Consider these building blocks of a solid estate plan.
JOINT OWNERSHIP PLANNING—When an asset is held in joint
names as “joint tenants with right of survivorship” or as “tenants by the
entirety” (husband and wife), upon the death of a named joint tenant, the
asset passes to the survivor free of probate and without regard to what your
will or trust might say.
BENEFICIARY DESIGNATION AGREEMENTS—Certain
written agreements or contracts are authorized by law to transfer an asset at
death with a “beneficiary designation.” This includes “payable on death”
designations at financial institutions or beneficiary designations in IRAs,
other retirement accounts, life insurance policies, etc. The asset transfers
at the owner’s death (free of probate) to the named beneficiary(ies).
LIVING TRUST—A living trust is a private agreement that provides
for asset management and avoids probate of assets titled in the trust’s name.
Assets not transferred to a trust are usually controlled by a will. A trust
usually contains the estate distribution plan and provides “lifetime” direction
and protection for assets if incapacity occurs.
WILL—A will takes effect on death and directs how assets you own are
distributed. A will must be probated, requires public scrutiny, and must meet
formal requirements of state law. Assets not passing through joint ownership
planning, beneficiary designation agreements, or a trust usually pass by will
through probate.
DURABLE POWER OF ATTORNEY-FINANCIAL—A durable
power of attorney usually takes effect if you can no longer handle your
financial affairs because of illness, sickness, or incompetence. Without this
document, family or friends may have to visit court, sometimes requiring
adversarial litigation, just to help you.
DURABLE POWER OF ATTORNEY—HEALTH AND PERSONAL CARE—Individuals often appoint a different person
to help with personal matters, such as health care, medical attention, or
personal care. This document empowers someone to help you with these
vital matters.
LIVING WILL—A living will states that if you have an incurable injury,
illness, or disease certified terminal and applying life-sustaining procedures
only prolongs your death, you don’t want to be kept alive at great expense.
There are many factors to prayerfully consider.
This article does not constitute legal or financial advice and is not a substitute for
obtaining professional counsel.

SUPERINTENDENT
t our recent MinistrieSummit we
were reminded that there are
only two things that live for-
ever: the souls of men and the
Word of God. Many of you may be weary
of my emphasis on the importance of
ministers financial planning for retire-
ment. Every church board and congrega-
tion should be very diligent with regard
to this matter. Many of our pastors are
uncomfortable asking for a raise or
request financial remuneration unless
offered by the church. As a result, such
concerns as health care insurance, retire-
ment benefits, cost of living increases, etc.
may go unevaluated for years at a time.
Many churches understand their responsi-
bility toward their leadership, but others
are negligent in their duties to care for
their care giver. The Apostle Paul’s
instruction to Timothy is appropriate to
consider, “The elders who direct the
affairs of the church well are worthy of
double honor, especially those whose
work is in preaching and teaching” (I
Timothy 5:17). Likewise, evangelists and
missionaries should be treated generously
and according to the ability of each
church where ministry occurs. The words
of our Lord are fitting that state, “Give
and it shall be given to you . . .” (Luke
6:38). The key to your ministers financial
tomorrow may rest with you. I am confi-
dent each church will do their best as
unto the Lord.
Our children and grandchildren are our
greatest asset! The little one in the picture
(my granddaughter) was born May 12,
2005 at 11:00 AM. Who can tell what
potential may be wrapped up in this little
person? She may be a great musician,
speaker, minister, missionary, or perhaps
the first female President of the United
States. The keys to tomorrow can only be
invested when careful thought is given to
how she will be treated, the opportunities
that will be offered, and the choices she
makes to pursue the will of God for her life.
I never cease to be amazed that some
believers are willing to forfeit their
testimony to the lost and sacrifice the
souls of their children by creating division
within the body of Christ for the sake of
personal preferences and non-critical
issues. The key to tomorrow is not only
financial planning and wise investments
of funds, but investing in Christ like
character and a godly lifestyle. The keys
to tomorrow are held in our hands.
What will we do with those keys?

Paul E. Grabill
[email protected] It was not until J. Clayton Sheridan came to our church ten years ago with the A/G-
sponsored will-planning clinic that I realized how spiritual the matter of wills truly is.
“Keys to Tomorrow” is the name of the seminar, but it could also be called,
“Responsibilities of Today.”
I then came to realize that just as I must decide today what I’m preaching on this
Sunday, when the car is going to be worked on, where we are going on vacation, and
where I am going to stay at General Council, how much more important it is that I
decide who would raise our children in the event of Arline’s and my death and how
whatever net worth we have acquired would be distributed.
At its core, it’s a spiritual stewardship decision.
Sure, we need to be laying up as much treasure as possible in heaven, but we will all
leave behind some degree of treasure on earth, whether material goods or relationships.
I believe this same principle applies to living wills.
Scripture tells us that we are stewards of our own bodies, and it helps our family when
we make it explicit how, informed by the Word and our conscience, we wish our body to
be treated in the event of severe incapacity.
Remembering that we are not our own (no, not even our bodies), what we leave behind
is still God’s. That is one reason why the ancient Christians took such care of the physical
body, even after death. They spent untold hours carving out the catacombs for the remains
of their loved ones (when the Romans practiced cremation). Your loved ones need to know
your wishes. Besides, who do we want to make the decision regarding God’s property? The
courts or us?
I think you’ll agree we should. I believe this, too, is part of our reasonable service.

Orchard SpringsConstruction In north Adams County, retired senior citizens lead the project to build a church. Even the engineering consultant for theproject, Vince Johnson, fromShrewsbury Assembly of God, isretired, but has donated hundredsof hours in the planning of thisproject. Other retired tradesmenhave traveled hundreds of miles intheir recreational vehicles to arrivein Aspers on divine appointment. A carpenter from Ohio, anotherone from Maine, an electricianfrom Louisiana, another one fromFlorida and others park on thechurch site. Plans have been drawn, materials have been purchased, and the volunteers are busy day in and day out with construction. The local church volunteers havecome along side the senior citizensand together they build. It isincredible to see the OrchardSprings Fellowship church going up with volunteers from AdamsCounty, Cumberland County andnumerous places from around theUnited States.
Come on out to 2140 Carlisle Roadin Aspers to see the volunteerrecreational vehicles all lined up in the church parking lot. Thesesenior citizens only return homeseveral times a year to see theirfamilies. When the church is completed here in Aspers they will move on to another site tobless another congregation. A couple from Orchard SpringsFellowship, Larry and KathySwartz, have been so inspired byRV Maps that they have becomemembers of RV Maps NationalMinistry, bought a motor vehicle, and will move on to a new siteonce the church building is com-pleted. To God be the glory!

Children, like adults have that selfish sinful nature. Is it any wonder that some of the
first words we hear from preschoolers are mine, mine, and mine. We need to teach and
train children to be givers. Boys and Girls Missionary Crusade (BGMC) does just
that. Every month churches are given true life mission’s adventures, both foreign and
home mission stories. Children have opportunities to recognize the needs of others
and respond to that need and become givers.
BGMC provides funds that meet a great number of needs; everything from beds for
orphanages, to clothes, food and even radio towers. If you would like help in training
children to have a heart for missions, contact Pastor Ray Zimmerman, District
BGMC Coordinator at [email protected] or call 724-658-5611.

YOUTH ALIVE
WELL, AS THE SAYING GOES, “All good things must come to an end.”The end for us, is the end of the school year. Never before in my life did I believe that I would be lamenting the end of a school year, but believe it or not here Iam doing just that. The reason for this obscure lamentation is because we had such a greatyear reaching students for Christ!
Through the ministry of the Seven Project we were able to speak to over 18,000 students in24 assemblies across the Penn-Del district. Many of those students would come back at nightand hear the gospel presented to them in a very clear, practical way. At the end of that pres-entation we saw teenagers get up out of their seats and come forward to accept Christ. Itwas an incredible sight to see them come forward in droves of 200–400 at a time! The finalcount on students who accepted Christ out of public school systems is well over 1,300! I cannot give enough thanks to God for the harvest He brought in and to you who were faithfulto support this ministry and to buy in to the vision of reaching students. We are now meet-ing with youth pastors from all over the District who are now gearing up to bring the SevenProject to their schools and we anticipate even greater results for the 2005–2006 school year.Thank you for making this possible.
One of the reason why our Seven Project outreaches were so successful was because of someof the awesome demonstrations that we did. Perhaps the most dynamic was our skateboarddemos. In our skateboard demonstrations, we pull our skaters behind a four wheeler quadand send them careening over a ramp so they can do some of their awesome stunts. Thiswas a crowd favorite with many of the students, whether they were in to skateboarding ornot. We would like to bring that same demo to your church this summer and help you reachthe students in your area. If you would be interested in booking the Seven Project give PaulKirschbaum a call @ 717.795.5921. this demo can be done inside or outside (if pavement issmooth) and is a great addition to your summer outreach!
We are now setting up Seven Project outreaches for the Fall! If you would like to host onefor your local schools we would love to hear from you. Act now, because slots are filling upfast. If you would like more information check out our website www.thesevenproject.org.You can also go to www.yausa.com and click on the Seven Project page which will have thedownloadable community planner guide. This is the most comprehensive manual there is for giving you a step by step approach for campus outreaches. If you need more informationsend me an email with your request to [email protected].

ome arrive frightened and frustrated; others undernourished and neglected.
They have been removed from home because of derelict parents, or have
suffered the heartbreak of a home shattered by divorce, or have tragically lost
one or both parents.
These are the children who come to Hillcrest Children’s Home. It takes time,
good care, and warm Christian love to erase the effects of these tragic experiences.
The majority of referrals come from pastors, friends of Hillcrest, and relatives of
hurting children. Boys and girls come to Hillcrest having experienced abuse, neglect,
abandonment, or the divorce or death of their parents. The caring environment at
Hillcrest is designed to demonstrate love to these broken children.
Children, grouped by age and gender, are provided a homelike atmosphere with
balanced diets, proper clothing, and medical and dental checkups to ensure their
physical well-being. Daily devotions, chapel services, and regular church attendance
minister to their spiritual needs._____________________________________________________________________

On May 20, 2005, David Crosby Jr., Senior Pastor of Pocono
Community Church (PCC), was honored, along with representatives
from eighty other congregations, at the 2005 Purpose Driven Church
conference in Lake Forest, California. Saddleback Community Church,
which hosted the conference, recognizes congregations like PCC for
having successfully integrated the principles of the Purpose Driven
Church model of ministry.
“Purpose Driven has made a huge difference,” says Crosby. “I like it
because it’s not just a program that you just kind of plug and play. It is
really a philosophy of ministry, which is built on biblical principles that
transcend time and culture. . . . It gives us focus not just to grow a crowd,
but to grow people’s lives.” Crosby first encountered the highly successful
model in 1996 as a seminarian at the Assemblies of God Theological
Seminary, having read The Purpose Driven Church, authored by Rick
Warren, the senior pastor of Saddleback Community Church.
Borne of a prayer meeting, PCC held its first Sunday service Christmas Day 2002.
Today, two and a half years later, Sunday morning attendance averages 550 individuals.
“I just never imagined that I’d ever be able to be a part of something like this. . . .
It’s very humbling to see what God does every weekend,” says Crosby. On Easter 2005,
over 700 worshippers filled the auditorium at Pocono Mountain West High School,
the location where the church holds its services. In the last two years, the church has
witnessed close to 400 salvations and is finalizing plans to purchase a 50-acre tract of
land for its first ministry facility.

s of April 30, 2005, the Loan Fund had 87 outstanding loans totaling over $19.7 million. Total deposits in the Fundamounted to $41.99 million. Because of God’s blessing and the loyalty of many investors throughout its years of
operation, the Fund has provided financing to enable many District churches to open new chapters in theirexciting stories. The Fund recently approved a loan in the amount
of $410,000.00 for Christian Life Church to purchase land on which to build aworship facility in Harleysville, Montgomery County, PA. Pastored by Rich FogelJr., Christian Life Church has been meeting in a private high school for two years.Quoting Pastor Fogel in a recent letter addressed to the Loan Fund Committee,“I know it is time for us to begin to move toward our own worship facility. Ifeel this will better enable this church to reach its full potential in this excitingcommunity. . . . we have found a piece of land that I believe will meet ourneeds, provide good exposure, and can be bought at a good price, especially inthis expensive area. With your help, we can acquire it and open a new chapterin this church’s exciting story.” If you want to help churches throughout our District“open a new chapter,” there’s no better way than the Penn-Del Loan Fund.
Investing in the Loan Fund is easy. If you’d like to know more, contact us today for information and a prospectus.
