of the computer technicians, the error was identified and the carnival was completed as normal. I would like tothank the staff and officials who helped in the changing of the normal program. In particular, I would like to thankKym Skerritt, Helen Wood and team, plus all of the Diocesan representatives for their assistance before, during andafter the event in compiling their teams and assisting in the coordination of the CCC team for All Schools.

The standard of competition was very high and there were a number of significant performances

NSWCCC trials were held in Wollongong on Tuesday March 13th on a day that looked as if rainwould interrupt play. However the rain stayed away till all matches were finished and the team wasselected. Approximately 25 girls and 30 boys attended the trials to select 8 boys and 8 girls torepresent NSWCCC at the NSW All Schools trials. Sportmanship and behaviour of all studentswas excellent and made the job of the referree easy for the day. The team selected came frommost parts of NSW which indicates that the trials are becoming more well known and schools areencouraging students to attend. A special thank you to the many parents who provided transport toWollongong and in some cases stayed the night before to ensure thier son/ duaghter was on time.The professional coaches at Beaton Park were extremely cooperative in allowing us more courtsand working their coaching and school committments around the event. Tennis Wollongong whoprovided the control room and microphones continue to support this event and are to be thanked.The format used for the trials was the same as stduents would face at NSW All Schools later in themonth. This format involves round robin in the morning with the top 2 from each pool progressingto the afternoon round robin where the pools are redrawn according to the mornings results. Thetop 2 players from each ofthe 4 afternoon pools were selected in the team. This is the sameprocedure used to select the All Schhols team and allows players to see what they face later in themonth.

The NSW All Schools Carnival was held on Tuesday 27th and Wednesday 28th March atWollongong.The competition this year was of a very high standard but no real behaviour problemsoccurred. All NSWCCC members were extremely well bevaved and represented themselves andtheir schools with distinction. Six of our boys and 5 girls made it through to the afternoon pools toselect the team. NSWCHS won both the boys and girls team event with NSWCCC being 2nd in thegirls and 3rd in the boys. However in the boys only a few sets separated the 3 teams, indicatingthe closeness of the competition. Two girls and one boy were selected in the NSW All Schoolsteam for Canberra in May to contest the Pizzey Cup. For James and Peta this is their 2nd year inthe team and Bernadette makes the team on her first attempt- well done to all 3 and the best


wishes for Canberra.The NSW All Schools Team won the Pizzey Cup and James McKee wasselected in the Australian merit team after reaching the semi finals of the individual event. Petawon the consolation singles event.

CCC Carnival Report

On the 19th

September this over fifty teams from across Australia converged on Coffs Harbour’s InternationalStadium for the X-Blades under 18 National Touch Football Championships. NSW Combined catholic Colleges wererepresented in two teams, Under 18 Boys and Under 18 Girls.

The under 18 boys began their campaign in sensational form. Led by Australian youth squad member CameronBreust, Captains Matthew Winchester and Ben MacKenzie and 4 year NSWCCC Veteran Luke Eisenhuth the boyscrushed South Australia 19-1 in what was an outstanding display of team touch.

The boys then reached what would be their biggest hurdle of the championship. Their second round match wasagainst 2006 champions Sydney Mets. The boys played strongly in the first half, but some uncharacteristic errorsled to the strong Mets outfit running away with a convincing 9-3 victory.

Round three saw NSW CCC play the Brisbane City Cobras outfit. In a tough and torrid affair the boys again wentdown in a close 7-5 loss. Reeling from two losses, the NSW boys hard to regain composure if they were to make thefinal series. Showing true CCC spirit and responding to Coach Roberts’ inspiring words of wisdom the boys regainedthe confidence showed I round one and easily accounted for the fancied South Queensland outfit 8-4, leaving uswith a remote chance of a finals birth.

Friday’s round saw the CCC boys tackle school rivals CIS. To the credit of the Independents Schools side this gameturned out to be a much tougher affair than first thought. After leading 6-1 at half time the CCC boys escaped with atough 8-6 win setting up a quarter finals showdown.

Due to our two losses in the pool games CCC drew the toughest of the four quarter finals. Again we were to play theSydney Mets who once again proved far to classy running away with a convincing 11-2 victory and ultimatelysecuring their second consecutive National under 18 Championship Title beating QSST in the final. This loss left asomewhat bitter taste in the mouth of many passionate CCC players and officials as the majority of the Met’s line-upare current NSW Catholic School Students.

All players should be congratulated on the efforts over the four day tournament. Our leading try scorers for thechampionships were Allan Eisenhuth (11), Cameron Breust (9) and Sam Gilbert (6). Special mention must alsogo the Team MVP Cameron Breust and NSW “Blues” recipients Matthew Winchester and Luke Eisenhuth.Next year will be another exciting one for CCC touch, with a number of talented up and coming players to mix inwith the current experienced squad members. The Open training Camp in July was an outstanding success thisyear in bringing the sides together and fine tuning many of our areas. With this camp and other fantastic ideas onthe agenda 2008 will surely be a year to look forward to. Special thanks to the Open boys coach Steven Robertsand NSW CCC Touch Convener Mr. John Hassett for all their hard work and insight in 2007.

This years selection trials were held on Wednesday, 6th June at Jubilee Park, Wagga Wagga.The semi finals were contested between MCC vs MCS, and Wagga Wagga vs Armidale. MCCand Wagga Wagga met in the decider with Wagga Wagga being too strong on the day. Playerof the tournament: Eden Price.

The NSW All Schools Selections was held at the Narrabeen Academy of Sport on the 21st-22nd of July.

The CCC boys were undefeated in the pool rounds against CHS and CIS. In a tightly contestedfinal, the NSWCCC held a 2-1 lead for majority of the half but found themselves down 4-2 at thebreak.

The boys regrouped to dominate the second half getting the scores to 4 all. NSWCCC ended upgoing down 5-4 but are to be commended on how they gelled as a team, how they put in theeffort and played an exciting brand of football. The CCC carnival was a success with a very cold but sunny day with many high quality playersready to demonstrate their skills on the Touch fields. With very close scores there was not alotseparating the top 7 teams. With CGSSSA, Broken Bay, Parramatta and Wagga in the semifinal. Parramatta scored in the final seconds to secure the win against CGSSSA in the final 4-3.

Unfortunately, this year there was a very poor turn out for the U16's boys NSWCCC selectiontrials. Only one full team entered with a couple of indivdual entries. In order to continue toimprove on our current success of being the best representative school team in NSW at Openslevel we need to ensure we have the talent at the grass roots level. The highlight waswelcoming our first trialist from outside the "normal" Volleyball areas. Glen Pritchard came allthe way from Wagga Wagga and is now going forward to the NSW All Schools Trials. Hopefullythis is the start of more players coming from country areas to trial. Good luck to the four playerswho will represent us this year at the NSW All Schools trials




Due to the limited number of students trialling this year which meant that all players were ableto stay for the whole day and gain valuable knowledge and experience of the game at this levelwhich benefitted all players. The prospect of NSWCCC retaining the Tri Series is an achievable one. This years NSWCCCOpen Boys Selection Trial revealed that there is still a huge depth of volleyball talent in catholicschools across NSW with new schools having players selected into this years team and makingthe selection process a difficult one. Thank you to Steve Rogers and Amanda Gigliotti for theirassistance in the selection trial process.




This years team combined valuable playing experience and raw talent as we looked to retainthe Tri Series trophy we won in 2006. Daniel Gauci as the captain and outside hitter, lead fromthe front throughout all the games and was consequently named in the Merit NSW All SchoolsOpen Team. In the first game we beat CIS 3 -1 with some solid passing and hitting from SamLeneham and Anthony Gigliotti and setting by Joshua Murphy. Unfortunately, this year was notmeant to be back to back wins for NSWCCC. NSWCHS proved far too strong for usconvincingly beating us 3-1. However, even defeat the new comers and relatively inexperiencedSimon Georges and George Hadchiti should be commended on the maturity and skill level theydisplayed throughout.

First of all a BIG thank you to Bob Cooper. Not only did we work tirelessly throughout the daywith Stephanie Lalic to select the NSWCCC Girls Open Volleyball Team he provided majorassistance in the lead up to the selection trials in preparing the venue and assisting with thesmooth running of the day. The standard of players coming to the selection trials continues toincrease which is great for the competitveness of NSWCCC Girls Open Volleyball. This yearhopefully we can go one better and win the Tri Series in June. Congratulations again to theselected players and thank you to all those who assisted in the selection process.




Congratulations to our Open Girls Volleyball team on some excellent play at the Tri-Seriescompetition held at Olympic Park on Saturday 9th June. NSWCCC selected a strong team whoachieved a 3-0 win against the Combined Independent Schools team. Excellent performancesby Sarah Gleeson, Kate Orme, Maryanne Rogers and Sihan Kazzi set a great platform withsome powerful blocking, great passing and good serving by all team members giving our CCCteam a convincing win. Our team was challenged by the cohesion and significant skillsdemonstrated by the CHS team. Our setters, Zoe and Annabel Yum did an excellent job with avariety of passes enabling powerful outside hitting by Sarah Gleeson, Maddie Mullane andAlana Hassett. Our centre blockers Nicole Styles and Emily Mattick did a great job in shuttingdown the CHS attack as well as hitting some excellent balls through the centre. Special mentionmust be made of Kate Orme who came on as Libero to improve the passing and defense of oursquad. She was very mobile and achieved some excellent passes which kept us in the match.We must congratulate the CHS team on their 3 – 1 win but gain confidence in having taken aset off this strong team with some excellent all round play. Congratulations to Sarah Gleeson onbeing named in the All Start Six which was announced on completion of the tournament. Aspecial thank you to Stefanie Lalic who was assistant coach and offered her time andconsiderable expertise in the management of this team.

CCC First performed well during the All Schools tournament and achieved some promisingresults. Following training during the holiday period the team was overwhelmed 4-12 by a verystrong CHS team but played with cohesion. However against CIS, the CCC Firsts after beingbehind 2-5 at halftime showed determination and character to defeat CIS by 10-9 in a mostexciting game. This was in fact the first time CCC had beaten the CIS team. Our seconds werea development squad containing some very young but promising players. They played withgreat courage throughout the day against physically stronger and more skilful players. They canbe proud of their efforts on the day and will be the better for the experience. Matt Saville, EliDeloraine and Patrick Falson were strong performers for CCC. They were rewarded for the playwith selection into the NSW All Schools team. For Matt Saville this was his second year beingselected into this team. Congratulations go to the coaching staff of Geoff Smith and WayneNortham who provided great support throughout the day. With only a small squad of boys tochoose from the results achieved by the squad were very satisfactory.

With probably the strongest squads we have been able to select the CCC girls firsts andseconds performed very well at the All Schools tournament. The Firsts were defeated by onegoal in both games against CHS and CIS. In both matches we conceded early leads to ouropposition. The CCC girls played with character and determination to work themselves backinto their games. However they were unable to make up the leads conceded and learnt thelesson about starting games fully focussed. Nicolle Saville was outstanding on the day andprobably the MVP of the tournament. She along with Alicia Brightwell, Annabelle Carter andgoalkeeper Serena Reid were selected in the NSW All Schools team. Our Seconds showed lotsof potential and finished the day with a win over the CIS Seconds. Many of these players willmove up into the Firsts next year and showed the ability to play at this level. Our coaches andmanagers, Yvette Higgins and Zoe Pearcy were outstanding. My thanks goes to them for all thework they put in. This was shown with the spirit displayed by the girls throughout the day.Congratulations to all players for their efforts on the day and at all training sessions.
